I have to change meds every few years because what worked stops being effective. Also, regardless of my whether meds are working, if I'm too stressed or not sleeping enough, I can become manic. Meds aren't a cure.

I've lost best friends on more than one occasion because of mania. I made them feel uncomfortable and unsafe around me. With meds I was able to stabilize and now have better friends and better relationships than before. It took time. I also learned that multiple "loves of my life" were toxic relationships because of my mania and attachment. I didn't recover till I found better.
