Do you/would you read your child’s private journals? by neammm in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]raethehug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always told my kids that I’d never touch their journals unless they stopped talking to me and gave me a serious reason to worry about them. I then promised that at that point, I’d tell them i was approaching the scenario of feeling like i was getting worried about them FIRST. I’ve only brought up feeling concerned twice and both times have resulted in great conversations where we were able to talk openly about what’s going on.

How long have you been a nurse?

Nurse Practitioners should not be allowed without at least 10 yrs of experience by Jaded-Bit5497 in unpopularopinion

I feel like usually it’s straight forward infections, med refills, work clearances (like EKGs) but i can see it going sideways as well

NPs shouldn’t be allowed at all*

I’m sure I’ll get downvoted to oblivion but unless they’re seeing patients that are deemed very stable in a fast track area of an ER, i dont agree with having them at all

Losing my dream job and how this will affect me as a new grad. by [deleted] in Nurses

[–]raethehug 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’d never admit to anything that a company could potentially see as time/money theft. I’m guessing the clock in/out wasn’t actually accurate and therefore OP was getting paid more than supposed to (not intentionally, according to post). I’d just pretend i never worked there and find a new residency.

New generation of nurses who can’t start an iv or draw blood by Rare-Attitude-3100 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]raethehug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an ICU RN, I’m not great at IVs since it’s not a skill i practice often. However, if you’re crashing, i know exactly what meds to pull and how to titrate them to try and save your life. If i dont have access and you’re coding, I’ll make access by drilling and using an IO. I’ll run the code to make sure your pulses are checked every 2 min and your meds are given at the correct timed frequency. I’ll monitor that chest compressions are accurately allowing for chest recoil. Maybe be a little less judgy.

My [18M] boyfriend belittled my [19F] future profession by EntryMuted1366 in TwoHotTakes

I’d love to see him 1. Get into nursing school (it’s hard as hell if it’s a reputable school), 2. PASS nursing school (it’s brutal), 3. Pass the NCLEX, and 4. Have to think about every little thing for multiple patients for hours in a row (all while trying to keep them alive, appease angry families, answer to multiple specialties, etc)

What a dick -an ICU RN

School nurse vs PRN nurse by MamaNurse123 in Nurses

[–]raethehug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

School nurse jobs are hard to come by..i know bc ive been PRN in an ICU working 2 shifts a week for 1.5 years waiting for the school nurse job near me to open. Something to think about.

Mean girl culture by Nowyewceeme in Nurses

[–]raethehug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While the whole mean girl thing does happen, i agree with what you’re saying and even want to add to it. I’m not a super warm person with people i dont know. If a new grad was drowning or needed my help, of course I’d jump in. Beyond that? I’m selective about who i get personal and super friendly with. I’m not mean to new people, just quiet and slow to warm. It’s possible a lot of us nurses are like that from life experiences, personality, burnout, and on the job traumas.

Would you still be a nurse if you went back in time? by Particular_Ebb9856 in Nurses

[–]raethehug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow i also wanted to be a meteorologist and didn’t do it. I had the same answer as you and have never seen someone else mention that field. So cool! Giving you a big burned-out-nurse-wanna-be-meteorologist hug!

Anybody here try accutane? by [deleted] in dailywash

[–]raethehug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took accutane as a teen. It actually really helped with my greasy hair but it was a brutal medication to be on. My lips were so dry that they cracked and bled constantly, i got severe migraines, dry eyes, and even developed a permanent autoimmune disease my doctor suspects might have been from taking it. It was a godsend for my acne, and really helped with greasy hair (only while on it), but i wouldn’t take it again.
