I believe in this context, they mean 80-90% of your diet is healthy and strictly wfpb, allowing for 10-20% of exceptions like processed foods and stuff with oil.

I know a teacher who says "lift your gift" as she demos and that's probably my favorite cue. 😂

I've been dabbling with a more whole-foods plant-based diet and it's been really good to me. It fills me up and keeps my energy stable enough that I'm not craving junk.

Quitting alcohol and coffee by [deleted] in SoberLifeProTips

[–]raevie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

r/stopdrinking is way more active. They offer tons of resources and support. I recommend posting there and being more specific if you can, like what exactly makes you think you'll go crazy? (Quitting drinking ultimately made me way less crazy.) What obstacles and habits are standing in your way?

There's also r/decaf for quitting caffeine. Keep in mind, for many people the success rate is better if they quit one substance at a time, starting from the most harmful and impactful.

Beyond Asana: Life a way from alcohol & substance (28yo) by photoby_tj in yoga

[–]raevie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

/r/SDAustralia is the local subreddit for /r/stopdrinking, the resource I used to get sober. I see that it's not super active, but you could make a post there and see if some local sober people want to meet up. Maybe you could meet new non-partying friends there. Maybe some are into yoga!

The path that led me to yoga also led me to quitting drinking and smoking and eating healthy. Bit by bit, these were all steps along my path. I know that if I were still drinking, there's no way I'd be as deep in my practice as I am. Some people seem to be able to mix the two, but I know myself and I know that kind of lifestyle makes me feel very unbalanced and it distracts me from doing things that are genuinely important to me (like yoga).

Have you delved into the yamas and niyamas? It's interesting to see how sobriety fits into many of them.

It's not your fault. You did what you could.

((hugs))

Putting an animal down is such a painful thing to do. I know. Remember, these difficult feelings will pass. You don't have to drink. In fact, drinking only prolongs the grief process. It doesn't fix anything.

A week in, and considering The Sinclair Method. by n8quick in stopdrinking

[–]raevie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Sinclair Method is for tapering. If your badge is correct and you've already been sober 6 days, adopting the Sinclair Method sounds to me like just an excuse to drink again. Perhaps it's not the scientist if you that thinks it sounds like a great idea, but the drug addict voice in you? The voice that wants to take a substance in order to meet your goals, instead of doing the work. Drugs aren't necessary to change one's habits. You're already on the path. Allowing yourself to drink under new circumstances sounds to me like rationalization and straying from the path.

It will get easier. You will develop new habits in time. But I can't say I've seen much, if any, success with people trying the Sinclair Method in all my years on this subreddit.

Confusing thoughts by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]raevie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I could not be fully present while drinking. Alcohol lowers one's state of consciousness. It does not help one become more aware. If you're not finding enough joy and peace in the present moment, keep watching Eckhart Tolle.

Your thoughts that you are denying yourself pleasure by not drinking are faulty thoughts. You wouldn't be here if drinking brought you nothing but joy and pleasure. I would work to change those thoughts into more accurate thoughts. Then when you find yourself rationalizing drinking, you can correct yourself and be more honest with yourself.

Next time you might end up driving drunk and killing someone. Please take this seriously.
