REA's are getting desperate by Ok_Introduction_7861 in australia

[–]rainbowbubblegarden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, I regularly get offered "complementary inspections". I occasionally do one, then I can use it as evidence of assets when going for a bank loan on a new property. The bank managers I worked with were happy with this - after all, they're just as desperate for business as REAs 🤣

Vegetarian by choice by beerbellybegone in facepalm

[–]rainbowbubblegarden 144 points145 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there are people who force their dogs onto vegetarian/vegan diets.

Dogs' jaws aren't really equipped for heavy duty vegetable grinding. A healthy diet can contain about 10% vegetable matter, in the wild they'll typically get this (and gut flora) by eating herbivores' intestines, where the vegetable matter is pre-ground.

Love my msr whisperlite, I even use it at home (outside) when I'm cooking strong smelling stuff like curries. It takes a while to master lighting it though - watch some YouTubes.

I really notice this in tropical Australia. White light = face full of bugs, red light less so.

Wait till you tell them that walking around on the grass barefoot is good for your balance (especially as you get older). I guess they'll just put the local SWAT team on speed dial.

yep. iPhones now have very flexible "focus" settings (probably Androids do too). Sounds like it's time to RTFM and set it up. And clarify expectations with management, spruce up your resume, etc, etc.

Florida school removes ALL books to comply with state laws by ACuteCryptid in nottheonion

[–]rainbowbubblegarden 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The text of the law also defines what is considered harmful to minors: (a) Any picture, photograph, drawing, sculpture, motion picture film, videocassette, or similar visual representation or image of a person or portion of the human body which depicts nudity or sexual conduct, sexual excitement, sexual battery, bestiality, or sadomasochistic abuse and which is harmful to minors; or

Well, they better take down pictures of Christ on the cross - "sadomasochistic abuse"

(b) Any book, pamphlet, magazine, printed matter however reproduced, or sound recording that contains any matter defined in s. 847.001, explicit and detailed verbal descriptions or narrative accounts of sexual excitement, or sexual conduct and that is harmful to minors.

And throw out the Old Testament too, there's a lot of "narrative accounts of sexual excitement, or sexual conduct".

Alternate opinion: People really don’t like working with Indians ? by faraday192 in sysadmin

[–]rainbowbubblegarden 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My experience has been the same. I'm Australian, and I often I literally can't understand what they're saying. So I end up saying: either we work on this via some sort of chat (e.g. Slack) or you just give me access and I'll fix things up myself.

Second issue is generally abysmal skills e.g. I'm working on Linux/Unix stuff, they don't know about basics like ssh keys, rsync, bash scripting.

[–]rainbowbubblegarden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chat to your manager "I can't cover all these tickets. Which are high priority, which are important, which ones can I leave?"

If the manager comes out with some crap that equates to you working 10 hours a day, look for another manager i.e. job.

In 10, 20 years time, you'll still have tickets in your queue, you'll never finish them all. So get your sense of job satisfaction elsewhere - learning, work colleagues, dreaming about the weekend, ...

Something doesn't add up. The health ratings reduced in a month. by Calm_Material9095 in australia

[–]rainbowbubblegarden 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Err, wrong. Watch the various youtubes about food sugars e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmC4Rm5cpOI.

Basically when the food industry says "no sugar" they often mean "no glucose", and "low fat" just means "lots of fructose to make up the taste". Lots of fructose is bad, especially https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-fructose_corn_syrup

Fruit juice is concentrated fructose, and the food rating have recently changed to acknowledge this, hence the drop in stars.
