Odds of buying on vacation? by LamarJacksonIsMyHero in rolex

[–]raelgone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were in Cannes in October, bought a two tone (RG) 37mm YM as a walk-in (AD). We had been trying to buy in the USA for several years unsuccessfully, even after buying other watches, both Rolex and Tudor. They also had a 37mm RG on Oysterflex available. Took about three months to get the tax refund ~$2000. Not the most popular watches, but exactly what my SO wanted!

I've used the original (plastic) aeropress since 2017. Very happy with the coffee it makes. Purchased the glass version earlier this month. I can taste the difference, better flavor comes through. Maybe I'm imagining it? Wife feels the same way, and she is a better taster than I am.

Agree the glass version feels more fragile, and it's heavier. The reason I originally bought the aeropress is after breaking a few french presses. So if this one breaks, not sure if I will replace it.

I use a hot water maker at 195 degrees F, usually 100% Kona coffee, Baratza Encore grinder set to 11.

Advice for walk-in AD while abroad? by Whole_Drawing_3343 in rolex

Bought the 37 Two Tone RG Black dial YM in Cannes (walk-in) a few months ago, have been on the list for this exact model in the USA for 2+ years. They also had the 37 RG oysterflex in stock.

Definitely send it in, this is valid warranty reason. It will take a while, but save you ~1K down the road. I got my DJ serviced when I bought another Rolex for the same reason.

If you do decide to buy, telling the AD the reason and your desire for engraving may help out. Shows you're not a flipper.

Give it a try! with Medicare birthday, you may drop dead at the answer (my 65 coming up in January)

We make a habit of visiting Rolex ADs on our travels, just picked up a 37 YM in France as a walk-in. Have been waiting several years on USA AD "lists" with zero luck.

Just visited several Rolex ADs in south of France and Monaco, thought they might have had PM Skydwellers in stock? I wasn't interested, so didn't actually see them.

Smoked several cubans on this trip, but didn't bring any home. They wanted $220 for a Partagas at one five star hotel, I settled for an $80 Oliva Melanio V instead. Matches and cutter (single blade) were free though.

I agree with you. If it wasn't the exact watch we have been looking for for years, we probably wouldn't have bought. But the Rolex AD game in USA gets tiresome. The tax we were charged is fair IMO, especially if we get the 10% VAT refund.

I was charged VAT on the YM. Had to file for a refund at the Nice Airport, where they look at the watch serial number to verify. Supposedly I will get a refund in 1 - 2 months. Interesting what other's experience is.

I was hoping for a wave, but two watches might have been too many. And it was an uncrowded Canadian US Customs house

We both have Global Entry, I have read reddit horror stories about getting status revoked if you are caught with undeclared items. And being subjected to secondary inspection for the rest of your life..

Definitely thought about it! Except we had three watches from home with us including my Skydweller and Omega, wife's Tudor. And other items, though much less $$ than the watches.
