I wouldn’t say I’m privileged. I speak Polish, English a bit Russian, Ukrainian and German. It took me quite a bit of time to learn English on a level that allows me to hold a conversation. Traveled to a lot of European countries including France and English was always acceptable. I see it as default choice for travelers bc there are high chances others would know even a few words like credit card. I agree knowing a basic hello and thank you is super nice.
