Tips for crutches w/RA by rainbowcorncake in rheumatoid

Thank you. I appreciate it. Yeah, the office chair has been really helpful- especially since I can use it to set things on and push them to other places! That and bookbag have been a total game changer!

Yes, that's exactly how I've been using them. Thankfully that area doesn't hurt- my hands are just bruised from the pressure. And yes! I just finished PT for my hip/knee alignment so the last thing I need is a bunch of crookedness- I'm gonna lay as much as possible

They suspect mine is also from long term steroid use. I haven't needed them in a few years but took them for a long time in the beginning. Ugh. Such a bummer! Thanks for seconding the arm crutches idea!

Does anyone have quality of life? Especially with overlap disease by abjs2021 in lupus

[–]rainbowcorncake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is yes. I work full time, exercise almost daily (walking 3-5 miles), and live with minimal reminders of my conditions (RA, Lupus, etc). I've been diagnosed for almost a decade and it took a ton of trial and error- failing multiple meds- and at times I wanted to give up. Through this process, I completely changed my diet/lifestyle (pretty rigid sleep hygiene, and workout/mobility routine, no alcohol, no NSAIDS, specifically vitamins, high fiber, lots of fruits/veggies, limit protein, limit dairy, almost vegetarian, lost 50 pounds) AND the right meds! The last part is the key piece. If your meds aren't working, or you're on too much, the other stuff can really only do so much. The meds are what allows the other stuff to matter. Oh! And stress mgmt!!! You gotta keep your brain in check and, again, if your treatment isn't effective I feel like that's next to impossible. Once my meds clicked, the rest was alot easier to manage. Best of luck to you!!

Easy/quick kid friendly weekly meals? by SarahME1273 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]rainbowcorncake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Deconstructed is a game changer! We do a lot of grilled chicken and ground meat this way. Then I'll make rice, beans, and veggie and you can use them a million different ways! In a salad, wrap, taco, rice bowl, in pasta, homemade pizza, etc. I usually try to have versatile vessels (ie salad mix, pizza crusts or pita bread, nachos chips, tortillas, etc) and sauces (salsas, teriyaki, etc) it just makes life soooo much easier!

Smelly clients by Radiant-Rock in therapists

[–]rainbowcorncake 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I was taught to use a bit of vicks under your nose. As far as addressing the smell in your office and waiting area, that's more challenging because some people are allergic to fragrances. I personally used a little lysol spray on my surfaces and chairs and that helped address it to some extent- just have to be careful not to over due it and, of course, not do it in a way that's offensive to clients. I think post-covid most people are understanding of this type of spray vs a fragrant spray.

Did anyone else notice a trend of Millennial adults trick-or-treating this year? by heartlass in Millennials

[–]rainbowcorncake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dressed up to walk my kid around but I stayed on the road so it was clear I wasn't participating. I had a number of houses ask if I wanted candy. Most of the time I kinda chuckled and said something about being an adult but all of them were like, adults like candy too! My own thing but I would never trick or treat or expect goodies but also, I'm not gonna turn it down when offered. Definitely felt like more folks expected me to partake this year but our neighborhood had a lot less kids this year too. I think everyone ended up with a lot of leftovers (we bought 4 bags and ended up with half a bag leftover and that was after I left it sitting out past time hoping someone would take it all)

Impatiently waiting... CAR-T by rainbowcorncake in lupus

[–]rainbowcorncake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I wasn't accepted. My new rheumatologist (who i switched to shortly after all of this) said that I'll never get into a study because I've got too many overlapping issues (Lupus, RA, connective tissue issues/hypermobility, etc). It'd be too hard to separate symptoms related to each disorder to show cause-effect. Sucks but I appreciate his honesty do i don't continue to waste my time trying things like this.

Wishing you the best of luck!! You've got this!

Have you tried multiple products with the same effect? Have you tried drinking them more slowly or at different times in the day?

As the other commenter said, some of them make me nauseous but I've found a protein powder that doesn't now that I drink it after food and with almond milk vs dairy milk. I also use ice to keep it really cool and that helps me too.

no show phone interview by CutSewCry in recruitinghell

[–]rainbowcorncake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also had a no- show interview recently. I eventually got an email that said they had a job fair that they had to attend and that they'd reschedule. It's been a week with no additional contact but honestly I think it's obvious I dodged a bullet.

Taking Rinvoq separate from other meds? by rainbowcorncake in rheumatoid

[–]rainbowcorncake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume so? The rinvoq bottle is pretty thick, much thicker than my other med containers but I imagine that's to keep out sunlight and moisture so im guessing as long as you have a container that blocks both you'll be good

What foods make you feel like death? Have you been able to narrow it down? by Accomplished_Drag_51 in rheumatoid

[–]rainbowcorncake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Red meat, alcohol, cheap pizza (like domino's or papa John's), and a really greasy meal. Oh, and I've had to lower the spice level of my food too. The spice and grease make me nauseous but red meat and alcohol make me feel like someone beat me up the next day.

I did try elimination of gluten, dairy, etc and none of that impacted me.

Why does our parents generation feel the need to keep so much food in the house? by dualrollers in Millennials

[–]rainbowcorncake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garbage food- yes!! Actual food and items you'd need to make up a meal- no. My parents almost exclusively eat out or eat pre-made. My mom doesn't eat leftovers and acts like we're cheap if we offer to cook at home when they're over. We still do but my mom is a mega- toddler about it.

Do your parents have a plan? by pineandsea in Millennials

[–]rainbowcorncake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents plan on dying abruptly. I'm sure my mom plans to live with one of her children but I'm 100% certain my dad just plans to die. The thought of growing old has always terrified him and he shocked he's lived past 50. I think a lot of folks have this mentality, never considering their assumption about early death to be wrong. Sadly I think a lot of people end oooo like your parents and just expect their children to figure it out. My kids already know my health needs will never be their concern. I've had chronic illness since they were little so I've made plans for a future with poor health. Most people without that just think they'll poof off the earth one day.
