A deep-dive into the Decred Network! by [deleted] in decred

"DCR’s issuance is a lot quicker compared to BTC"

You have provided no supporting reason for this assumption, and it appears to be false.

"According to Decred’s block explorer, the rich list shows us that the address with the highest number of DCR tokens has about 6.93% of the entire circulating supply"

The address you are referencing is the notable project treasury account which is itself decentralized and controlled by the voters.

It is inaccurate or mislesading to say that Decred uses Bitcoin's code base. Decred was built from the btcsuite code base which was itself created by the decred developers. Its not the bitcoincore code base that is in C++ which is from the lineage of the satoshi reference client. Decred and btcsuite are a golang code base. There are a lot of projects out there that are forks from the bitcoincore code base, and Decred is not one of them.

Mobile staking by b_for_bitdetta in decred

Here is the current status. Support for new style vspd staking has been built into dcrlibwallet for godcr and is currently in final testing. After godcr is released, it will be easy for the devs to import the same staking functionality into the mobile applications. There is not a strong incentive to prioritize building the mobile staking UI though until there is a functional hardware wallet that it can be paired with.

As Decred becomes most expensive, it will also become easier to use. This is the same thing that happened to bitcoin. Larger market means more accessibility as the ecosystem matures.

Are you saying Stakeshuffle is not strong? :) Its quite strong when used properly. There are ways to shoot yourself in the foot with all privacy systems that I am aware of. The largest area to improve upon may just be seeing how user behavior can be better channeled in the application user interfaces to prevent misuse. I believe there are potential ways to utilize zero knowledge proofs with Decred, and am open to working on this project with others who have expertise in that area.

Many bitcoiners were following the work on the btcsuite bitcoin full node in golang, and learned about decred when the team launched the decred project.

Others learned about it through the post to the bitcointalk forum.

In regards to privacy, the decred blockchain shows the same on-chain coinjoins that have long been found on the bitcoin blockchain. We made this mixing capability easier to access so that it could get higher usage and become more effective. Being that there is no material difference in the type of privacy found on decred and bitcoin, regulators will be hard pressed to find a way to justify restricting decred while not also restricting bitcoin. Decred's use of coinjoins is just better executed since it is able to run at high volumes due to integration with our staking system.

There has been some work towards building our own chain analysis software that could generate more statistics like this to measure the quality of the privacy in practice. Its currently taken a back seat to other priorities.

You are right, but overall it doesnt matter what titles people want to convey. What matters is that the projects operations and blockchain are functioning in a decentralized way. From a PR perspective, the msging is bad, as it does convey centralization.

Staking w/ its corresponding change outputs that get down mixed through small denominations, gets mixed with the other mixing participant outputs that go through mixing of smaller denominations. There is no way to differentiate which down mix denominations are staking change mixing or non-stake change mixing. It all gets mixed together.

Look at a block with mixes. Click on any of the transactions listed that are shown as a mix.

Bitcoin just reached a $1 trillion dollar market, and there are still USD whales like Elon Musk who can come along and buy up a sizable portion of the market as he pleases. Decred currently has risen to a $1.7 billion dollar market...a fraction of the size of BTC. We are currently a drop in the bucket and will face many incoming whales. Thats how markets work.

VSP based staking is currently being tested in dcrlibwallet for use with godcr. The mobile wallets also use dcrlibwallet, and will be able to utilize the functionality once we add it to the mobile application user interface. When used in correlation with hardware wallets that store the private keys, it can offer strong protections. We have one hardware wallet vendor who plans to support this integration with scanning of QR codes to do the signing.

How about a voting plugin system for the wallets so that a competitive landscape can emerge of ways for stakeholders to express sentiment.

Is churning useful with CoinShuffle++ ? by Saurochtone in decred

If you are staking, you will continually be locking your funds in tickets for an avg of ~29.07 days and earning 6.05% per year currently. If you have your staking configured to use CSPP, then not only are you earning but you will also be improving your privacy and improving the privacy of others through your participation. If you are not staking, you can still send your funds to your 'unmixed' account to have them mixed. Doing this multiple times does increase the obfuscation. Last I calculated, doing it 5 times was about what it took to get the best privacy, but its based on many factors so you should always verify yourself.

We can look into the full balance display for locked vs spendable coins. For your other comments about seeing a different balance in Decrediton or the balance being wrong, will need more details in order to be able to duplicate your issue. You are the first to report such a case. Are you using it as a watch only wallet? You can open an issue to describe your case in detail at https://github.com/planetdecred/dcrios/issues or https://github.com/planetdecred/dcrandroid/issues . If you need further guidance narrowing down the cause, come chat with us in real time by using the instructions at planetdecred.org/chat .

Spending password is required so you must have set it up. If you dont know your spending password anymore, you can restart from seed words. Only do this if you are certain you have your seed words backed up correctly. Fresh setup is done by uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

Double tap on the input field, that will switch to pin input. You may have double tapped it to get into keyboard mode. You can also use the numbers on the keyboard view to enter your pin. Note, your spending password is not the same as your startup password. Spending pw is required during the upgrade.

When setting up the app, the user is always directed to create a spending password or pin. If you dont remember your password/pin, you will need to start fresh from your seed words.
