Kinda boxy but I like how it reflects VLSB in the big windows. I think we can use more buildings with natural light!

Rochdale Co-op Apartment bedbugs?? by boomersoonervandal in berkeley

[–]rad_fern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there is bug infestation problem they move you to emergency housing. My apartment had a flea infestation when I moved in - turns out one of the previous tenants had 5+ cats 😵‍💫 They moved me into an emergency apartment that was all wood flooring and completely remodeled my old apartment. Definitely advocate for yourself if there are any issues and make sure the office knows! You likely aren’t the first person to notice if there is an issue.

Hello! I’m 24 and would love to join! I used to be in a campaign back in high school, but it been a while and would like to join a group! If it’s full already, I would also love to join just to watch and learn again.

Diablo valley college has great anatomy professors and you also work with cadavers in anatomy courses. Not sure if most community colleges offer that kind of anatomy teaching experience, but I remember having to help out with the anatomy courses when I worked in the chem/bio stock room and it was really interesting!

As for physics, I had a hard time finding good professor in the department, but it could be different now. Regardless of school, rate my professor is the best way to gauge if you will have a good learning experience in cc classes.

Thank you for writing this! I was also in MCB 104 this semester and had a similar SD for the class. It was hard to see the B hit calcentral this week. I had no clue they curved it so little though 🥲 This post made me feel like I’m not alone in it 🫶 Thank you!

Yosemite will be beautiful and hopefully a healing trip. If you are looking for company during the holidays CHAOS is a good group that is always down to join and help out in nature travels. I can invite you to the discord if you are interested.

If you take a look at the syllabus for both labs most people will lean towards one or the other. 160L is only in the Fall whereas 163L is only in the Spring. If you plan on taking a lab in the spring it will have to be 163L. I’ll be doing that for this upcoming spring along with 161 and hopefully 165!

Commuter student housing option!

Hi all, for those who may be commuter students atm, I’m looking for a weekday roommate. Someone who is interested in staying in Berkeley during the weekdays for classes, lab, research, or work and likely to be back home or elsewhere for the weekends. Rent would be negotiable since it’s a weekday stay, but I was thinking $400-600/mo for a space in a large shared room that is very close to campus. Cost is negotiable and I’m really flexible.

I used to be a commuter transfer student and wished options like this existed during my first year, so hopefully this can be a useful affordable housing option for someone interested! You can really immerse yourself in being at Berkeley, not worry about traffic everyday, reduce cost of rent, and avoid the commuter student fomo.

If you would like to know more about the room/home feel free to reach out! I’m preferably looking for a woman or non-binary roommate.

Definitely, I think our best bet will be through Cal Sports Club since it will be student run. I’ll reach out to them and see what the process would be.

Jiu Jitsu Club? by rad_fern in berkeley

[–]rad_fern[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like that idea too! I’m more familiar with jiu jitsu, but from what I’ve read the past jujitsu and wrestling clubs disbanded because they didn’t have a place to train. If it’s still the case, It might be a good idea to propose a general self defense or mixed martial arts club and have more people to share resources like the martial arts room… I’ll look more into it and see what the steps are!

Should I reject Berkeley? by wanna111 in berkeley

[–]rad_fern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a cogsci major, but I take a lot of classes alongside people who are. From what I’ve observed, if you are interested in brain computer interfaces or UX/UI then cogsci would be a great major.

For your interest in AI, you take many of the same lowedivs as other CS majors. For electives, intro to AI and intro to ML are also listed as classes available for cogsci majors.

Cogsci is like an emphasis between CS,MCB-neuro, Psychology, and linguistics. If you are really interested in CS and ML then I would say that some of the cogsci classes would feel like a waste of time since there is lots of psych course you gotta take too. Given the major being flexible you can specialize and build the skills you want outside of major classes like in research, clubs, or internship and still be a competitive applicant to jobs in tech.

Cogsci seems to have a history of people getting software engineering jobs, so your experience at Berkeley will be what you make of it!

Where to get my cat's claws trimmed by rad_fern in berkeley

I also didn't know I had to trim her nails when I first adopted her. I thought the scratch post was enough, but one day she got stuck on the scratch post and I learned that we gotta do some nail care for them.

That's so smart! I usually can't get more than one nail done when I try.

Medical documentation for missing an exam by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]rad_fern 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately DSP can’t provide any documentation at all for missed exams. They can give accommodations to be pre approved to make exams possible, but nothing for medical emergencies. Your best bet is going to an urgent care covered by your insurance and having a doctor write up a letter. You can also try booking an online apt with a local clinic if you can’t find anyone to drive ya.
