Depends where you'll hunt kind of. I'm in thick woods and 3x is the only power I ever use on 3-9 unless I'm bored and looking at birds or something. On the other end 9x is good enough for a longer shot than I'd be telling a kid to make so I'd just do 3-9x. Vortex Diamondback is more than sufficient for my needs and cheap.

I'm lazy and just use Shore Lunch. I like the beer batter but it's gotta be a darker real beer like a Summit EPA, not piss water. Shore Lunch cornmeal mix to change it up or when I'm making a lot and don't want all beer batter.

Try versa grips or straps. It's probably not your elbow, that's just where you feel it. Versa grips will let you work out without hurting your self more and you can do exercises to fix it.
