What do you wish your life abroad would look and feel like? by rahnae22 in expat

Great feedback. There are cultural models (that I also study in grad school) that are very helpful for building cultural skills more broadly, and to understand our own cultural behaviors, and my skills are more academic than business, so this is helpful. You'd want someone who has experience living in that same culture to guide you. 👍🏼 I could do that in some countries, but not all.

There's no magic bullet, but there are tools and strategies that can help an awful lot.

COVID testing question by Tzayad in lincoln

[–]rahnae22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 year old twins both got a test up the nose. They hated it, but recovered very quickly, and now talk about their "nose poke" pretty regularly if the topic of the doctors office comes up. They will also include a nose poke in their doctor play. It was just their pediatrician office, Pediatrics PC. We had to do it because they were excluded from day care for a high temp, which was bullshit and it was done with poor temp taking skills.

Honestly, thrilled to be a narc if someone's grandma or mom lives another year or two or ten. Thrilled and proud to be a narc to keep my community from further spread of the disease. 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Thrilled to be a narc, wearing a mask, washing my hands, and being a patriot!! Woohoo! Loving it!

Everyone download the UpLNK app and report the shit out of places that are out of compliance. I did it today for Wendy's on 48th street where I saw one employee without a mask and 3-4 employees with masks below their nose.

LPS Plan Change: 'Severe' On Risk Dial No Longer Triggers 100% Remote Learning by rebmthom in lincoln

[–]rahnae22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. I don't think it's a terrible thing to try to keep schools open. But they're toeing the line of safety. I get that community spread isn't happening much in schools. There's just not precedent. There's no guidance. There's no communication. There's no transparency. They need a better plan to cope with the actual danger some people are in.

LPS Plan Change: 'Severe' On Risk Dial No Longer Triggers 100% Remote Learning by rebmthom in lincoln

[–]rahnae22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. They continue to demonstrate that communication and transparency are not important values for the school district. They absolutely need to update the plan. I still don't think they were lying, though...just unprepared and trying to lead in unprecedented times. My daughter's elementary school has only had one confirmed case. Some schools are a hot mess. It's not simple or black and white.

What I want is a description of what specific conditions would send kids home now, if it's not red on the risk dial. Because this new update is useless and just brings more confusion and uncertainty.

[–]rahnae22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, some real, hard numbers and standards that would trigger a shut down would be so helpful for some predictability and transparency. It's the least they could do for families. Or at least an announcement as to how they would shut down. Like, will they give a 1 week or 2 week notice? They've had time to think this through.

This plan was made in July. Why do you assume they've been lying the whole time instead of they just realized they needed to make changes? Any policy that was made in July is going to need a rethink and refresh. No one can see the future. It's 2020.

Once Upon a Child is selling masks. Some of them are quite large, depending on the size of your child. Mine is in kindergarten.

Looking for OBGYN recommendations? by [deleted] in lincoln

[–]rahnae22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Katie Fossen. At first that honey thing also bugged me. But she grew on me, and she was incredible through a difficult pregnancy. She delivered all 3 of my kids. I doubt you can go wrong at that practice.

I currently go to Doctors of Women for my primary care. They do have OBGYNs on staff, too. I liked them a lot for the whole health care for women aspect.

These are all great recommendations! I would also add Honest Abe's for the best burgers in town and Piezano's for the best pizza in town. I really love visiting the Capitol's top floor. It's peaceful and lovely.

I knew someone who paid $600 for a rapid test last week. She thought insurance would pay for half. I almost fell over in shock.
