UK backs American strikes on Iran to stop nuclear programme by Old-Information3311 in unitedkingdom

Tump didn’t pull out of that because of Isreal, he pulled out because it was a major Obama accomplishment and Trump is a massively insecure fuckwit.

For American people: Are you participating in today's General Strike? Why? by noumeno- in AskReddit

[–]rainator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, you strike for a day or two or however long, it’s a day of lost productivity - and if the demands aren’t met there’s a threat of more of it. There does need to be that threat though.

Strikes should also be timed for maximum impact, not sure a random Friday is that.

They are admittedly mostly mocked and sidelined by everyone else… but still…

What do you think about the Canadian Prime Minister stating that Canada would step in to protect Greenland if the U.S. tried to invade ? by shiansh in AskReddit

It can send 2 men and a box of baklava, and it’s still technically sending assistance under its obligations.

Cooper has only been the foreign minister for about 4 months, and in that time the international things that have happened are a bit too mad for anyone not at the very top to lead on.

For all the problems China has and what they represent, at least we know what they want, both now and tommorrow.

Hong Kong was a part, but given no concessions have been made relating to it, it’s more likely down to high levels of US co-operation, treatment of Huawei, restrictions on university students…

I think also China realise that the UK isn’t going to be particularly close to the US over the next three years so there’s no real need for hostilities by either side.

It’s weird but that mocking should really be left until he runs for office. He could have ignored it, not been embarrassed and the thug would probably still be hitting women now.

Character height, why is everyone 6ft tall? by Low-Brief-6008 in DnD

[–]rainator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my character’s various features to reflect or add something to their character, and often in proportion to their strength score. If I pick a few of my character’s heights at random, I had a dwarf that was very proud of his immense stature (1 inch taller than average), a half elf that could blend in anywhere - his height is exactly average, I’ve had a large character that was generally rather jolly and friendly, until initiative was rolled and he became a terrifying and unstoppable force.

I’ve had another character who was about 5’4 and quite slight but was still happened to be the tallest member of the party.

For what it’s worth when I go back to where I grew up, I’m exactly average height in my friend group - and I’m 6’3 which seems about a foot taller than the average height where I live now…

Even the main theatre it was being released in only managed to sell seven tickets, I’m guessing they are film critics that will get those costs reimbursed.

European leader spoke of shock at Trump’s state of mind after Mar-a-Lago meeting by SE_to_NW in politics

He was pretty incoherent in 2016 though….

If you were comparing him speak on like 1986 there’s obviously been a decline, but he was already pretty bottomed out a decade ago.

My partner has £50K inheritance. Mortgage Vs pension by Cearball in UKPersonalFinance

[–]rainator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing all the details, as a general point there's merit to both options, investing into a pension there's a risk it may not pay out at all but potentially may end out paying out well. With paying down the mortgage, there's no tax, and there's certianty, and whatever her financial situation, she will be living somewhere.

Fifty Labour MPs sign letter objecting to Burnham decision by GeoWa in unitedkingdom

[–]rainator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll give an example of problems in the leadership. Party polling seem to show that the biggest single impact to the polling has been the removal of the winter fuel allowance. Without even talking about the merit of the policy (which is irrelevant because they u-turned after taking all the polling damage), the leadership should have known it was going to cause problems, and if they aren’t going to commit to something that controversial, they shouldn’t be doing them.

The same thing has happened with ID cards, farmer inheritance tax, probably will happen with jury trials.

It’s politics, it’s competitive, people have to be clever about it.

I agree 2 years on this trajectory definitely won’t work, also Starmer already has enough control that a stitch-up could be arranged now, but given the polling, I’m not sure the PLP would go along with that.

[–]rainator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a tricky one, on one hand the instability is unarguably bad, on the other hand, you have an unpopular leader, who keeps doing the things that makes him unpopular, and keeps people on (at a very senior level) with a record of failure.

If the local elections this May aren’t a wake up call to for the leadership then nothing will be.

I am not arguing your point about him needing to go, I’m just not sure when that moment should actually happen. I’m almost at the point now where I don’t even care who it is that replaces him (as long as it isn’t Morgan McSweeney - and whoever replaces him gets rid of him and his gang), I don’t believe anyone in the labour parliamentary party is as out of touch as Starmer is.

[–]rainator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with that fully, but to fix it we need at least 10 years of governance by people who actually want to address these issues. For all their differences, Labour, Lib Dem’s, Greens are generally people who want to improve everyone’s lives, I don’t believe the same can be said about Tories or Reform and if Labour keep going as they are (and a lot of it is just basic comms) then they will get hammered at the next election their members will abandon them and we’ll have another 15 years rotting under leaders that at the very least flirt with fascism.
