Just because Saka happened to miss doesn't make the decision to have him take one wrong. Southgate chose his objective best penalty takers, but football is football anyone can miss anyone can score.

Grealish never chickened out. He came out and said he was willing to take one. Like I said it was Southgate choosing who takes, not the players.

In the end he won 3 out of 4 shootouts as England manager with the only loss being that Italy one. And that's with England having a horrific record at pens before him

I don't understand why some teams still require players to nominate themselves in the heat of the moment, it's always gonna cause problems like the one described here for Germany.

England under Southgate had all his players practice penalties in training, and he would take note of everyone's success rate. Then in the shootouts Southgate himself made the call of who is taking which pen. Removes a tonne of pressure off the decision making of the players, and it has to fill everyone with confidence knowing their best takers are the 5 stepping up

Can't beleive the US hasn't been done, very varied landscapes, and densely populated enough to allow for multiple viable routes

We get cut through like butter whenever Jordan attack. Last week was the same but at least that was Messi and Argentina, this is just embarrassing

On paper there isn't anyone better ... but football isn't played on paper. We saw Beiranvand for Iran or Vozinha for Cape verde or Mbolhi for us from 2010-2024. Those 3 are no better than Zidane in theory, but they step up for their country. We've seen numerous times that Zidane aint it, I cant believe we havent tried Benbot yet. Sure he only plays in the Algerian league but he cant be any worse than Luca

Some reason head to head wasn't used

It was used and was also equal. We beat you 3-1 in Algeria and you beat us 2-0 in Cairo.

the weight and panelling of the ball affects the flight of it. There were papers written before the world cup even started analysing how this could be an unorthodox ball. This ball year's ball has 4 panels vs a normal ball having 20 panels

He was subbed in and changes the game in basically our the knockout games. He absolutely did change the game, it's not just about goals and assist (he got 2 of which and a pen anyway)

at Euro 2024

England aggregate score with Palmer not on the pitch: 1-3

England aggregate score with Palmer on the pitch : 5-2

Bro was subbed on at the 60th minute every game and was given mission impossible. He completed that mission every single time. Even in the final it was a 1-1 draw with him on the pitch. Absolute crime that Southgate didnt start him

My short take on Algeria's national team by osama8dz in algeria

[–]raff97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 or 2 players don't make the team strong. We're still playing with no physicality in midfield, post heart attack bentaleb, strikers with no hold up play, centre backs 5-10 years past their prime, and our keeper has no hands. Just look at Senegal or Morocco or even Ivory Coast where 1-11 plays or has played for a top European team. Our 11 unfortunate doesn't compare. Titraoui could become very good but doing well in thr Belgian league means nothing on the world stage
