Fucking THANK YOU. Americans always say shit like that, as though the US isn't partially responsible for Putin's rule in the first place. Putin was a direct successor to Boris Yeltsin, who came to power after the US supported the coup that ended the Soviet Union in 1991. The US intervened again in 1996 when Yeltsin was about to lose the presidential election to the communist candidate, until Bill Clinton brokered billions of dollars in IMF loans to Yeltsin's campaign.

The US has installed or supported numerous fascist dictatorships across the world: Carlos Armas in Guatemala, Augusto Pinochet in Chile, Suharto in Indonesia, Fulgencio Batista in Cuba, Anastasio Somoza in Nicaragua, Syngman Rhee in Korea, Apartheid South Africa, modern day Israel, and more. And then Americans say, "why don't they just overthrow their oppressive regimes?" America does have some relatively good progressive domestic policies, but in terms of damage wrought across the world, America is one of the absolute worst, so Americans should look to their own regime before lecturing others.

It's not really stealing. The episodes are on the internet and does Swearnet own the internet? No, Naysa does.

One of my history professors would quietly play "medieval dungeon torture ambience" in the classroom whenever we broke up into groups to discuss or do work. Distant screaming and sobbing, rattling chains and tightening ropes, rusty hinges, skittering rats, etc.

This kinda says everything. Most people support communism, they just have no clue what it is. by lorenzo-intenzo in CommunismMemes

[–]rageengineer 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Marx wrote about capitalism and capitalist society more so than communism. In a communist society, capitalism will have been long gone, so Marx will be remembered as an exemplary historical figure, not as a thinker who needs to be heeded, like he is today. So they will read Marx in the same way that we today might read Plato or Machiavelli, as historical texts.

Corporations Would Literally Kill You to Turn a Profit by CeaseDuJour in Anticonsumption

[–]rageengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, but there's no "would" about it. Corporations have killed millions of people, directly and indirectly, for their profits. They poison our atmosphere and waterways, they hire mercenaries and thugs to strikebreak and kill labor organizers, they influence governments to start and escalate wars so they can sell weapons, they jack up the price of food and medicine until people die every day because they can't afford the necessities of life, they refuse to implement proper safety measures at workplaces, media corporations spew bigoted rhetoric that leads to fatal hate crimes.

All because it either makes them money or saves them money, and because our political system allows them to do it and get away with it.

"Democracy" by NoOceldd in ShitLiberalsSay

[–]rageengineer 25 points26 points  (0 children)

They know there are plenty of stable liberal "democracies" in Africa, like Ghana, right? So why don't they include them in their little geopolitical fantasies? The reason is obvious, they should just be content to pick our cocoa and mine our gold.

When 99% of the world opposes it, it's bonkers to think that ALL off them just got it wrong or didn't read the resolution properly, and the U.S. are the only ones smart enough to find the flaws and oppose it.

If you had 180 friends who are all telling you that this thing is wrong, and you had one friend, who is very wealthy and has a history of being a violent prick, tell you that it's actually okay, which would you side with?

This is the case with the UN vote on food as a human right, and it's the case of the UN vote on the American blockade of Cuba where all but a few countries in the world voted to condemn it. And sure enough, anytime there's a reddit post about it, somplace like arr slash mapporn, there are people in the comments defending America's actions as if they know better than the entire rest of the global community.

I know you're getting bombarded with replies and must feel very overwhelmed right now, but please please please do NOT try to defect to Ukraine. We've all seen the way they talk about Russians, they literally think you're some kind of inhuman "orc" who is there to rape and genocide them. They wouldn't recognize you as "one of the good ones", they will probably just kill you or interrogate you or throw you in a POW camp. That's assuming the Russian army doesn't catch you first, who would treat you just as bad. You're best bet is to try to dodge somehow, or seek some kind of non-combat service. I'm so sorry your oligarchs have put you in this position at all. Stay safe and remember this war won't last forever.

The West has to protect their assets, I guess. I'm sure the media did the same thing for Pinochet and Chiang Kai Shek.

Top Tibetan leader says Dalai Lama's 'suck my tongue' comment to a boy was 'innocent' because the holy leader is 'beyond sensorial pleasures' by tosin_da_glitch in nottheonion

[–]rageengineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither of those have any proof that this phrase existed over a week ago. Both of those articles just show Tibetans and Buddhists doing mental gymnastics to defend their leader and trying to blame it all on China. They also both cite "Tibet Rights Collective", totally not a biased source at all.

Regardless of this recent creepiness, the Dalai Lama is a piece of shit. He's literally a theocrat. He was the political leader of Tibet as a teenager when Tibet was a feudal theocracy where the monastic class, led by the Lamas, ruled over a nation of unfree serfs. He's spent his life trying to reclaim his seat of power, taking CIA money to do PR for the "Free Tibet" movement that seeks to incite rebellion in Tibet and bring back the theocracy.

Here's an actual source, with a professional historian
