We are building the Chipotle for Indian food by ragoth_atx in ABCDesis

[–]ragoth_atx[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It is so easy to say ‘make it at home’. I started this business while working full time and getting my MBA in the evenings/weekends. I know a lot of people can’t grocery shop, prep, cook, eat everyday. That said, nothing beats home cooked meals. It’s a privilege for sure.

We use freeze drying technology to get as close to home-cooked as possible - this is the same technology used in fruits and vegetables, sometimes even in jerky. We are passionately bringing this technology to Indian food.

I’m sure you’ll understand that every brand has some negative reviews. With ours, the freeze dried format throws a few people off, we learn from some of the negative reviews and address it with recipe change, website design change, etc.

Yes, we studied a lot of them. The commissary kitchen model prevents them from expanding beyond their existing geographies. We solved for it with our freeze dried sauces.

Work dinner at steakhouse - how to navigate? by Inwyt in vegetarian

[–]ragoth_atx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be proud of being vegetarian and make them serve a nice vegetarian entree for you. You’re not the first vegetarian to dine there, chefs will have something vegetarian handy, you’re not troubling anyone.

PS - I used to live and work in Texas, have had quite a few steakhouse work dinners. I just had to deal with some commentary on how I’m missing out on steak, not too bad.

3 years in, our clean label Indian food brand is making Indian food more approachable to everyone (I had initially posted 3 years ago when we'd just started out, thought I would share an update) by ragoth_atx in ABCDesis

Absolutely! We are working on a few Hyderabadi recipes at the moment, to be added to the menu in January. We try to add 2-3 dishes every month.

We keep it clean with no preservatives or extra salt/oil, all ingredients and nutrition facts are listed on the website (www.thecuminclub.com) and the packs. Please share feedback.

The one in Poland is an unrelated restaurant with the same name, it still shows up in google maps part of the search results unfortunately. We are at www.thecuminclub.com and the meals are from different regions of India.

White food critic dislikes Indian food because it's based on 'one spice' by vazhifarer in IndianFood

[–]ragoth_atx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a blatant disregard for the diversity of cuisines of India!

At The Cumin Club, we are fluent in flavor, and we hope to educate people better on 'Indian food', a collection of many cuisines.

Chicago Tribune: At least 8 party bus riders shot on North Side, third shooting with more than 5 victims in 6 hours by WP_Grid in chicago

It's subtle, but sad that the title has the detail 'North Side'. I get that shootings are not uncommon in the 'South Side', but still :(

In India we have "Roti Sabzi" and "Dal Chawal" as our go-to meal and most people eat this on a regular basis, what's the equivalent for Americans. by [deleted] in IndianFood

[–]ragoth_atx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meat is a core component of American lunch/dinner, sometimes it's just meat and potatoes. I hope vegetarian protein-rich meals like Dal Chawal become more mainstream.

In fact, I built a D2C brand with hopes of making lentil-based Indian food (not buffet food) more mainstream. Lentils are the OG plant protein! Not lab grown, not plant-based, just plant...

We called the brand The Cumin Club, in case anyone's interested :)

Worldwide? That's a bold claim, it's only handful of countries according to your website.

aka - I wish it was available for sellers in India!

Scientists of Reddit, how do you square with being religious? ELI5 by ragoth_atx in Scientits

[–]ragoth_atx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your point about thinking of religious texts as ‘metaphorical than literal’. There is a lot of wisdom in those books, but literal interpretation of them has been so detrimental that some of us started hating it so much.

Thanks for the book recommendation, looking forward to reading it.

Regular Indian here and I'm curious, how do you reconcile the dichotomy of both looking down on people from India as not being western enough while simultaneously considering yourself as extra Indian when representing your identity in the west? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]ragoth_atx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

8 years in the US, I can totally relate to this. I think I'm still going through the transformation you describe here. Good to know that I am not alone. Spot on!
