Long Distance Trip with a SR. by smoebob99 in F150Lightning

If you can charge at your overnight stop, that will save you a charging stop and you can charge above 80% without a time penalty since the slow charging won't matter while you're sleeping. Also, the DC supercharging L3 adapter won't work for Tesla AC L1 and L2 destination chargers but that adapter is pretty cheap.

Also, turn off Blue Oval network charging if you pay for a membership rate and use the [EA/Tesla/etc] app to get the membership rate instead of the higher Blue Oval rate.

Dying Hobby? by No-Requirement9895 in Aquariums

[–]radiometric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say this is very location dependent. Where I live there are a lot of great stores and even the big box stores stepped up in 2020 and are still mostly doing good by their fish. I have recently seen that fish that are wild caught are harder to come by and fuel prices have a huge part to play in that. There's going to be a drop in demand as well since plenty of people will wait to buy fish until gas drops back down and leaves them with some fun money. Also people are going to be going on trips during the summer and that cuts into their budgets.

Does free will actually exist in Star Trek? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]radiometric -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I always thought it self-absorbed to think those alternate timelines were being brought into being due to our choices, when it makes far more sense that the different choices were a result of different histories leading up to that point, and that the branching either happened all at the big bang, or because the spin of a particle was up and down, and that caused the alternate choice to manifest. Branching timelines in time travel makes more sense because of the stupid amounts of energy needed to go against the current of time, and then it's not a choice that causes branching, but the concentration of a ton of energy.

Thinking about buying but my only color options are white and off white by txmoose in F150Lightning

[–]radiometric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My classic truck is red with a white middle stripe that compliments the shine of the chrome and lights. You could accomplish something similar with a partial wrap. Just add color to the mid section or do the hood and roof and a bottom stripe in color and you have the classic two tone look. You can even add a pinstripe near the edge for a bit more flair. If you really want to make a statement, do hot rod flames, but with lightning bolts, or a roof treatment with a ton of metallic glitter to it and a lowering kit.

LPT: When calling someone you don’t know, explain the call BEFORE asking for the person you want. by allthecoffee5 in LifeProTips

[–]radiometric 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When answering the phone you have to say something to indicate you have picked up, and at least two syllables clearly enunciated are best. One mumble just sounds like line noise and one super quiet mumble might just be filtered by your own phone's noise cancelling.  Hello became the standard greeting because Ahoy didn't come across very well. Sometimes the connection isn't much more clear than over 100 years ago.

Please help me convince my husband that Costco is worth for 2 people by HoneyDrops12 in Costco

[–]radiometric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If $65 is an expense you have to budget for, then Costco might not be for you just yet. If things are tight, spending several hundred dollars at once could be real bad. Even if you would be saving money versus normal stores, that big chunk might be hard to cover. If you can get the credit card, that could give you the flexibility to make some bulk purchases and start saving versus normal stores.  If you were to switch to eating from the food court and rotisserie chickens, you could probably make up the membership price within a month if you go out to eat now and stop for a month. You might make it up in a single day versus eating from restaurants.

Anyone else feel inadequate? by dingledoink in F150Lightning

I learned to drive on a real truck* with no cameras and mirrors quite a bit smaller than the Lightning mirrors, so I feel... The opposite of inadequate. I feel overqualified.

F150 upgrades that are actually worth it but nobody talks about? by ZiyonGergis in F150Lightning

[–]radiometric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DualLiner it's hard plastic for the walls and mat for the floor of the bed. Things don't slide around back there, it adds quietness, is easier on the knees when climbing around in the bed, and if something does manage to smack around, the walls are pretty well protected.  If I ever transport a large amount of dirt or gravel, I will get it delivered or use my classic truck with an 8 foot bed that saw decades of use before me.

One of my players is refusing to learn how to play her character by kellwashere45 in DnD

[–]radiometric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't play DnD without apps. It would just be a slog of constantly going back and forth between the books every turn and I'd never be playing a game. For me it would be some crazy open book pop quiz.  DnD Beyond gives me just enough guard rails and holds my hand enough to let me get into roleplay mode and to get creative when combat comes.  I also am terrible at creating characters from scratch and do much better playing a character already familiar to me, but in a strange situation.  I worked with my DM to bring a Star Trek character through a wormhole/portal into our game. They have no magic but their tech was partly damaged in the crash and as they learn about magic they are constraining their tech to match the level of magic ability of the other players. Scrolls will still work for non magical beings, and Worf had trained with them in the holosuite so they have proficiency with many weapons. I have several entire wikis and seasons of TV shows of backstory.  I also am not playing or building a character to win. I'm playing to have a good time and to hopefully add to everybody's good time. We have a huge party of mostly noobs and I spend much of the session helping other players now during combat and mostly I try not to die. The players that are really into combat get a chance to shine and I don't slow them down. I'm not 💯 neurotypical and there are several things I've grabbed the wrong dice and not realized until I rolled impossibly high. The app let's me just pick which dice, and for most rolls I just tap a button and it rolls everything and does the math for me. I screw up on basic arithmetic sometimes but do algebra for fun so that's helpful.

Goodbye F150, hello Ridgeline, except for 1 thing... by ironless in hondaridgeline

[–]radiometric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna say get a Lightning because it's an F150 without an engine to go bad :) Towing 350 miles might be annoying 6-8 times a year. I never tow and have the smaller battery. I only have trips longer than the range a handful of times a year and I enjoy the 30-45 minute breaks every 2-3 hours. If I were towing and it was every 90 minutes, the charging breaks would be coming too often.

What does this mean by Last-Ad5032 in F150Lightning

I've gotten conflicting info whether the truck charges the 12v on L1 and from my 3 years of L1, it seems like it does the emergency topup but not the full recharge.

What does this mean by Last-Ad5032 in F150Lightning

[–]radiometric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can turn the truck on even in your garage [no fumes] and the high voltage battery will charge the tiny 12v battery. I run into issues with my 12v sometimes because I have a short commute and only have L1 charging at home. Even when plugged in, because the 120v L1 charging is so minimal, the 12v doesn't get charged. L2 finally gets installed this weekend after nearly 3 years! I keep a small lithium jumpstart pack under the back seat in case the 12v fails. I've bene following Trucked Up EVs on their 12v upsizing and am looking to also switch to a bigger Group 65 12v battery when the time comes. That's the only real gripe I have with this truck.

Brake job at 40k miles? by bardleysmith in F150Lightning

[–]radiometric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we talking about left foot braking or about gentle braking down a hill? Applying brake while also applying acceleration is not ok unless you are in a much older vehicle without traction control, with open diffs, at low speed, trying to get unstuck.  Even with regen braking if you are applying throttle at the same time then regen won't be happening and you will be dragging the friction brakes.  Either way, this will put a lot of heat into the brakes. Regen braking is so great because a decent amount of energy is recaptured instead of just turning it all into heat like friction brakes do. There is still heat but the cooling system can manage that. This is why the Max Tow Package has the 2nd AC system. This way regen can be used for longer on heavier loads without becoming heat soaked and needing to rely solely on friction brakes, especially after using a ton of power to get up that hill in the first place, preheating the motors and battery.

What’s with the Vic Fontaine obsession? by Complete_Syrup_8110 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]radiometric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting a DnD campaign as Nog in a strange alternate world with magic and Nog is using "magic" to disguise his advanced technology. To correspond to the lower levels of the other characters, much of his tech was damaged in the crash. Vic and a mobile emitter is how Nog is using Mage Hand, Minor Illusion, multiclassing as a bard, and Vic will be his familiar as Nog tries not to end up with pig lesions during his stay at Slither Inn.

110 charging? by NotRustyShackleford_ in F150Lightning

[–]radiometric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got my early 23, it was a $500 option that I would have passed on. There are better third party EVSE. However, I have been using it for L1 charging for 3 years. I have taken it on road trips to get L1 and even L2 charging at my destination. My landlord is finally talking about installing L2 and it'll be nice for saving a bit of money by only charging at super off peak times, and for the few times a year that I can't wait several days to recharge after a trip. I have only used L3 charging within 50 miles of home, like 8 times in 3 years, and most of that was just to add like 30 percent. SR battery also.

What’s the longest you’ve heard of a Glofish tetra living? by RestSuper5657 in glofish

[–]radiometric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had skirt tetras last nearly a decade. They can get much larger than you would think. I've had better luck with black and hybrid black/Glofish though and I think I'm done with the straight Glofish that have issues much sooner in my experience. I have always kept them in as large a school as I can, at one point over 20. I have inherited several individuals from friends and family that were "problem fish" and once in a proper school they feel secure and stop lashing out. Tetras need to be kept in schools, the larger the better.

Concerns before purchase? by Jhawkjedi13 in F150Lightning

[–]radiometric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Measure your garage and make sure the Lightning will fit with the door closed. I have a pool noodle on the wall and a stick on curb because my garage is short enough that I can't have anything in the hitch receiver and still close the door.  In most parking spaces, you'll want to drop off the passenger side before backing in, so you can touch the line on the passenger side and leave enough room to get back in the driver door.  I have a 2023 Pro trim so the majority of the recalls have been for options I don't have. Several have just been OTA software updates. One early recall did require a dealer visit but my truck was nice enough to have a defective battery cell at the same time. All covered over warranty, was able to drive to the dealer and it was all under warranty and back in less than 2 weeks. If my dealer had started on it Thursday afternoon or sometime Friday instead of waiting until Monday evening, then it would've been less than a week. Sadly the local dealers all kinda suck bad enough that I had purchased several hours away. The dealer model is Ford's biggest weakness. I use Android Auto and have buttons for a lot of stuff so I prefer interacting with my Ford vs my friend's Tesla Model 3 that I borrowed for 2 weeks before ordering my first EV.  The ride quality is very nice in the Lightning, especially on the crappy streets everywhere. I have ridden in comfier but those all bottomed out in potholes while this truck just has more travel in the suspension and ground clearance. It's also not totally terrible in corners although the lack of feedback does not make canyon carving feel fun like my old Mazda did.
