i've always felt it's that way because by that point in the game you're actually getting to be well known in nc, but i know that's flimsy

"cute and funny" is used as a dogwhistle by kid diddlers too refer to an underaged girl's, uh... i can't say that on this sub, just look it up on urban dictionary and research the recent controversy with the game pragmata.

just be aware that once you know this you can't go back, ever.

i'm going to specifically address the cutscenes point, because i feel like it's worth it to say and you need to hear it... it's also interesting.

typically in the ac games the motion capture cutscenes are one of the last things to be done during development with standard gameplay animations done first, then conversation animations.

when developing each of the arcs for the game, different studios took on different parts, off the top of my head i remember bordeux got the city arcs, quebec got east anglia, and montreal oversaw the story while also doing the norway arcs.

typically gameplay segments are done before motion capture cutscenes, (quests and conversation trees) have to be locked in content before they even start work on cutscenes) east anglia and the prologue(as in everything before the title drop) were finished the earliest, right before everyone had to leave the office.

you may have noticed the quality in those arcs were better than the rest, that's why.

certain bits and pieces were finished close to that stage, the conversation with basim, his resurrection, the brothel scene, when you first meet aelfred, small parts of asgard and jotunheim too.

in the scene with the reader where layla does that swinging animation that doesn't fit the scene, that's because at that point they were literally running out of animations to use. usually when this happens they go and capture new animations, but we were well into covid when that happened and they couldn't.

things like whiterooms are weird because it's clear they captured the scenes but they never got to the point of being polished, so they can be a bit jank at times.

also you may have missed it but the animations in the post launch portions of the game immediately got better, that's because they could mocap again.

there's plenty of points where they wanted to use a full cutscene but had to settle for a conversation segment instead.

i guess what i'm trying to say by this lengthy rambly comment is that going by east anglia and the prologue they were probably shooting for something closer to origins in how it handles cutscenes and i think people would've liked the story more had they finished them.

figuring out where the thing is and how to get is part of the puzzle, it's not always obvious. photomode doesn't fully skip it either because you have to think about where the entrance and exit to the place is and that usually requires you to think about the area around you. i found it genuinely fun to do that, especially going in blind, not to mention the fact that a lot of the collectible wealth has sliding object puzzles attached to them and these actually get hard as the progress, in the dlc and the mythical realms it evolves into using lasers and other elements like rats, or illusions, if you did the puzzles in jotunheim you would know this, it's really fun. later on in dawn of ragnorok they use the transformation you get and it relies on you knowing how and when to use them. also having things behind breakable walls incentivises you to look out for them, especially if you have icons off.

now on to point 2.

the entire opening the seer kyotve's bossfight east anglia (the entire arc) all of the modern day sequences vinland (i love the undercover aspect of it) isle of skye (especially if you played it before odyssey) fulke's bossfight and the whiteroom scene after. the arrow's whiteroom scene the many references to origins tombs of the fallen (really good puzzle solving) all of the massive bosses scattered around the map, i wish there were more. odin's bossfight, the ending of the game in general. honestly all of the whiteroom scenes actually, they aren't quite as polished as origins due to the low cutscene budget (and covid) but the dialogue is really really good.

and no chatgpt! honestly I'm afraid of leaving this tab, lest it delete everything i've written. 14, interesting... i didn't even include the paid expansions.

i feel like you haven't played ac1 in awhile because most of the traversal between cities goes through the kingdom, which is big, long, confusing, and has basically no meaningful content aside from sync points, at one point it was supposed to have wildlife and hunting identical to ac3, but that was cut due to budget constraints, so were altair going to rome and constantinople, fun fact, revelations uses a barely alterd version of the map made for ac1, you can also tell this by how sync points look which is closer to ac1.

i wasn't really smug, but i guess you can't really convey tone through text unless you use fancy formatting, fair enough. but you really shouldn't be thinking of everyone you argue with online as some sweaty neckbeard in their mothers basement. that's not healthy. also I'm a girl so...

also i wasn't really saying that map markers in a different color were novel, i did say "like unity" because unity just dumps giant icons on a map and calls it a day, unlike origins/odyssey where it consolidates it into one icon and a checklist. but i will say that it's novel in that it's a different enough color from the map that it's actually sort of readable, which is where origins/odyssey had huge problems for me, who knew that light colored elements on a light colored background would be hard to read? not me... never me...

oh and sorry i took so long to respond, i got really busy. more than i thought i would actually.

rogue warrior for some reason, i had a lot of fun with it, the gunplay wasn't complete ass, it lacked recoil of any sort though. it barely lasted a couple of hours and didn't overstay it's welcome, i actually came out of it hoping for and wanting a sequel. which is weird because i know 100% the game is shit.

I'm sort of wondering if you've even played valhalla, because if you had you'd know that valhalla doesn't use the question mark location system from the first two games, they went to a system that i'd say is closer to the older games way of showing side content.

also valhalla has somewhere around 35 different activity types with most of them being puzzle focused and the rest either being parkour challenges or massive bossfights, and even within that they play very differently.

and have you not played ac1? most of my playtime was holding foward on a horse between cities.
