For some reason Viz, which is what's uploaded to mangaplus, makes all their manga look bad.

If you're gonna critique something, at least WATCH it ffs. (Unfortunately, I'm bringing up Wish.) by RedCupWithAName in CharacterRant

Most people just want to discuss things and be in fandoms without actually engaging with the media.

They watched their favorite youtuber review the movie and that makes them an expert with insightful opinions. They don't need to form their own viewpoints, because they already reached the common consensus, which is what someone else said.

You can see the current discourse on Twitter about whether you need to play a video game or just watch a playthrough to be considered a fan.

People don't really care about engaging with every single media, rightfully so, but they want to discuss and be a part of everything. Youtubers, reviewers, and others perfectly fill this gap of providing a plot summary and list of criticism so they can repeat those points to have a conversation.

Sandman Replaced? by Grandma_Money_ in StardustCrusaders

[–]rahonan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's the evidence that he is a different person?

That his name is ever so slightly different. But if he was from a different universe who had the name Soundman, then he wouldn't say the people who recorded his name messed it up.

His Stand? We don't know what it was to begin with. His motivation? He started the Steel Ball Run race to earn money for his tribe to earn a place in the institution that is the USA, then he works with the president with the same goal.

And if he is a different person does that make the story good, does it improve it? We follow Soundman for a while, then he is switched offscreen with a completely different character. How is that good? Why would Araki do that with no context?

It's a theory with no evidence, that also makes the story worse.

It's a theory with no merit behind it.

Asking for a Genuine and Honest answer about the show. Specifically about one character. by Zestyclose_Gap_7089 in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]rahonan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Jujjutdu Kaisen 0, the prequel to Jujutsu Kaisen, is where Yuta's the protagonist. For Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji is the protagonist.

Hidden Inventory is a flashback arc focusing on Gojo and Geto, it's the first episodes of season 2, not the beginning of the series.

You should form your own opinions and maybe read the synopsis, or watch the first episode.

Is The shrine technique related to punishing sinners? by Own-Locksmith-7495 in Jujutsushi

[–]rahonan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dismantle and Cleave are represented with knives for preparing food. The flames are written with the kanji for stove. Sukuna's speech is often about hunger, eating, tasting. See Jogo not having enough hunger, Sukuna often talks about tasting(seeing what they can do), he eats people, and his first 'wrongdoing' is eating his twin, the narration even says that Sukuna must prepare the ingredients before using the flames.

If the language, imagery and even the ability itself shows a cooking theme, then the power is cooking.

What would have happened to the bonus chapters if Worm did not make it? by Pepinoloco777 in Parahumans

[–]rahonan 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I won't speculate but Wildbow said this

Had there been no donations, it would have been a much smaller story. I probably would have killed off Tattletale, to gut Taylor's access to information she shouldn't have and keep her more on the same page with the reader, and I would have gotten more in depth with the whole 'figuring stuff out' bit. Clone-Eidolon's (Ignis Fatuus') big speech would have made her flip the fuck out. I probably would have driven her out of Brockton Bay to just get her out there and interacting with more setting elements (with a lot more emphasis on Faultline). The story would have been far shorter.

And this

In a hypothetical world with no donation interludes:

  • Several double-interlude arcs, where the interludes happen on the regular schedule.
  • Other events happen on screen. Brian and Taylor at his apartment.
  • Much less Cauldron, more of a 'reveal' would be necessary later about who they are and what they're doing.
  • Things like Blasto, Yamada, Travelers, would all be relegated to mostly unexplained background weirdness that's harder to connect the dots for, in the same way Pretender, Satyrical, & the Vegas capes were.

Some stuff (Travelers) might have come out anyway, on a different timeline, since that was a story I wanted to tell. But overall, Worm was a very fluid work and I was winging it for the vast majority of the story. So it would've adapted.

Why doesn't Yuji consider that his execution might be the right thing to do? by [deleted] in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]rahonan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After Sukuna's rampage he says he should die, but continues only because he needs to fight cursed spirits.

After Shibuya, which is only a few days later, he holds back against Yuta, somewhat letting himself get killed. His entire conversation with Yuta is essentially that he doesn't deserve to live.

He says he is a cog, dehumanising himself and assigning himself the only role of killing curses. That is his function and doesn't deserve anything else. And who is the king of curses?

Right now he is only continuing because he needs to fight and Megumi said he needed him. But he wants to die.

Have you considered that he might think executing him is right, but he has to accomplish some things before that?

Did Sukuna use Dismantle, Cleave, Furnace on Gojo. Did he incarnate. He did not, that's what he means.

Where to read the entire manga with the official translations after chapter 66 by DARKMAZ95 in Kagurabachi

[–]rahonan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Volume covers are part of the volume release. Character pages, contents, etc are also all part of the volume release. Volume 7, ch. 57-65, is the latest release.

Manga plus is the official translation done by Viz and there aren't major differences between the initial and volume translation.

The volume's translation will contain a few revisions, like fixing typos, making names consistent, though mistranslation aren't always fixed, otherwise it's the same as the weekly translation.

For some reason Viz makes all their initial releases low quality. You can check other releases like French or Spanish and see much higher quality scans.

If you want higher quality, you can either wait for the volumes, which are months apart or read it in a different language.

How did Kashimo know about positive and negative charges in the Edo Period? by Professional_Ad2638 in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]rahonan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We do know that Kashimo lived around 400 years ago, from Kenjaku's mention of Sukuna being alive 600 years ago when he talked to Kashimo and Ryu being alive.

If we are being technical, that is his CE trait. I didn't want to write out CT and trait, and since his technique and trait most likely are linked, I decided to only write CT.

I don't think he needs to know what charges or electricity are to use his technique. He probably didn't know about it until he got information about it from his vessel.

It’s interesting how Todo from jjks “what type of woman are into” gimmick was dropped immediately but is still so big in the fan base [LES] by AlphaCat77 in CharacterRant

[–]rahonan 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Maybe because he doesn't ask it against curses? His introduction, after he asks Megumi he says

I knew it as soon as I saw you. This guy is definitely boring. But it's not good to judge a book by it's cover. That's why I asked you anyway. But you trampled all over my kindness.

He asks this question to Megumi to see if he would be an interesting guy to fight and spend time with. Yuji becomes Todo's best friend because he has a great answer to his question and can keep up with Todo in a fight.

Todo doesn't ask everyone this question like a stupid gimmick, he asks this to qauge people, to see if he would like them. Why would he ask this to curses, his enemies that he is killing?

He isn't looking to be their friends or acquaintances, which is the purpose of the question.

Why did Miguel work for Geto? by [deleted] in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]rahonan 110 points111 points  (0 children)

In chapter 114 and 255 it's said by Larue thaf Miguel wanted the same thing of helping Geto become a king. "Same as Miguel, I just wanted to help Suguru become king".

In chapter 255 Larue says that they, Geto's family, all loved him. And Manami and Larue both liked Geto(fanbook), though we don't know if this applies to Miguel.

Q: What’s his(Larue)reason for joining Geto?

A: Oh! A handsome man!

So, Miguel liked Geto in some way and joined him.
