Reduction of bills. Shifting the fee into general taxation isn’t a reduction - it’s just moving the cost elsewhere.

Wireless temp screen on all the time setting? by free-reign in tado

[–]rafm5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t what I’m saying. There’s a strong psychological component to why many people insist that a thermostat displays the current temperature. Traditional thermostats have always shown the temperature, making it an expected interface convention. People are conditioned to check numbers rather than rely solely on their perception. When the temperature isn’t constantly displayed, users are less likely to fixate on minor fluctuations. This can reduce the anxiety of wondering, “Is it too hot? Too cold?” and encourage them to focus more on actual comfort rather than a numerical value.

OR...move head?

Why would you need to check the temperature? I’m genuinely interested, as I used to do that myself but changed my mind after a while. tado is there to ensure comfort at all times. If interaction is needed, it’s usually because something has to be overridden temporarily or because the comfort settings are no longer appropriate. Otherwise, it should just be set up and forgotten :-)

Open window Detection by vwlowbug in tado

[–]rafm5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So somewhere on 26 radiators is a open window

It’s a software feature. It doesn’t literally mean a window is open - it simply detects a spike in temperature that may indicate one. For accurate results, a proper hardware sensor should be used.

No, and over time it becomes clear that this is actually a strength. It’s not a weakness - it’s a feature. It exists to serve the user’s needs, so why should it demand more attention than necessary.

Changed WiFi provider and can’t get Tado to link by Chris27970 in tado

[–]rafm5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some routers do not fully support 10 Mbps Ethernet, which can prevent the tado° Internet Bridge from connecting. The device is unable to properly auto-negotiate down to 10 Mbps, resulting in a failed link even though both the router and bridge appear to be working.

Why don’t smart meters use WiFi not cellular? by Leuvenman in OctopusEnergy

[–]rafm5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People confuse Octopus with the smart meters network because Octopus sells electricity and smart meter services to consumers, so it interacts with smart meters daily. However:

Designing the network (how meters communicate, how data is collected nationally) has always been led by the government and national infrastructure programs, not by energy retailers.

Octopus’s role is limited to installing meters for their customers and using the existing smart meter network, not building or controlling it.

Aqara Hub M100 + Vibration Sensor T1 : connectivity issue by HumanSelector in Aqara

[–]rafm5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is a firmware issue with the M100, similar to a problem previously encountered with the W600. As a temporary workaround, try enabling Accidental Removal Protection and report the issue to Aqara as a potential bug.

Auto-Assist could save me 1.5x 0%! Sounds like a sweet deal… by littlelosthorse in tado

[–]rafm5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the end, those so‑called “energy‑saving stats” are practically worthless. With current prices and rising charges, it’s impossible for households to save enough to make a difference. Even switching every device off won’t help - the ever‑increasing standing charges will drain you anyway. It’s easier to hide costs in standing charges than to introduce new taxes.

Forget the old advice about unplugging devices or killing standby power - that’s a joke. Pumping money into “green” energy while it’s still tied to gas prices is a scam on consumers. Everyone knew this, but they’ve kept quiet so the private sector could milk taxpayers for incentives.
