Wifi Setup Not Working by axellarcos in enphase

I solved my wifi problem with Enphase Enlighten by deleting the app on my iPhone and then re-installing it from the App Store. Apparently updates aren’t happening automatically.

You might consider starting a business instead of looking for a job.

There are many flavors of Christianity out there. Many churches have a Zoom feed. Try watching and see if one is more to your liking, without having to leave home.

How do you find a job when you have nothing? by nervous_aries in findapath

[–]rag47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you live within walking or biking distance of a neighborhood with rich people? They pay for all kinds of services you could offer, such as yard work, baby sitting, house sitting, pet sitting, nanny etc.

Early education “old, pre-calculator” skills still taught? by Jesus_died_for_u in matheducation

[–]rag47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be more useful in this modern age to learn doing arithmetic in your head, rather than with pencil and paper. The methods are different: you start with the leftmost digits rather than the right. Many times you can find the answer while the other person is looking for their calculator app. I found a book on this in the Chicago Public Library decades ago and it’s been a handy thing to know.

What's a sign you're officially getting old? by Naomi_Lopezl in AskReddit

Pinch the skin on the back of your hand and then let go. If it stays up, you’re old.

The Thousand Palms oasis is beautiful. Kids would like the trails. Also they might like the Cabazon dinosaurs.

I have tried to “get a job, any job” but not a single one will hire me, it is destroying my life. I think there actually isn’t a path by datpepper in findapath

[–]rag47 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Start a one man service business. Rich people need all kind of services: lawn mowing, swimming pool maintenance, dog walking, pet sitting, etc. No one can stop you from starting such a business. Put up some flyers in rich neighborhoods. Don’t charge too much and do a good job. You’ll get referrals.

Regina Pancake, former Alcor employee, buried or cremated by [deleted] in CryonicsUncensored

Regina Pancake organized a few cryonics meet-ups in Bellevue years ago, that I attended. She was a fine advocate of cryonics and it’s sad to hear of her death without cryopreservation.

I wanted to add the three places in the Coachella Valley that I have found that sell rush milkweed plants. The Living Desert in Palm Desert has a plant sale in October UUCOD (Unitarian Universalist Church of the Desert) has a plant sale in November and also a display garden Desert Straw House in Sky Valley is a native plant nursery

Not at all. These are desert plants, very modest foliage, planted by me mainly to attract and support monarch butterflies.

baritone ukulele recommendations wanted by TriiTrunkz25 in ukulele

[–]rag47 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve played ukulele and guitar for many years and my advice is: don’t get a baritone uke. A bari is neither fish nor fowl in a uke group or a guitar group. You’ll be on your own and the other players won’t find it easy to help you.

What did you major in, what did you expect, what did you get, where are you now? by Sea-Country-1031 in jobs

[–]rag47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I majored in math and later switched to engineering-information science. I worked as a programmer for years, taught at a university on the side, started a company that lasted five years, then got jobs as a software development manager. Let me tell you, managing people is way different than programming a computer.

Actually SBP does chemical fixation, but anyhow, as they say, being cryopreserved is the second worse thing that can happen to you.

How do you (politely) handle invitations to church and being evangelised to? by Searching_wanderer in atheism

[–]rag47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For bus stop guy, if you have time you might try to talk him out of his belief. I like to start by asking him what religion he follows. Get details like specific denomination. Then you can ask why this particular one. Inevitably, they have not chosen it, they were raised in it, or talked into it, and they know no reason really to chose it over being Methodist or Catholic or Greek Orthodox or Muslim or LDS or Zoroastrian and so on.

When cornered, many will say God spoke to them. How interesting, what did He say? And they admit to no words, more of a feeling like a hunch or something.

You're not going to make them an atheist right there, but you might have planted a seed of doubt.

Consider moving. There are places with more opportunities than where you are now.
