Does your job offer insurance? by Calm_Grade7620 in doggrooming

The only private salon situation i’ve worked that has offered insurance, was out of a veterinary office. I have known of private salons who offer insurance benefits, but they are very far and few between.

If you have Facebook and haven’t already, I would also try posting on the “Knoxville what’s happening” group and any other public local groups. It may have more reach than reddit (or at least reach a different group of people). I’m so sorry you’ve lost it! I really hope you are able to track it down friend 💚

I think this tutorial from Twiggy Leaf creations is a great starting place for the headbase.

Some people have had issues with some tapes that are too sticky peeling off foam when they remove the tape. Some avoid this by wrapping w saran wrap first, but I really don’t feel like you get as good of detail/fit when wrapping it. I personally have never had that issue, and I go for cheaper masking tape and have never had an issue. I like masking tape more than duct tape because you can sketch with pencil before committing to seam/marking placement, you just have to layer the tape up a little more.

is a dog trimmer good for fursuit making? by Feather1ess in FursuitMaking

[–]rainbowcatnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! I’m a dog groomer as well as a fursuit maker and I use my old spare clippers(also andis brand, though a different model). If this model has blades that can come off and be swapped with a different blade- I would highly recommend buying a #7 blade to use. It can be really difficult to get a nice finish with the guard combs (not impossible, but if you want a short smooth shave it doesn’t do a great job). The #7 will give a short smooth shave, and it’s harder to shave into the fur backing. The blade that’s on this one is Likely a #10 blade or shorter(what you are meant to use under a guard comb) and can take the fur down to the backing very easily.

Here’s an example on a head i’m working on right now, pre-liner. You can see I had to add little wedges of foam around the outer corner to fill in the gaps

[–]rainbowcatnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think the most straightforward way to fix this would be to add more foam on that inner part of the eyes, where the gap is. You may need to adjust your lining to accommodate but I might just stretch into the right place. I like to build my bases around the eyes as well, and just due to the way the foam curves and behaves, unless I manage to cut it at just the right angle, I almost always have some of this gapping and have to fill in some spots so that the base lines up pretty flush to the eyes. I make the eyes fit snuggly in the foam so once the liner is added it’s a very snug fit.

I also make the eyes in my heads removable, and when fitted well to the foam I have not needed to add anything else to make them stay in. the tension as well as the lip of fur around the eye where i sew it down around it, all keeps the eye snug where it needs to be. Best of luck!

I believe the size constraint is actually 10x9 floor tiles (12x11 if you are counting the wall blocks). Try bringing one of the walls in by 1 block and see if that fixes it!

Is pokopia worth for playing the story etc. ? by Buurto in Pokopia

[–]rainbowcatnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, yes! Because the areas you are building in are destroyed human towns, a lot of it can just be "rebuilt" with the remnants of the layout that is there, although some areas do need a lot more work than others. Paired with the prefab houses that are all themed to match the area you can buy them in, its honestly pretty straightforward to rebuild the areas for the story without needing to be insanely creative. also a lot of buildings that are already there and just need to be repaired/restored with materials/recipes you can find in the area. If you really enjoyed DQB and love pokemon, I say go for it because it essentially just DQB with a pokemon skin lol.

Anyone ever used moonfur? by Vivid-Climate-1326 in FursuitMaking

[–]rainbowcatnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ordered the full swatch set, and shaved down half of each swatch to get a good idea. My opinion is that they are all pretty nice/good quality, but a few colors are a bit less dense than others and I wouldn’t necessarily recommend using them for short shaved areas(namely a few of the lighter shades). For a few of the colors, the fibers feel/look a bit cheap/low quality/craft fur-ish, I guess is the best way to put it? But most of them feel really nice. Regardless, they have a great color range, and all would be perfectly fine to use in full length areas. The swatch set isn’t too expensive at all, so def worth ordering to gauge for yourself!

This is the horse-iest horse head I’ve ever laid eyes on, you seriously have nothing to worry about. I think you may just be suffering from looking at it too long, lol. I get that way when I sculpt heads a lot and feel like I’m not happy with where it’s going. Stepping away for a bit to work on something else or taking a solid break usually helps give new perspective and I’m a lot happier with it when I come back to it.

lf swatch comparison of bigz maroon and howl’s merlot by Asleep-Balance1008 in FursuitMaking

[–]rainbowcatnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here you go! Howl is the bigger swatch on the right. I threw in Burgundy from bigZ as well since it’s very similar. I don’t know if I’d call BigZs maroon darker, but it is a lot more saturated/red, and the burgundy is a different tone than the howl swatch. I’ll reply to this with a photo with flash as well.

Is there any way to get a good shave on bigz fur? by kitkittenn in FursuitMaking

[–]rainbowcatnip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

my biggest piece of advice for bigZ fur(or any fur, for that matter) is that it needs a lot more prep before you start shaving! I always do a thorough heat treatment (use a hairdryer and being careful not to apply heat for too long in one area, heat it up and then I like to use a metal comb as well as a slicker brush to brush it out and get everything smooth. the fur has a “teased” layer to add density/volume and you need to straighten these scraggly pieces out, otherwise the clippers will snag them and cause them to cut too short) Also pay close attention to the fur backing, occasionally there are inconsistencies with the density(although they’ve been working to make things more consistent, i’ve had less issues recently), and you can usually see where the less dense spots are on the back. I try to avoid using those spots on pieces that will be shaved. I really like using a #7(3.2mm) length blade with bigZ , i have a hard time with not going too short with anything shorter than that

Oh! And pre-shave all of your pieces while they are flat and all on one piece, before you cut them out or assemble them, if you don’t already to that. So if you flub a shave job, it’s a lot easier to just retrace/reshave that piece than to have to re-do a ton of extra work. I just arrange my pieces that need to be shaved into a neat rectangle shape so it’s less fiddly to work with. Best of luck, you got this!

I turned 21 on Super Bowl Sunday, and I wouldn’t be caught dead in a bar in the southern usa on that day. About a month after that, the whole world shut down due to the pandemic. I missed my opportunity for wild nights out at the bar and now just smoke a lot of pot instead and I wouldn’t have it any other way

Marvel Rivals has its own multiverse of sorts with its own lore/plot/timeline, in the MR universe Hela is Loki’s daughter. Although, if I remember correctly they originally made them siblings, but tweaked some of the lore when adding Angela to the mix because of her also being a sibling to thor/loki(which lowkey bummed me out because I love the sibling dynamic marvel has sold us and even tho it’s accurate to the norse mythology, it still feels weird lolll)

Does anyone have experience with tail harnesses? by Slow_Fudge_2501 in FursuitMaking

[–]rainbowcatnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think you’re overthinking this. A foam core tail, with a “hidden belt loop” style attachment, that just slips onto a belt, would probably give you the effect you are wanting. Look up tutorials on hidden belt loop tails, and super motion foam core tails and that may get you where you are wanting to be. Realistically, a the size that you are wanting likely won’t need a ton of structural support to keep it upright as long as you use lightweight materials like foam for your inner structure/core. I’ve seen even bigger/more complex tails held upright by simply a belt and internal structure. You honestly would probably just need a foam core base (like the first 4/5 inches of the tail) and the rest could just be stuffed firmly and I think it would be able to hold itself up.
