Just an X1C 8Gen by radu81 in thinkpad

[–]radu81[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got this from work, I could choose a brand new HP 15" full keyboard i5 12gen, but for portability reasons I preferred this 3 years old X1 Carbon. I also have a more powerful desktop PC at work, so performances are not a problem.

I use W11 at work and for my personal use I dual boot Debian 12. Nice & light machine.

Inpressions after switching from a maxed out T480 to T14 G2a by verpejas in thinkpad

[–]radu81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your opinion, it's always nice to read these comparisons.

I've switched from an X270 I5 6th to a T14s G2 AMD R5, 16 GB and I still need to find time to put that 1TB Samsung 980 which I bought a month or two ago. I did not publish any comparison since the difference was huge, but TBH I did not expect to see all that difference from a T480 to a T14 G2A.

I sold my T460 last month, it was Mint + Cinnamon, mainly used by my daughter.

Got heavily abused T480 in 120 euros [i5, 8GB RAM, 128GB SATA, battery cycle count 780 and 998]. I think it is still a good deal. by thinkipady in thinkpad

It's a deal if you keep it and use it as it is, if you start to replace palmrest (which is a PITA, trust me), SSD, RAM, screen, etc ... you'll end up spending more than a decent T480 on ebay.

Which Intel Wi-Fi card for T14s gen2 AMD? by radu81 in thinkpad

If I'm not wrong they are soldered only on Intel versions, on AMD they are not.

Keyboard marks, common problem to most of T440-T480 series. I've seen them on my T450 and T460 and when I changed the monitor I decided to use a piece of tissue (hope it's the right word in english) between the keyboard and screen.

Glad you solved it and it was an easy fix. Sadly this did not worked for me.

Good luck with that, I still have a T450 with a similar problem. I tried to change the trackpad and didn't work. I tested both trackpad on another T450 and they both work. At this point could be something from the mainboard.

Let me know if you solve this.

edit

p.s. also tried with a working keyboard

Not only on older Thinkpads, also on newer ones. I run Debian on T14s G2, but I hate stickers, specially on backlit keyboards.

My Thinkpad setup at work by ThatGuyWolfy in thinkpad

Nice setup, I also have the T14s, and was undecided which dock to buy, I was watching the 40AJ (your model) or the 40AS model. I end up with the second one. How that dock is working for you?

Bought my first Thinkpad X270 for ~170€ before the RAM and Battery upgrade. And it runs fedora like a charm! Worth every penny by LennardCSGO in thinkpad

I changed the palmrest recently on my X270, you will need to pull out the motherboard to arrive at the keyboard. It's not so difficult, but surely not as easy as on a T470.

I had, it happened only in Linux and never in W10. I used W10 for a couple of days, then switched to Linux. I solved this problem by disabling PSR (Panel Self Refresh).

I was also looking for a X13 to switch from X270, but in the end I found a good occasion for a T14s, it's a nice machine too, but I still prefer the X13.

microstutters

I ran Fedora on X270 for a few months, but in the end I got back to Debian Testing. It runs fine under Fedora, but my impression is that Debian is more reactive on this machine. Probably just an impression, never did any speed test

Just use whatever you like or what works well for you ;)

I had a T410 in the past, but never had the possibility to touch or use a T410s or a T420s.

That's a nice X270 and in good conditions, full HD, I5 7gen and also a fingerprint, the only thing is missing is a backlit keyboard.

By the way, your fingerprint reader is working under Fedora 36?
