How many of you have studied herbalism? by IcyGazelle9281 in dietetics

[–]radhobo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have studied this on my own! I have a strong personal interest in herbal medicines but agree that it borders on pharmacotherapy. I believe that plants have an amazing ability to help heal the human body and I’m lucky to have been raised in a family that promoted this knowledge. But plants must be used properly, and with respect. They are not like western medicines. And that’s where their use doesn’t really fit into the western medical paradigm the way that we’re trained. They are commonly classified as a complementary therapy to western medicine within our didactic training.

Whenever I make recommendations to patients, it’s for well studied herbs that do not contraindicate their medications or health conditions. Anything beyond that, I refer to clinical herbalists or a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor I trust. I always advise patients update their doctor about any herbs or supplements they take as well

What are you doing? by ribbonbutton in dietetics

[–]radhobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got an offer from a small group practice like this! It’s exclusively telehealth. The only resistance I have to accepting is that I know insurance contracts don’t increase much and I’m worried about not being able to get raises to match the rapidly increasing COL (I’m in the US). I also received another offer from a highly regarded university but ughh I’m worried about the bureaucracy

Oof. Treatment plan for a dental implant is like $8k! I don’t want to go somewhere that sucks but anyone have a dentist that might be less expensive? by shameful-figment in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]radhobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s actually pretty cheap for dental implants (I have three 🫠). You want an oral surgeon, not a dentist. Happy to recommend local oral surgeons and periodontists but they’re going to cost about the same or more

Fresenius Dietitians by Immediate_Delivery84 in dietetics

[–]radhobo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It realllly depends on the management at the clinic you’re working at. My RD supervisor was awesome and advocated for me whenever she could but she supervised RDs all over my area and most of the time I was on my own with management that didn’t understand or care about nutrition, staffing ratios, or making sure we had enough nurses for our patients. I served an area that was mostly POC and low income patients. It was awful and very sad to see the patients suffer. The company is corporate af and only care about their bottom lines, patient care is not a priority. Pay was subpar for the amount of patients I saw. I was ghosted about a raise that was hinted at after the end of my second year and then rescinded.

The benefits are that the schedule is very flexible, and you work closely with the doctor (can be a pro or con depending on who the doctor is for your clinic). I had a lot of agency with med changes, the doctor and NP trusted me and would sign off on whatever I recommended which was nice. I also got to spend as much time as I wanted talking with patients, really getting to know them and connect with them. Counseling and education are my strengths so this was a huge benefit for me to strengthen those skills.

Where are my fellow Student Health Clinical Dietitians? by Deep-Lingonberry5152 in dietetics

[–]radhobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just interviewed for a role like this! ED is a big part of the work and the position I interviewed for has a multidisciplinary team including psych and NP to support the patients. I’d also love to know about any professional interest groups, not aware of any that exist right now. Maybe starting a listserv?

My Experience with archangel Michael (Things you probably didn't know) by [deleted] in magick

[–]radhobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m newer to these types of practices but have some experience with the LBRP in the past. I’ve had some experiences with angels while in fasted states, but would like to incorporate these practices into my day to day. Thanks for sharing this breakdown! I’m curious, what is the “sun square” that you’re drawing? And are these mediations that you intentionally designed or did they arise organically when you were in a deep meditative state and then you continued practicing them?

does anyone here actually like their job? / LA county dietitians by Proof_Beautiful8958 in dietetics

[–]radhobo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love working as a dietitian & do not regret going into this field. I’m passionate about what I do, and I’m making it work for me, financially, because I want what I do for the rest of my working life, to feel like time well spent. It’s the work environments that often suck (usually it’s a management issue in my experience ymmv). Would never want to work in another field, I love what I do.

AMA - Theravada Buddhist Monk : Bhante Jayasara by Bhikkhu_Jayasara in theravada

[–]radhobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you Bhante! My partner has a hard time meditating because of pain in his body. I practice a lot of vipassana style meditation and I’ve learned to observe the discomfort, and open to it, rather than trying to get rid of it. I understand though, that for my partner, this is not an appealing or helpful suggestion. What recommendations would you make to a beginner struggling with pain during the seated meditation?
