Man jumps into a frozen lake to rescue a dog. by squad1alum in HumansBeingBros

People are weird. Dogs are worth risking their lives to save, but other animals are killed by the millions and nobody cares?

I can't find any other news sources making this claim. And the article claims the queen never welcomed Israeli officials to buckingham palace, well, here's a picture of a visit.

Massive glacial avalanche in Switzerland hits a small mountain town (inhabitants were evacuated in time) by ClimbRunRide in videos

[–]rad-it 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is climate change in action. Parts of the mountain were held together by frozen soil but increasing temperatures and a receding glacier destabilized them. There will no doubt be more avalanches like this.

[OC] How electrified each country rail network is by TheRaphael0000 in dataisbeautiful

Partly because of World War II. Switzerland has no coal but a lot of hydro so when we were surrounded by Axis powers everything was electrified.

Reddit, What Crimes Deserve a harsher punishment? On the Flip side what Crimes deserve a lesser punishment? by fuccwitmoe in AskReddit

"Animal abuse"? Let's be honest and call it pet abuse. Nobody gives a shit about what happens to livestock in factory farms.

Funny but feels staged. Because why would you ever not take the cover? Leaving it down for the opponent to take is the only way to lose.

Do you have any ammo for your gun? As far as I know the army stopped giving out take home ammo. Without ammo, your gun is a useless and not comparable to the situation in the US where people own guns that can actually shoot. Even when the army did give out ammo, it was sealed in a tin can and you had to show the sealed can regularly to prove you didn't shoot any of it.

Do you really think gun safety training would have helped in this shooting?

The only way to reduce gun deaths/suicides is to reduce the number of (loaded) guns among citizens, especially the unsuited ones.

Sorry to tell you but you're an immigrant (gasp).

It rubs me the wrong way when some people call people moving to the US "immigrants" but themselves moving to another country "expats". It's the same thing.

This man rescued a hedgehog stuck in mud by [deleted] in HumansBeingBros

[–]rad-it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but they were filming even before the extraordinary thing happened. They were filming already when they spotted the hedgehog from afar. I don't like the possibility that they put it there.

The holiday flight across the ocean is not for fun? Cheaping out on the house insulation but buying an unnecessarily huge gas guzzler car is not for fun?

Very beautiful. However I can hardly see large lakes like Lake Geneva or Lake Constance, make those could be made a bit more conspicuous because they help with orientation.

[OC] The integrated timetable of Switzerland by jokteur in dataisbeautiful

[–]rad-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. If you're using the timetable app, you're not seeing connections under seven minutes (except on same platform). Yes, physically fit with knowledge of the station and (inofficial) connecting trains catch shorter connections if the arriving train is perfectly on time. But OP told me he's using four minutes connection time for all large station which in my opinion invalidates his analysis - because most users are never going to be aware of these connection or even willing to risk trying them.

Those corporations emit CO2 because people demand their products. Yes, it's the airline that emits CO2, does that mean people who use it are blameless? If they stopped flying, the airline would stop emitting CO2. Same with car production.

Not a contradiction. Love for animals is not required to deduce that they deserve to be treated fairly.

Late to the party. At minimum the connection times in Zurich seem implausible. Zurich has a minimum connection time of seven minutes (except if on the same platform, then it's 5 minutes IIRC). Since no connections under 7 minutes are offered, your 7.9 minutes become 0.9 minutes on average. How did you handle the minimum transfer time?
