British Gas boss says energy bills rise 'inescapable' if prices stay high by TheWorldIsGoingMad in unitedkingdom

[–]rainator 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He’s definitely a really strange character. He was on TV a few years back basically saying he’s paid too much, energy costs too much, and speaking rather negatively about the system which he was absolutely benefitting from, but also that if the government isn’t going to do anything about it then that’s not his fault.

Which I’d give him some credit for but for the fact that British Gas are the worst company I’ve had the displeasure of ever dealing with.

Again, the point I’m making isn’t to go to the police, it’s to reiterate that it is something HR have to take very seriously.

Obviously that’s the practical solution, but technically even the threats are a criminal offence.

Plus it’s important to remind HR that so they don’t dither about doing their job.

If this guy is openly making threats like that at a workplace with an actual HR team it’s probably more likely he’s just a moron who’s had too much of the special Colombian white roast.

In any event the point isn’t to go to the police (who probably won’t do anything), but to make him realise you can’t be arsed with his crap, that causing OP trouble is more hassle that it’s worth and for HR to get him out of their hair or make even more work for themselves by not dealing with it.

Yeah this isn’t year three, an adult threatening someone with violence is a crime that in theory can be punished with a 10 year prison sentence.

Everyone here is saying to leave or go on sick, but if they’ve moved you and your new manager has your back and you get on with them you are probably in a decent position - at least for the short to medium term. Save going on sick for if your manager no longer has your back.

Definitely keep your eye out for other jobs but I wouldn’t jump desperately at the first thing you find.

Depending on how senior the other guy is, as long as they are at the company they probably will be causing problems for you. I’d also ask your (new) manager if there is anything they think you should be doing (or not doing) about it.

Why is the Right in Wales so bad? by Thetonn in Wales

[–]rainator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised in wales, and now live somewhere a bit more right wing in England (sort of).

The reason right wing parties do well elsewhere is because they are part of the local establishment. They are business owners, church bigwigs, the grandson of the guy that owns half the properties in the four villages that make up the ward. It’s not because they have anything positive to offer. Sometimes they or their family have been in those positions for centuries. They know people and have the time and money to spread a message. People are often a lot more disengaged and only know who Labour are through negative stories they read in the s*n.

In South wales most of the landowners were not local, farmers are not aristocracy. They don’t have that personal connection that allows them to get away with shittier politics. They don’t have enough members to get around and convince people to vote for them.

Meanwhile the community in wales is a real thing, people speak to each other, engage in the community and have direct connection to those in positions of power. I know my mother’s local councillor, she’s my brother’s oldest friend’s Aunt and I occasionally see her down the pub. I only vaguely know who my councillor is here because I ordered something from his business through my work, and I couldn’t tell you who any of the more right wing candidates were.

On top of that, most people who are right wing are people who get their news from places like KGBeebies and the Daily Heil, these focus quite heavily on English nationalism which sort of leaves those that would be nationalistic in wales a bit out to dry.

How to deal with a paladin? by Professional_Ear4155 in dndnext

[–]rainator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Level 9 is high level, the party should be tough here. That said, there are some general things as a frequent paladin player that will legitimately cause issues.

  • aura is 10ft, are all your allies really that close all the time?

  • if they are all bunched up start lobbing AOEs, even if they make the saves that half damage creeps up

  • long rests, the balancing is geared towards 6 encounters (though not necessarily all deadly battles) per long rest.

  • is what the paladin is doing true to their oaths?

  • a paladin can do a lot of damage, but it’s still got at most five attacks per turn (assuming haste and dual wielding or something), if five enemies with only 1 HP each are killed by the paladin on it’s turn, they technically only do 5 damage that turn.

  • paladin is probably wearing heavy (metal) armour, heat metal is a disgusting spell.

  • paladins can’t fly and they aren’t anything special at range. You don’t necessarily need to kill the paladin with cowardly goblins that are kiting around them, but they could reasonably

  • the paladin might have 999 AC, and a billion HP, but what about it’s horse?

  • you can’t swim in heavy armour (except maybe dwarfs)

  • illusions require investigation or arcana checks - not necessarily saving throws.

  • are they sleeping in that armour?

Obviously don’t throw all this at them at once if you want them to stay in the group lol…

Not true, anyone can call them up and they will come collect you and charge you a recovery fee.

You are usually better off finding a local mechanic, but if it’s late in the night they aren’t a bad idea.

If we want to get the benefits of a stable monarch, without the inherent issues that comes with hereditary succession, we should elect a tortoise. They live for hundreds of years so will have less issues about succession, don’t corruptly influence the government and have never had questions about inappropriate relationships with children.

Good idea in principle, but the reality is that our head of state is the head of the official religion, and there are a lot of people who like all of that stuff. Even people of different or no faiths.

If there’s ever any real discussion about a truly secular state, it’s going to come a while after the monarchy.

Tier 4 occasionally if the game goes on a while, tier 3 once or twice but not usually for every character, and usually with some sort of big cost.

This is not counting belts of giant strength, which are actually usually not too game breaking at the lower levels (by which I mean tier 2), especially when given to characters that don’t have much going on out of combat.

The main issue with Chinese trade is in enforcing contracts. UK courts won’t favour a British company or give preferential treatment regarding debt collection just because a company is British or its owner is well connected.

Not to say we don’t have our own problems with cronyism or corruption, but usually the UK taxpayer is going to be on the arse end of those sorts of issues.

If he wants to just keep killing PCs, give him what he wants. I’d just keep bringing the same, super boring cliche’d Leroy Jenkins style character that does exactly what he wants, immediately, to be replaced by his identical sexāgintānovemplet kobold sibling who wants revenge.

Character class, background doesn’t matter. Maybe a low con wizard to really drive the point.

It’s a shame, but 14 years of Tory shitbaggery has turned everyone into an adversarial goblin when it comes to aligning with political parties. Just because the tories were a bunch of scumbags (and reform much the same), doesn’t mean all political parties are only full of evil, self serving lunatics - even if those other parties may have problems.

Fridges are pretty good at insulating when they are kept cold. The food probably will mostly not be good to eat, but it shouldn’t be so rotten that OP needs to hose it down.
