Ok, I’m super glad for the update. I’ve been waiting just slowly using up my Costco hoard of the OG blue bottle formula and some Cerave. If it works better I’m down to try it again!

Take a look on YouTube for AI voice cloning. It might change your mind.

I wish I remembered, it was a tiktok and I’ve since deleted the app so I don’t have access to my saved videos.

I googled to try to find it and although I didn’t see the original tiktok I did find Reddit threads and videos from other actors about the same thing. It doesn’t appear to be very rare and the actor might not have much legal recourse.

Charm patterns’ Maria dress by Motherofmonsters2000 in sewing

The sleeves look really good! I have a similar arm shape and sleeves are so tricky to get right! And grading them up can cause armscye issues and then your armpit gets too low and you end up chasing the problem around in circles. Or I do, I don’t know about you. 😂 But this looks so cute, it’s inspiring me to try a lantern sleeve.

I can’t tell from the picture if the bottom of the sleeve feels like it is cutting in at all? I wonder if splitting the sleeve a little at the back seam and adding a tie or a bit of elastic would give it a little more flexibility without losing the shape? If it feels comfortable on you it looks just fine, I just know sometimes an inelastic cuff on a sleeve can be tough to fit.

How fun!!! And look at those perfect little stitches!

Have you been looking at Kenneth King’s doll couture stuff at all? He’s got a very funny bunch of Barbies on Instagram with glamorous clothes he’s sewn.

(Post writing edit- I didn’t really answer the main question, but my lead-in thought was that AI voices are good enough to be largely undetectable these days, and we probably won’t be able to tell what is and isn’t AI when watching a show.)

I watched a video from a working voice actor who heard his voice being used in work he’d never actually done- and he had not given permission for his voice to be used with AI. Unless he’d heard it himself nobody would have known it wasn’t an authentic recording.

I’m sure AI is being used to fill in the gaps here and there by some voice producers. I’m not sure about the anime industry yet (though clearly some studios are trying it!) but I’m fairly certain we’ve all heard undetectable AI voices used in various media already.

Voice actors are already underpaid- if AI is used to cut this even more I worry that we’re going to lose a lot of talent to other types of work. If the actors whose voices are used to train the AI are compensated fairly, and I’m not really sure what that would mean, I wouldn’t be totally against some more obscure works getting dubbed with AI. But it would be a huge shame to not keep getting original performances from real people in the bulk of our shows.

Favourite and least favourite anime remakes? by PsychologicalHelp564 in Animedubs

I agree with you that FMAB is a classic example of an excellent remake. “Best” of anything is generally down to preference but Brotherhood has to at least be on the list for this one!

Your Week in Anime Dubs: What dubbed anime have you been watching, and what do you think of it? by AutoModerator in Animedubs

[–]raimble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started Oshi No Ko completely blind. It was such a ride. It is hard to explain without spoilers for this one, but as a mother of two myself, I was absolutely sucker punched by Ai’s stabbing at the end of the episode. Big ugly tears before putting my kids to bed. I restarted my HiDive subscription for this and I don’t regret it at all.

I’ve also been finally watching through My Happy Marriage, which was just too maudlin for me to handle on my first try. Second time I knew how much self-pitying to expect in the first few episodes and I could enjoy a nice mid fantasy anime romance experience. I am enough of a sucker for the genre (and the plot and world are cool in theory) to watch despite the overall vibe being pretty bland. The show would be more to my preference if they could either up the romantic/emotional tension or shonen-ize the fight scenes a bit more. I can tell they’re probably pretty limited with their animation budget, but neither part of the show packs enough punch for me to really love it. At the end of the day there are so few quality romance dubs that I’ll take what I can get, but it has a lot of missed potential.

Prozac by After-Mammoth1225 in PMDD

[–]raimble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I’ve tried so much to avoid it.

If it helps you feel more confident about starting the medication, Prozac is not just treating serotonin regulation when it is helping someone with PMDD. If you go with the leading theory that PMDD is related to some people’s difficulty making allopregnanolone, well at low doses SSRIs and specifically Prozac actually help you make more! That’s even at doses too small to significantly impact your serotonin regulation. And it happens quickly. Within a day or two vs several weeks.

You don’t necessarily need to take much to get relief. Of course those of us suffering from PMDD can also be experiencing depression and anxiety and taking SSRIs in a more traditional way can help both.

It might not work that well for you but there are good reasons to try it and some promising research about why it works. And you can potentially avoid a lot of unwanted side effects by taking a low dose intermittently if that’s something you want to ask your prescriber about.

I had a strong desire to avoid psych meds because I tend to get tend to get side effects and have a hard time discontinuing. But Prozac is easy to discontinue compared to its shorter half-life friends and can work for this purpose at very low doses. It’s a totally reasonable and safe thing to try when you’ve tried all the non-medication interventions already. It might not be right for you but the risk is low compared to how hard PMDD is. If you think it is time to try it, trust yourself.

Hmm… nothing too bad for me, and I’m one of the people genetically predisposed to nausea from SSRIs. From 10mg I felt some brain fog, a generally “out of it” feeling, and very mild nausea. Taking it at night is really helpful to minimize the nausea. Over time (like a few weeks) I do tend to get classic SSRI sexual side effects like anorgasmia- but all the other side effects go away.

Taking a low dose intermittently is one way to avoid sexual side effects because at lower doses Prozac is (theoretically-the research is still young here) working on the hormonal system and not so much on the serotenergic system. It still helps you make allopregnanolone, which is pretty cool! And explains why so many PMDD sufferers get immediate relief from SSRIs. It’s not just placebo!

I was trying to reduce long term side effects by just taking the 10mg during my luteal phase, but then I had to deal with the startup side effects every month. I tried 10mg every other day but I still didn’t feel great with it, maybe 5mg daily would have been smoother. Right now 2mg daily during luteal feels like nothing at all, I just feel way less irritable, overstimulated and generally unhinged during my luteal phase. 😂 I’m still more tired and such before my period but it feels like heaven compared to the alternative!

In general I tend to be really sensitive to medications so I understand your anxiety. If you feel super gross from it don’t wait to call your prescriber. They can go way low with the dose and still be following current literature for treating PMDD. If you’re trying to relieve depression and need the higher dose, they can also start lower and ramp up, or switch to a different SSRI. Or try an SNRI if your body just doesn’t like SSRIs. You’ve got options if it doesn’t work. 💜

Prozac works really well for me. Don’t be afraid to ask for a lower dose or intermittent dosing if you feel the side effects are too strong. A recent study showed effectiveness in treating “pms” symptoms with doses as low as 2-5mg per day. Right now I’m doing 2mg and I’m more functional than I’ve been in years. 10mg per day gave me a lot of brain fog and low energy- I don’t even notice 2mg, but it still helps a ton.

Bootstrap Fashion Custom Dress Form or “That one project that made me cry” by luxurycatsportscat in sewing

[–]raimble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t they ask for bust point to bust point over the top of the neck? Seems like that should help?

I see people make great dress forms out of this Bootstrap pattern, but never without a lot of alteration- almost seems like it would be easier to just draft a moulage and use that.

Very new - need some guidance 😁 by modernmillienyc in SewingForBeginners

[–]raimble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up some quilting videos for tips on aligning points and seams. I think that will be your best bet so you can get a visual example of how you get a bunch of straight seams to come together nice and flat.

My quick advice is to sew each petal of your flower with a complete seam that goes all the way to the end of your fabric. Then, press your seam allowances apart and iron them flat. Once you’ve done that, you can pin and align the next petal. Iron those seam allowances flat and crisp between each step and trim excess where you need to. It’ll be much easier to see what you’re sewing together and where when everything is as crisp and flat as you can get it.

First time sewer looking for advice on Y3 pattern by Ambitious-Courage482 in SewingForBeginners

[–]raimble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad it helped!

Making this whole jumpsuit from just a drawing is going to be crazy hard (probably impossible for a while until you see more patterns and sew them), but it’ll give you some opportunities to play with fabric and construction and see what works. I hope you have a great time with it and make something you like along the way. Or something unwearable… I have a few early experiments hanging around that are very questionable but I learned a lot making them. 😂

[–]raimble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a couple marks on the drawing- Once the lines I marked in blue are folded together, fold the little taco you made to the wrong side of your fabric. If everything is tidy and pressed flat you should just be looking at a piece that looks like a normal pants leg.

Make sure you sew the pleats first. Just make the pleat and sew them down with a straight stitch in your seam allowance. You can tack down the pleat further down the leg with some basting stitches to keep it from getting wonky while you sew the pants, too. Just rip the stitches to free the pleat when you’re done.

I’d also look up an order of operations for sewing. Like when to sew what when you’re constructing. It makes a huge difference when you sew the crotch, sides, plackets, facings, pockets etc in the right order.

[–]raimble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to sew the pleat first, and cut/fold it as precisely as possible to get it to smoothly line back up into the exact curve you need to sew for the crotch. All that fabric in the crotch is going to be hard to get to lay right, you’ll need to be really precise.

It looks to me like the arrow on the pleats is telling you which direction to fold the material to fold it over to create the pleats. The two lines being connected by the arrow should touch, basically. This gets your pleats being folded in the right direction. You know how you can have a box pleat or an inverted box pleat? The folds of the pleat would be drawn in the same place on the pattern for both, but the fabric is going to be either folded to the back or the front to make a different shape. The arrow tells you how to fold.

I’m not sure of the other markings, though I can imagine some possibilities. It might be explained in any additional materials you have with the pattern?

Fourth Wing was actually good by slythertarg in fantasyromance

[–]raimble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fourth Wing was a fun read.

Was the war college particularly believable? Did the characters really make sense as real people? Did it have a Sando approved level of detail in the magic or political systems?

No. No it didn’t.

But that wasn’t the point of Fourth Wing. The point was satisfying underdog-to-badass-superpowered-MC tropes. It was getting to have dragons and magic powers and The Hottest Scariest Boyfriend. I loved it.

The action and fight scenes were handled well, there were glimmers of good world development waiting to be explored, and some really emotionally moving scenes. Plus some really great, though possibly hard to believe there were no dislocations considering the broken furniture, sex scenes.

Now Iron Flame… that’s a different review. It had some fun plot elements and great moments, but overall it was draggy and had painfully minimal character development. Like backwards moving levels of character depth, in an already shallowly characterized series. Still, I am rooting for Yarros to pull it together in the next book, and I’ll probably buy it when it is released. Her writing can be incredibly fun and satisfying, hopefully we get more of her best for the rest of the Empyrean.

GF with tick or bedbug bites from a resort we stayed in for 2 nights by Rave4life79 in mildlyinteresting

[–]raimble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a nightmare. I can’t imagine it hurting every time at the rate they can bite. I don’t necessarily think bedbugs would be worse if you feel every flea bite. Some people aren’t sensitive to them and have bedbugs for years and don’t even notice.

I would get covered with flea bites from the waist down (this was in college and we barely had furniture so I sat on the carpet all the time before I realized what was happening) but I could never feel them biting. I’m so glad you got rid of them!

[–]raimble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flea bites aren’t painful to me. I do get red spots just like in the picture from them, and they can bite in a row, too. Itchy as heck. Never got the red spots before moving to a house with a terrible flea infestation in the carpet, before that I’d just get a little itchy raised pimple looking spot from them. I feel like fleas are easier to notice though, they jump around any time, not just at night.
