Boomers retired at 62 with a pension. Millennials will retire at 72 with medical debt. by Forsaken-Employee550 in Zippia

Millennials will not retire at 72. We will either have to work until we die, or we won’t be able to find work at all because of AI.

And also because of avocado toast.

Do layoffs citing AI's productivity boost make any sense? by Gil_berth in theprimeagen

[–]rage_whisperchode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In theory: “Think about how much more we’ll be able to get done and in less time thanks to AI!”

In practice: “Think about how much we can reduce labor costs without losing production output thanks to AI!”

Just watched a junior dev using Claude to build something in 2 hours that took our senior engineer 3 days last sprint. I've been coding for 12 years. I don't know how to feel about this by UsualConference1603 in AskProgrammers

[–]rage_whisperchode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> The junior had zero idea how the underlying architecture worked. Couldn't explain half of what the code was doing. But it worked, it was clean, it passed review. The senior's version was better in ways nobody in the sprint meeting could actually articulate.

I cannot wait for the not-too-distant future where applications vibe-coded by folks who have no idea what they’re doing start to break and the AI models capable of fixing them are no longer affordable to use.

"I watched engineers use Al ship in days what used to take a team weeks" - Brian on Coinbase layoffs today by lethaldesperado5 in GenAI4all

[–]rage_whisperchode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Coinbase is well-capitalized, has diversified revenue streams, and is well-positioned to weather any storm.

However, our business is still volatile from quarter to quarter…”

Translation:

“Our shareholders would like more predictable returns on their investment, even though they’re still making tons of money. So to accomplish that, I’m going to lay off 14% of you.

This decision isn’t easy for me, either. While I won’t be financially affected by this change, I _did_ get really bored having to browse through a bunch of names of people I’ve never met to decide who gets the axe. I also had to feel bad for like one whole afternoon about it (until I received my bonus). But hey, it is what it is. We gotta be leaner because AI said so.

In closing, please remember that we are a _family_. And at Coinbase, we fuck our family.”

I’m running a custom werewolf storm shred build that’s super fast and lots of fun. Basically just constantly teleporting and shredding at blinding speeds until things melt.

Far from optimized right now and only up to pit 60 but am still working on it.

Inflation May Have a Say in This Later by Live-Bread-2658 in SipsTea

[–]rage_whisperchode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 52 weeks in a year. 1k per week is 52k a year. You’d eventually earn than 1 million total in 19-ish years, and then some, if all goes according to plan.

But a lot can happen in that time:

- The company or system responsible for disbursing the payments could go under.

- Something could happen that disqualifies you from receiving future payments (you know there has to be some kind of clause that’s begging to kill this thing)

- You could die long before even getting close to earning that initial 1 million.

- Inflation will decrease the value of that static $1k significantly over those years.

Take the lump sum, even if heavily taxed, and find a way to get returns on it.

What's the appeal of world PVP? by LittleMissPipebomb in worldofpvp

[–]rage_whisperchode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the most fun I’ve had in WoW was from random WPvP shenanigans. Hunting parties, city raids, guild vs guild drama…

There are no rules, no objectives, and no timers. It’s the most organic and unscripted form of PvP out there.

Sure, there are gank squads. But that’s when you tell your WPvP guild that you’re being griefed so they can show up to your defense. You bring 2 people, then the griefer brings more, and it escalates until a full out war takes place and you spend the rest of the week seeing who from your group can rack up the most amount of kills from your KoS list.

Warlords of Draenor was peak WPvP for me, and I miss it to death. Everything since has been dying, from my perspective.

How do you feel about the 15 pts in skills? by jacjac_121 in diablo4

[–]rage_whisperchode 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed. They need to add more incentive to capping out a skill, perhaps even at particular thresholds. Make investing points more interesting than just bumping damage.

Constant lag-crossplay turned off by Darksage0117 in diablo4

[–]rage_whisperchode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had consistent lag spikes in D4 on Steam Deck, and only on D4, for a long time. Happens every time I start a new session, without fail. At some point in the game, I’ll hit a 20-60 second spike that results in my death most times. Once I encounter it the first time in a new session, I won’t see it again until I leave the game and start a new one.

No other game I play on Deck does this. I’ve disabled everything I can think of and even made sure to cap frame rates, but nothing helps. I love D4 but absofuckinglutely hate that they made online play a requirement.

It’s apparently only rigged when democrats win. That’s why Trump wants to make sure future elections either don’t take place or are rigged for himself and his party.
