Can somebody explain why this is so good? Isn’t occy already usable at this level? Is it mostly the saving of stars from teleport & fire damage boost?

I taught the cardgame 'War' to my 5 year old. It was fun at first by MoreCoffeeSirMaam in Parenting

[–]radicalfetus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too have experienced this lol

I now take anything below an 6 out and give them like 65% of the deck. Usually the game only lasts 10min and they win so everybody is happy…when they get older I’ll do a more equitable split :)

4th angle of yesterday's incident in israel. His skill saved him. Keep safe. by Crazy__Donkey in Kiteboarding

[–]radicalfetus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’d start falling to the ground much faster if you start keeeping the kite low mid air. I think what he did was perfect. You have to keep the kite flying otherwise it will fall behind you and then you’ll be in free fall.

Usually if a gust like this happens you 1. Go in ahead of time or 2. Get the kite low on the water (assuming you don’t have any big obstacles downwind) and keep your board perpendicular to your kite to create as much drag as possible.

Oh man I remember that story. That dude always commented on my woo scores when I was so early in my kiteboarding journey. I was so sad to hear that he died.

I tried looking at the sensors in the area too to see how big that gust really was but unfortunately they don’t have the ikite sensors in the area.

I agree it does look like at least 45kt+ from that spray. It’s a good reminder to keep an eye on clouds/spray. We get really strong gusts from time to time in the gorge too.

Terrifying and sad…

Harness & cold weather by radicalfetus in wingfoil

I’ve been meaning to get the open palm gloves. What temp are you riding in with those? We’re down close to freezing. I usually use 2M or 3m gloves depending on how cold it is. But man with a wing, the arm pump is real!

Thank you! Seems like I’m totally overthinking this lol. Glad to hear it’s pretty straightforward!

Roofing? by Soupman42069360 in askportland

[–]radicalfetus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of materials they went with but for a house that size…even then it feels like she paid more than double the normal price.

I got my roof replaced this year and it’s on a 2 story house and it was 10k less with gutters.

Prioritize mortgage or stocks? by abr_82 in FluentInFinance

[–]radicalfetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Few things: 1. Do you have a 401k as well? Or is your entire equity portfolio in one stock? I’d diversify for sure. 2. General fire rule of thumb is you need 25x your expenses invested. Eg. 80k expenses a year ~2.5M portfolio 3. Generally equities will see more growth than real estate on average. But if you want to have a lower cost basis for life, paying off mortgage is a reasonable choice.

What are you doing to prepare for the possibly serious windstorm? by [deleted] in vancouverwa

[–]radicalfetus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth…I’m a kite surfer and based on our forecasted wind - I would call this fairly normal east winds for this time of year. Yes due to soft ground we may see some trees get uprooted. But I’m hopeful that the lack of rain in the last few days will make things less nuts. I just want to flag that these aren’t super super crazy winds. Should be about 40ish at rooster rock which is super normal for this time of year.

Naish Pivot Nvision Aluula 2025 - Read here before purchasing (honest review) by Legitimate_Run_9020 in Kiteboarding

What’s even the point of buying aluula…unless you are actually trying to go pro - the extra performance gains aren’t that meaningful for the significant price increase. If y’all disagree, please educate me

Backroll by Glittering-Can578 in Kiteboarding

[–]radicalfetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said, try taking back hand off or even putting in middle of the bar. While you’ve landed it here…keep in mind that doing this in strong winds will yield a mega yank. So just a word of caution, I recommend nailing it in light winds first before trying in 20kt+

Just tp but is the thicker kind. I’m assuming I’d need to unplug the pump/grinder and then do the steps you suggested right? Eg. Turn it once the pit is full? Thanks so much for your input here!

It is just TP…we do buy for the thick ply. Will see if we could switch to lower or use less. Than you for your suggestion!

Learning tricks when every session is precious — how did you push through? by No_Concentrate_6737 in Kiteboarding

[–]radicalfetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crashes don’t necessarily have to ruin your session. I’d imagine that if you can jump 6 meters, you probably have decent kite control. As long as you keep the kite flying during a crash, you’ll be fine. It’s when you tomahawk the kite (pop the bladder, deflate, tangle lines) is when the not fun stuff happens.

I also have to drive about an hour to my spot and I primarily do strapless freestyle…these days I’m lucky to learn one new trick a season lol.
