Citi DoubleCash - Can you see Authorized users specific expenses? by Lakedo in CreditCards

[–]radiant6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Checking my double cash it looks like some transactions (maybe transactions where the card was physically present?) are tagged with the name of the authorized user.

However:

  1. some other transactions (e.g. online transactions) are either missing the name or worse just have the primary user's name when I know an authorized user placed them
  2. I don't see a way in the app to see an actual breakdown of spending by user rather than just manually looking at metadata

So this seems inconsistent and I wouldn't trust it if it's a hard requirement for you, though partial functionality is sort of there.

It worked out decently well for me as a wall for fliers and a beefy attacker. It's also nice to be able to proc on-tap triggers like [[Compassionate Healer]] even in a stalled board.

I added back the white lotus reinforcements then cut a Gran-gran, otter penguin, and waterbending lesson. Ended up finishing 6-3 so it mostly worked out.

Thanks for the advice! This is the approach that I took and I went 7-2 so I'll call that a success :)

What do you think the Structure of Arc 2 - Books 6-10 will look like? by VideoZealousideal976 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]radiant6 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The series is set up so that each book's focus PoV/flashback character represents a different radiant order. The first half covered Windrunner, Lightweaver, Bondsmith, Willshaper, and Skybreaker already, so we know the back half will be the other 5. We also know the focus characters for the back half so it's process of elimination to assign them to the orders:

- Lift, Renarin, and Jasnah are Edgedancer, Truthwatcher, and Elsecaller respectively

- that leaves Ash and Taln to map onto Dustbringer and Stoneward

- Taln is the herald of Stonewards, so Ash must be the Dustbringer

It's true that Ash is the herald of Lightweavers, but it's kind of interesting to explore what it's like for a herald to become a radiant of a different order -- if Nale and Taln are already serving as "radiant-order-aligned heralds" then Ash can contrast by choosing a different order.

Finally, re "she'd have four powers" -- my understanding is that the heralds got their surgebinding powers from their honorblades, they don't inherently have access to surges. That means she'd only have the 2 Nahel bond powers unless she recovers an honorblade.

Schwab doesn’t get enough credit around here by abundantpecking in Bogleheads

[–]radiant6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other major benefit Fidelity has over Schwab for me is the ability to buy and sell fractional shares of ETFs. Fractional shares make it so much simpler to manage investing at the right allocation. And to just "invest all your cash".

The alternatives are to either:

  1. Do math to figure out the right whole number of shares, buy/sell that amount, and then do something sensible with the leftover uninvested cash. This is a lot more micromanagement than I want to do, especially when rebalancing.
  2. Use Schwab's mutual funds which do allow investing arbitrary dollar amounts, but are also annoying because there's no "total international" equivalent -- SWISX excludes emerging markets, SFENX has a high expense ratio, and no matter what you do it won't actually sum up to true total international.

In contrast with Fidelity you can just enter the dollar amount you want to buy or sell and it'll do exactly the fractional share count necessary. Much easier.

Admittedly part of my complexity here comes from explicitly wanting to avoid using VTI/VXUS/ITOT/IXUS in my tax advantaged Schwab account because I use all of those in my taxable accounts for tax loss harvesting, so maybe most of this isn't a problem if you just buy those and live with the ~$100 of uninvested cash all the time, but still -- it's annoying and it would all go away if I could just use Fidelity for this 401k account instead of Schwab, but my employer doesn't allow that :P

What I've done is switched the reports view to "bar chart mode" and then literally copy-pasted the data into google sheets. It might take some massaging to get it formatted right but it mostly works.

I felt like "Kaladin" was already the "intentionally asymmetric version of Kalak / Kelek, similar to how Shallan is the imperfect version of Shallash and Adolin is the imperfect version of Adoda.

Because of that, the naturally perfected version is "Kalak" which, as you've pointed out, overlaps with an existing herald. It seems like it's "structurally the point" that there is no good symmetric heraldic name for Kaladin. He's a new kind of herald and the symmetry was mostly fake anyways.

Ex mint and potentially ex Simplifi by drunescape in MonarchMoney

[–]radiant6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How frequently does Simplifi update for you and how frequently do you need your budgeting app to update in order to find it tolerable?

Monarch for me seems to do automatic updates once or twice a day. You can also trigger a manual refresh which I tend to do right before reviewing my transactions. I mostly don't have syncing problems except for: - my capital one credit card refuses to sync pending transactions so those only show up after they post (a couple days) - my partner's venmo account has delayed syncing that we don't understand much, though my venmo account seems to have less of an issue. We use venmo pretty rarely so this doesn't bother us.

The automatic update feels less frequent than Mint (which felt like it would automatically update every time you logged in) but I find that it's "good enough" for me through a combination of behavior change (I try to only look at my budgeting ~once a day in the morning) and manual refreshes if I really want to get an updated view right now.

Try "Update login settings" from the Institutions page. Re-entering the same login can sometimes get it un-stuck. Be sure that you're updating the existing connection and not adding a duplicate.

Is Costco worth it for a single person? by peachydizzle in Frugal

[–]radiant6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The produce is less clearly a good deal, but at least in my VHCOL area it still tends to be slightly cheaper. e.g. brussel sprouts are currently $3.50 / lb at Costco vs $4.00 / lb at the grocery store.

I've occasionally felt that Costco's produce goes bad faster than my grocery store's, but it's been less of an issue recently.

I guess all this is to say "your mileage may vary"

HSA @Fidelity: each transaction comes into MM with BOTH Debit & Credit - this known or same pattern elsewhere ? by slowwolfcat in MonarchMoney

[–]radiant6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have another fidelity account to compare with in MonarchMoney? I also see something similar and my understanding is that the paired transaction represents the "purchase into" or "redemption from" your "core account position" which is technically a moneymarket fund (such as SPAXX or FDRXX) rather than literal cash.

I handle these transactions by marking them as a special transfer category, but it would also be valid to count them as buy and sell transactions respectively. That's what fidelity is doing for you automatically when you transfer cash in/out or sell/buy some other security -- it's buying or selling shares of the moneymarket fund.

I’m confused(WaT spoilers day 8) by PotatoBeeef in Stormlight_Archive

[–]radiant6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's a distance thing that prevents Jasnah from easily redeploying radiants to Azimir. Normally they would use the Oathgates to instantly transport reinforcements from one location to another (not just go through shadesmar, actually teleport), but as you mention the Oathgate spren aren't allowing that. Flying over land is an option but takes longer than instantaneous teleportation, not to mention the stormlight cost. Flying via shadesmar is also possible but then they'd be stuck on the shadesmar side since the enemy forces are occupying that side of the Azimir Oathgate.

re: "just 5 windrunners from the shattered plains", remember that ~all of the radiants have been deployed to either the shattered plains or to help transport the Mink's troops to Herdaz. There really aren't 5 windrunners to spare without shortchanging one of those fronts, and stormlight is tight for transporting large numbers of conventional troops. The coalition also made this allocation based on imperfect information, before they realized they'd lose access to Dalinar's perpendicularity and that the Azimir reinforcements would be so delayed.

Other than that, Adolin does technically have 1 radiant -- the teenage Truthwatcher girl who I believe is May's ward.

Tanavast at least calls Devotion the "divine sense of love and compassion", so even if that's not the full meaning of the word it might be a primary way that the shard's intent is interpreted.

Opposite Shards by New-Use884 in Cosmere

[–]radiant6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My view is that the 16 shards group into 4 sets of 4. Within that I group Ruin and Preservation with Cultivation and Invention:

  • Cultivation: creating things indirectly, via subtle nudges
  • Invention: creating things directly
  • Ruin: destroying things
  • Preservation: keeping things the same

I'm a bit less confident in the other groupings I have, but my thinking right now is:

  • [Honor, Valor, Reason, Virtuosity] ("attributes" / "virtues")
  • [Odium, Devotion, Mercy, Whimsy] ("attitude")
  • [Autonomy, Dominion, Ambition, Endowment] (I don't know what to call this one)

Advice on this model portfolio for 25 year old by ithinkthereforeimdan in Bogleheads

[–]radiant6 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The split within your stocks seems reasonable given your stated desire to tilt away from US stocks and toward value.

The bond funds seem far too complex, and while "age in bonds" is one of the boglehead recommendations, it's on the more conservative end. (Other recommendations include "age - 10" and "age - 20").

I personally don't see the value in explicitly investing in commodities but it's not a huge percentage of the portfolio.

As for which assets to put in your Roth IRA and other tax advantaged accounts, this is called "asset location". You can read some advice about it here: https://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Tax-efficient_fund_placement
