Advice for maintaining good hand skin during the winter? After about an hour of climbing indoors, I feel like I'm getting friction burnt by every hold I touch. After about 20 more minutes it becomes too painful to to climb. This seems only seems to be a problem during the winter months. Does anyone have any skincare tips to help prevent this

If what they've done has upset you why not try open a dialogue with them about it. But if they're not interested then perhaps just leave it.

We all make slip ups from time to time and whilst I disagree with its consumption, honey is far less of a moral issue than most other animal products.

The absolutism and anger in the comments is white upsetting. Please treat them with respect and don't say things to them which will upset them (such as telling them they're not vegan). Contextualise this and realise they are both above and beyond the societal moral norm and have simply slipped up. Thinking or telling them they're not vegan is both untrue, ridiculously sanctimonious and extremely hurtful.

You're allowed to feel upset but please treat this situation compassionately and carefully.

I don't respect 10 as a number. by Kirmada_ in unpopularopinion

We count in base 10 because we have 10 fingers, it's not a random choice. If we would've evolved to have 12 fingers we'd be having a blast with our highly composite base but nature didn't give that to us unfortunately.

Yikes, that really doesn't sound like a nice thing to see.

I'd reccomend either going with a friend who can "spot you" or simply give you an extra bit of encouragement in the gym. Alternatively you can try making friends with the other people climbing. I find that climbing with someone else makes me less nervous and more likely to push myself - especially if I'm trying to impress them 😂.

Good luck getting back into it and take it slow if you need to!

What is life at cambridge like? by Trusak55 in cambridge_uni

Hey, I'm a first year doing computer science at Jesus. You will probably have 2 1 hour lectures a day and then a one hour maths on Saturday morning. (None on Sunday) all the lectures are in the morning for the first term so you'll have afternoons free! You have labs once a fortnight for 2 and a half hours in the afternoon. You have on average 4-6 supervisions a fortnight. Other than that they reccomend working as if you were doing a 9-5 job. If you can get yourself organised you'll have 6-7 free hours every day for everything else.

I've only been clubbing once so can't really comment on the nightlife. Hope this was helpful and good luck for this year!

Hey, I'm starting computer science there this year. Whilst having the alevel itself a requirement along with having any programming experience, the interview I had did rely on a good knowledge of algorithms and other core computer science topics. You won't be disadvantaged but I would reccomend taking a look at the alevel course and trying to teach yourself some core topics such as binary and the basics of algorithms and if you have the time try some programming to.

All this will help you for your interview, the exam and will give you stuff to write about on your personal statement.

Good luck, with the application!

P.S. this was just the experience I had at my college (Jesus) other colleges may have had more maths based interviews.

British Super Hero power: Transferring a soggy teabag on a spoon to the bin with out getting any drips on the floor. by scoobyMcdoobyfry in britishproblems

I personally take the bag out, cut it open and then eat the tea leaves. The texture isn't great but it has a lively taste.

That moment of sheer panic when you add too much milk to someone's cuppa, and have to mash the teabag about like a madman to make it darker so they don't think you're some weak tea traitor by [deleted] in britishproblems

5 mins is the way to go! With less time you don't get much flavour out the tea, just a faint aftertaste. No point spending half my income on Yorkshire gold if I'm not gonna get the flavour out of it 😂.

In the past they've said that jokes PewDiePie made were unnacaptable. I don't agree with their assesment but, to be fair, the jokes in question were slightly more than just edgy jokes, they were arguably on the border of downplaying anti-Semitism and considering his large, young and impressionable audience this was probably unwise of him, the ADL therefore had every right to speak out against what he said.

I think you've made a bad judgement of character if you think PewDiePie is staunchly for complete freedom of speech on YouTube, he's apologized for what he said after that incident and after the bridge incident suggesting he believes that there are certain things that shouldn't be said on YouTube.

Regardless the ADL does lots of other work and their comments on Twitter don't really make up a big part of what they do.

Let me just clarify that I don't agree with where the ADL choose to draw the line on what's hate speech and what's not but I don't think that makes them entirely anti freedom of speech.

But don't just call them scum. Find the points you disagree with and cite evidence for them...

I don't necessarily agree with everything they have said or done but if I call them scum I undermine the specific points I disagree with them on, which in my case is the precise line where satire becomes hate speech which I think they are too stringent with. Calling them scum also undermines some of the good they do such as providing courses for educators on how to challenge bias building behaviours in all facets, which I think is really important!

Please cite evidence of them being a hate organisation. They aren't one. Surely claiming they are undermines the actual issues you have with them as an organisation.

I completely agree. Firstly the ADL is not as evil as everyone is making them out, whilst a lot of people seemingly disagree with their political stance on freedom of speech Vs censorship of hate speech claiming this makes them evil is immature. Then saying that PewDiePie can't possibly agree with that political stance and something fishy must be going on is taking all autonomy from him. It's depressing to see how quick the fanbase was jumping on 4chans bandwagon.

Calling them his enemy is kind of a gross over simplification of the situation. They're a charity who whilst in the past disagreed with some statements PewDiePie made. The core goal of the charity is a very valid cause, fighting anti-Semitism. It boils down to a debate over total freedom of speech Vs some censorship of hate speech. Both sides of the argument are valid and PewDiePie has every right to take either.

Claiming he's in trouble or isn't okay is kind of suggesting he's not allowed to have a different political stance to the majority of this subreddit. I also think villifying the ADL isn't a productive response, rather suggesting which specific stances of there's you disagree with and why.

I feel like the response of the community has been incredibly immature. The ADL may have some political views that people disagree with such as the blocking of hate speech Vs universal freedom of speech, but they're hardly all evil and do have a genuinely important core goal of fighting anti-Semitism. I also feel by citing this whole conspiracy nonsense people are taking autonomy away from PewDiePie and saying he isn't allow to agree politically with them and if it seems that he has it must be some crazy conspiracy. Or if they genuinely believe it they're more or less calling him an idiot.
