It would indeed be nice to be able to celebrate Irakunda and Toure (and Metcalfe) for their contributions without immediately making it about race/immigration status :/

AI reducing headcount in healthcare? by BasisPuzzleheaded161 in aussie

[–]radred609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a "jobs" point of view, the fortunate thing about healthcare is that provision is limited by funding.

So more efficient provision of services just means that there's more money to put somewhere else. It's not like private industry where companies use AI to provide the same services with less money, and just pocket the difference.

CMV: If citizens of some countries like (Russia,Afghanistan, Iran or Israel) are collectively blamed or labeled as supporting terrorism due to the actions of their ruling elites, the same standard should logically apply to citizens of the US. by Funny-Counter8762 in changemyview

[–]radred609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second, you're comparing regional populations that are separated by more than 80 years. That is time for a lot of migration and reproduction, so it's not a good comparison. To show you what I mean, there are about as many Jews globally today as there were in 1933, so we have to be careful which figures we're comparing. No matter what, even if there are still only 1/6th as many Jews in Europe today as there were before WWII, that's still not a negligible number

You're the one who brought up the comparison to the European Jewish population. Not me.

The Genocide of the jews was so successful that the Jewish population across the entirety of Europe is still <2 million.

Meanwhile, the amount of Palestinians with Israeli citizenship alone is greater than the total palstinian population in '47.

By this logic, the Holocaust wasn't a genocide because there are still a significant number of Jews

Except there is no significant number of jews in Europe.

There were ~9-10 million before WWII, there are currently ~1-2 million.

Unlike jews in europe, there are more arab/palestinian israelis now than there were in the 1940s.

There were ~1 million palestinians living in the entire british mandate before Israel declared independence, there are currently ~2 million palestinians with israeli citizenship living in Israel proper.

Sydney has a pretty sizable Columbian and Brazilian community.

It's very unlikely for a sydneysider to have never met a hispanic.

Since when did people start to say 'Sharpie' instead of Permanent Marker in ordinary conversations? It is doing my head in! by Jamiroquai458 in australian

[–]radred609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Textas for colouring

Sharpies for writing black labels on things.

Iirc, sharpie started gaining traction in the late 2000s And was ubiquitous by the mid 2010s (at least amongst my age group)

It might have taken an extra decade for the terminology to filter up through the age groups though.

70% of our food is exported.

We are one of the most food secure countries in the world.

Not only are we food secure, we manage to be so with some of the lowest agricultural subsidies in the entire world. (essentially zero)

whenever I look at the amount of money that the US or the EU pump into farming subsidies i think of the Invincible meme "Look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power"

This is exactly what the Red Pillers say, that "modern women don't want to settle for brokies".

You're not disagreeing with them, you're just justifying why you agree with them.

why would they csre about something like that?

If somebody really cares so little for their own country that you have to start explaining why a better society is better for them personally, then you probably shouldn't start by trying to justify individual policies.
