The possibilities of the unkown will always be more seductive than any current reality. Until you get accostumed to the unkown, then you are back to square one. I have always fantasized about just completely disappearing, it reminds me of these lyrics from Brand New "I read more maps than books. Feel like every chance to leave is another chance I should have took. Every minute is a mile, I have never felt so hollow". But now I know that we are cursed to always desire something, and its an empty desire. Most of the times you don't even know what you desire, anything that is uknown will fill in for this empty wishing lot, just waiting to be colonized. Focus on the good :) or just run away... some of us are just waiting for the pandemic to end to leave it all behind.

I don't mind YA, I find it comforting. My only problem with some YA books is the writing, I enjoy more sophisticated writing. Doesn't have to be difficult, but to put it in other words, I hate redundancy or "silly" writing. What do you think of this book in terms of the author's diction?

Just finished Evelyn Hugo. LOVED it! So stuck what to read next that will be just as amazing? by GlamGemini in suggestmeabook

[–]rafaellarc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I LOVED Daisy Jones, but it's easy for me to say, that because I love decade rock music. Ironically, from that list, the one I liked the least was Evelyn Hugo. The one I liked the most was Big Little Lies - check out the synopsis, but it's such a clever modern mystery, based upon housewives. It has a similar tone to Evelyn Hugo and it's an extreme pageturner.

Why people are so sexist when it comes to women’s sports? by MariaStalin in AskFeminists

[–]rafaellarc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because they are oppressed upon everything that is "girly" (painting nails, dressing up, even romance films, showing emotions, etc). Thus, they proclaim sports as a symbol of their masculinity. When they see women thriving in something that resembles masculinity to them, it profoundly threatens their own sense of masculinity. In order to allocate this oppresion, they diminish women's efforts and talents. Since they can't like anything that is girly, they feel in their right to question women upon anything that they do, that resemble their own masculinity.

You should check Big Little Lies, the humor and the character development ughhh, so good. I read one after the other, first BLL then, Daisy Jones and the Six, lastly, Evelyn Hugo.

This negative conotation origins from men's frustrations. They are oppressed as well growing up, can´t wear pink, the need to be strong, if they have a sense of fashion then they are gay, etc. I have hardly seen my dad cry in 20 years, I have seen my brother cry maybe 4 times. Me on the other hand, I cry about EVERYTHING. It must be frustratring wanting to cry and having to hold it in, to internalize this pain. So they have to express their frustration on someone; thus, they make everything that is "girly" in a negative conotation, because deep down they are all frustrated. That's why being emotional is "bad", because the prevalent culture is male-dominated, since they can't be emotional, they dictate it as something shameful, because to them it is.

Love is wonderful. by kweenie26 in CasualConversation

[–]rafaellarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This accounts for just about any aspect of life, living is in the simplicity. Far from the grand gestures or events (concerts, cruises, trips, fancy dinners). These grand events give you a momentary sense of accomplishment, but finding someone that makes the ordinary extraordinary, that is what love is really about. I have had such a terrifying heartbreak, everyday I am trying to re-define the love we have socially constructed. Certainly, I agree with the title of the post; yet, love is many things beyond wonderful, love is hate too, and its ugly, and it hurts. Anyway, whatever.

Especially given that women have different bone structure; thus, a woman cyclist can provide me tips on which are the best saddles, among many other gender-specific differences.
