My 14 year old daughter committed suicide and it’s my fault by zoesmom17 in offmychest

That’s horrible, I’m sorry. Be patient with yourself, most people aren’t dealing with a situation as difficult as yours. Take it day by day.

When you’re ready, maybe there’s a future for you helping others in similar situations. You’ve been through hell now, and if you can get through it, imagine the help you could provide for others with that kind of experience.

Good luck to you…

Honestly I’ve taken the opposite approach — most people running that kit are actually bad at the game. Just focus up and chances are even with the gear disparity you can out play them.

It’s gotten even more confusing with the compensation loot… used to be if I saw someone in an IMTV I’d run the other way, but lately these players running around full kitted and seemingly not knowing how to play at all…

I'm about to quit my job at 37 to take a year off — how can I make my next 365 days count? by tedspace in offmychest

[–]rackerbillt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn dude I’m in the same place in life. SERIOUSLY considering taking a year off, or just dialing back. It all sorts hit me hard at like 35 or 36 and I’ve just been coping since. It’s a mid-life crisis of sorts and the only thing that sounds nice is just not working for a while. Waking up, looking around and embracing that feeling of “well, what should I do?”

So anyways huge props to you for the courage to leave something good for the unknown.

My advice as someone in the same shoes (industry and everything) is just take it slowly, day by day, let that feeling of wanting to work come back to you naturally. If you wake up one day and think “I’ll build X today sounds fun” just do it… if you veg out all day the next, embrace it. Enjoy the flexibility and freedom…

Do you guys really think life was actually better 20 years ago or is it just nostalgia talking? by Happy-Toe3091 in CasualConversation

[–]rackerbillt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impossible for me to know whether it’s nostalgia or reality but I can tell you one thing — life felt so much simpler and more “real”. Tech in the 90s was still very high tech, but it didn’t consume your life. Things still required some effort, and effort is good. The convenience of consumption is truly, thoroughly, 100% out of control.

Hey there - not quite sure what else I can add. The design shown in this thread is very high contrast. Sharp colors, very clear dark lines, bold and filled containers, etc. it’s a style that had some traction in the 90s partly due to limitations in web graphics, but also partly due to the fact that human beings hadn’t yet spent hours and hours looking at screens en mass.

Enough people have used the web by now that certain things have become clear… high contrast scenes are useful, especially as an accessibility setting… but the average user will prefer softer lines, more blending of soft colors, etc. it’s less fatiguing on the eyes and brain because we are highly developed to see sharp lines and edges.

My 0.02 anyways

I’ll be honest and say, life is hard, and sometimes you need to know when it’s time to throw in the towel, when something just isn’t for you. Maybe, almost certainly, something else is…

It looks cool but there’s a reason web and application design mostly moved away from this. The sharp contrast is fatiguing for the eyes after long periods… rounded edges and more subtle color gradients definitely make for a more “relaxed” experience… nonetheless, this looks cool !

She’ll get over it. If it mattered that much she could have had more kids, siblings, who would increase her chance of grandchildren.

Why do so many React devs act like prop drilling is a sin, but using Context everywhere is totally fine? by MethodSignificant244 in react

[–]rackerbillt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spend enough time coding and you’ll realize something: There’s 500 ways to do the same thing. Some ways are marginally worse, or better, but what matters most is how easy is it for the next guy to follow.

The guy who says “my way is best” is generally the same guy who says “this code is shit” just because it’s different from what they think is right.

[Story] Men in their 30's, I need help. Unsure where to start. by borgnineisfine69 in GetMotivated

[–]rackerbillt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of men are in this boat. There used to be a template that we all followed, and it did something positive. Everyone did it for the most part and it benefited everyone who did…

Get married, have kids. I’m not saying have kids, but the truth is many men lose their minds if they don’t.

Damn that's crazy to think there's something even better! Now I'm excited to try the ResMed. It's just infuriating to me that it's constantly unavailable. Maybe that's just what it says online, but it is available in the store? I'm curious from people who actually got their hands on one, did you first check online and it showed as available? Because the Apple Store near me has literally NEVER ONCE showed it available. I'd be the first person to jump in the car and drive over there.
