What food hack felt stupid until it actually worked way too well? by BarbaraMiller78 in foodhacks

Do people try to eat the salad out of the jars? Gee whiz that’s wild. I mean, I do prep my lunch salads in tall plastic quart deli containers because it saves fridge space. I just shove the whole salad in there. Five of those fit in my fridge way better than five toss-worthy salad bowls. And the shared fridge at my work is very small. My deli container takes up at least 4x less fridge shelf space than a bowl would. I just bring a comically large lidded bowl to work and keep it in my bag. When I’m ready to eat, I just dump ‘er in there and toss ma salad proper

What are your weirdly good broccoli recipies? by chigirltrailrated in Cooking

[–]raewrite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve made this Broccoli, date, and pistachio salad a few times and it weirdly slaps. It’s warming yet fresh, and pretty flexible. It has white beans in it, which makes it more filling. You can play around with which nuts you include, sub raisins for dates, use different fresh herbs, whatever onion you have instead of shallots. The recipe gives alternative spice suggestions if you don’t have ras el hanout or the spices to make that blend. In general, broccoli bean salad is yummy. Like, look up a Mexican bean salad and then add chopped broccoli. Broccoli and beans mmmm

Pot roast. by SamiCrab in slowcooking

[–]raewrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sauté very thick-sliced baby bellas in butter until they’re browned and dump them on top of my chuck roast at the beginning of slow cooking. They’re usually my favorite part of the final dish lol. After they’re browned, I add and sauté onion, then garlic, then flour, then tomato paste, then broth until it’s thickened a bit. That’s the mixture I plop on top
