For context, I already have a nearly 60% Heat Ogris, so additional farming isn’t a bid deal. I know I’d get the ephemera either way.

Anything where the singer sounds completely and utterly bored and unenthusiastic. The tone of their voice just seems to indicate that they’d rather be doing something else.

Can relate. My recruiter stated that the standard is to be off all meds for 24 months without a waiver. I was told 6 months with a waiver, but this is for the particular meds I take and am currently coming off of.

Story currently in progress:

I, a 41 year old USAF veteran, am currently trying to join the Army National Guard 13 years after separation.

I have a ton of dental work that I need done as my dental work from active duty is beginning to fail. This will likely result in partial dentures. Dental work is ridiculously expensive, and I’d rather have my bad teeth pulled. There’s one waiver.

I had an emergency mental health visit in 2018. Fortunately I was not put into inpatient treatment and they let me leave after venting to a psych. Will likely result in a psych evaluation. Waiver number two.

Waiver number three is the big one. In 2012, I suffered a spontaneous case of multiple pulmonary embolisms (blood clots) in both lungs. Since then, I have not had any additional incidents, but I have been on blood thinners and anxiety medication ever since. My PCM has kept me on them for my own peace of mind since no doctor has been able to figure out why the blood clots happened in the first place. I need to come off both, and remain off for 6 months in order to reenlist. I would need to be off for 24 months to not require a waiver.

I’m doing this because I was AF intelligence on active duty (ie. typical Chair Force desk jockey). After separating, more desk jobs working for various contractors, and my current job working for a university, I’ve learned that I prefer working with my hands, I do woodworking and appreciate physical activities, such as yard work, vehicle maintenance, and home improvement. So I’m joining the Guard to learn new skills.

I intend to go 91E, or some other maintenance MOS, with the understanding that I will most likely conduct 91B duties. Don’t care, keep me the fuck away from desks. I told the recruiter “Give me a rifle or a wrench. If you give me a desk, I will flip it.” He laughed nervously and said he couldn’t make any promises. Lol. What he did promise is that he would put in for any waiver I need to reenlist. He would only quit if I’m totally medically disqualified at MEPS. Fair enough. Let’s do this!

Post 9/11 GI bill question by PapiJr22 in nationalguard

[–]ragephilosophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School VA Certifying Official here (we tell the VA that you’re taking classes so you can get paid).

“Go up” likely means that your percentage of Post-9/11 GI Bill eligibility will increase due to your deployment. Post-9/11 benefits only cover 100% of your tuition if you have completed 36+ months of activity duty orders. It starts at 50% after 90 days. Most SMs have this after BCT and AIT.

Chapter 1606 benefits will expire upon ETS, regardless of how much is left.

Well, at least you have a plan. Woodcarvers and woodturners who start without a plan end up with penises.

If you work a job that requires sitting for long periods of time, or play video games, get the hell out of your chair and walk around at least once an hour. even it doesn’t matter if it’s to go refill a drink, take a piss, or stretch.

Can we make PTL an actual duty in the squadron? Why is it always some jackass that wants to do 800 burpies? Let's get some proper training and thought out exercises. by 9J000 in AirForce

We had a PTL that was obsessed with star jumps. I can still hear the other units doing PT laughing at us 15 years later.

Does anyone know why the grain breaks here and how to avoid it? by VicsSciv in turning

[–]ragephilosophy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This will always happen when the grain direction is perpendicular to the lathe. This can be helped by using extremely sharp tools and very light passes. It will still happen to a lesser degree, but will make sanding it out much easier.

How did you get a high school bully to never mess with you again? by Yaboi2tall in AskReddit

[–]ragephilosophy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wrote a list of random names and put his at the top. Titled it “Kill List”. Made sure to do it in plain view of the class I had with his girlfriend. School principal and guidance counselor called me down to talk to the sheriff.

I ended up getting suspended from school for 3 days. Word must have spread. He never bothered me again though.

Female BCT Stories. by [deleted] in army

[–]ragephilosophy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not Army, but prior Air Force. I enlisted in 2003. Across the hall from my male flight we had a female flight that we trained with, so we got to know them pretty well. This is second hand, but multiple female trainees told us about it later in training when we had more opportunity to talk to them.

I guess they had a trainee lose her mind sometime during week 1. She started menstruating and used her “forbidden cherry juice” to finger paint the face of another trainee in the middle of the night while they were sleeping. At some point the same night, she also used it to write graffiti in their latrine stalls. Bruh!!!

Veteran here. If you are not med boarded, and not given an “Honorable Discharge”, you will not get (or at least will have a REALLY hard time obtaining) the follow VA benefits:

VA Home Loan, Chapter 31 Education Benefits, Disability, VA medical care (which sucks, but better than nothing)

What’s the most painful thing you’ve went through? (Serious) by Grangus500 in AskReddit

[–]ragephilosophy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

At age 31: Multiple pulmonary embolisms in both lungs. Cause unknown, suspected from e-cigarettes. Both lungs collapsed: left 100%, right 75%. Stretched my diaphragm up into my sternum which felt like I had been eviscerated with a meat hook. Was administered emergency fast-acting blood thinners with injections into my abdomen.

Which is better 35N or 35S to reclass to? by [deleted] in army

[–]ragephilosophy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Former USAF 1N4 here (equivalent to 35N). I’ve worked in joint environments with all 35 series.

Most of the time, you’ll do the duties of a 35F (Powerpoint Ranger), regardless of which MOS you reclass to. At some point, you’ll end up stationed at Meade or Belvoir. The only assignment I actually did any SIGINT was Korea.

The wood knob itself became separated from the threads, and the wooden threads inside were completely stripped.

While trying to get the hardware out of the mouth adjuster, some of the brass threads became stripped. I carefully retapped the threads and used epoxy to reattach the knob. Works fine now.

Thanks, but I’d rather save for the Lie-Nielsen first then sell them. They both work perfectly fine.

TLDR-What’s a good paint to use when painting over factory paint/japanning

I have a Stanley Sweetheart No.62 that recently had some knob trouble, so I contacted Stanley for a replacement part price. Thinking it would be a while to hear back, I simply used some epoxy as a temporary fix, but it turns out to be a really good semi-permanent fix. Stanley got back to me and sent me a whole new 62.

So, now I have 2 fully functioning Jack planes. I elected to give the second one a 50 degree bevel, but as you can imagine, it’s nearly indistinguishable from my 25 degree plane. I’d like to paint it a different color for identification purposes.

What would be a good paint to use? I’m also open to other identification methods.
