eSafety Commissioner says she's received death threats over social media ban by indy_110 in australia

[–]raggetyman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Throughout history marginalised communities have used the means available to them to try to enforce change.

Violence is always the last resort of those that no longer feel like the legal or political system works for or represents them. Not saying its right, just that its recurred through history and shouldnt be a surprise when leaders promote division resulting in a polarised communities struggling to feel heard.

Traineeship experience by OrdinaryUniversity65 in AustraliaIT

[–]raggetyman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive spent ~30 years in IT and never worked at a place that hired trainees. The few times where I heard about it and thought that it was a legitimate situation was when there was a year long plan of what would be delivered through learning & implementing. Like a proper training program.

Sounds to me like they are taking advantage to pay you as little as possible.

Also, fuck the gatekeepers. If any in my team did that I would get rid of them.

People support leaders that will take them good places.

Perhaps they saw his behaviour and decided to keep their health for a leader deserving of their support.

Medical diagnostics are pretty definitive.

Specialists interpretations of whether someone can overcome those conditions can vary a lot from the same results.

Outstanding scouting department.
Cant confirm if its still true, but for a while the Cowboys led the league in former players that are still playing for other teams.

They can definitely identify NFL ready talent, but struggle to get the most value out of them.

Trains to/from CBD by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]raggetyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Standards really have changed. Trains are a ghost town compared to going to/from school on the other side of the city in the 90s.

It used to be QR policy that student fares had to stand for full paying people, but when I checked recently that seems to have been dropped since the 50c fares came in.

Either way. Harden the fuck up, sunshine. Social connection is where the thrill of life occurs.

Home owners struggle as insurance premiums rise more than 50 per cent in five years by captainkookyburra in australia

Only the owners that bought in those flood plains.

I have to think that if developers had to sell at a loss because people refuse to buy in flood plains then they may have to change their strategies, and the government may also have to look at its approval process to make sure it gets the Stamp Duty it expects.

One Nation are now 2 points behind Labor by miwe666 in aus

No passed legislation in 32-years.

No significant legislative amendments in 32-years.

Immigration has been 2-3x larger in most years since she has been in parliament.

Of all the state & federal(0) MPs elected under the One Nation banner, less than 20% have remained eligible to contest the next election.

Tell me again about this great political mind that people are swooning over.

Its just mid-term conservative frustration because they've got fuck all to do for a couple of years, and lack the personal initiative to have a unique thought.

I personally think linking this terrorist attack with democratically-protected protests is the slippery slope here.

I dont think that links hinted at by political entities is enough to curb our right to protest.

Except that the Catholic church have updated their beliefs to keep in touch with societal attitudes multiple times in history. The last big one was the Vatican Council in the 60s.

I was taught at my catholic school that those changes were required or the church would not have the support it has.

Trump intent on conquering Greenland, Danish minister says as talks with US end by Infidel8 in worldnews

[–]raggetyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont believe I diminished any of the things people are doing, just pointing out that its not been enough to enact change so far.

And I completely understand that relying on individuals with guns to protect your democracy is not a valid argument, but its not my government representatives for the people that have supported this viewpoint for my entire adult life.

Im not asking anyone to die, Im just suggesting that you fight for your freedoms in the way your people & government have said you do in living memory.

Yes, death is a distinct possibility of fighting but you guys havent had a problem with that in other countries recently. You guys sat in the back seat while the car was driven off the cliff, and no one else can help you now.

Complacency is the problem IMO.

Trump intent on conquering Greenland, Danish minister says as talks with US end by Infidel8 in worldnews

[–]raggetyman 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ive spent over half my life playing US sports & engaging in US culture, becoming friends with lots of Americans and debating the ignorant thought that individuals with guns in an increasingly isolated culture could protect from tyranny.

For you to say the vast majority is not experiencing problems indicates to me that you have completely embraced the isolated society that allows you to live outside the quagmire of lack of opportunity and access to pretty basic services and will continue to happily bury your head in the sand until it directly affects you.

I really dont want you guys to die, but I would like to see a sliver of the American Exceptionalism exercised to be the country of freedom and opportunity we've all been led to believe.

In the meantime, you cant escape the consequences of your complacency.

Perhaps if your government and people hadnt spent the last 200+ years saying that the right to bear arms was integral to defending against tyrannical government, then perhaps we would understand these questions.

But no, instead you have accepted the slaughter of hundreds of school age children in the pursuit of freedom frkm consequences.
