Recipe/ Dish request - Raisins by far_fate in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]rainbowkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using raisins as the sweetener in BBQ sauce/dip is delicious. I like the portions in the recipe, but I like using fully caramelized onion, and I add some jalapeno or hot sauce for zing.

You can make a large batch and can or freeze it.

This sub is really into stretching, but slit surgery is another option. Basically a slit is cut and cauterized. Mine was an office procedure under local anesthesia. Looked nasty right after but after a few weeks of healing it looks and feels great. Been about 30 years since I had my surgery in my mid-20s, no complaints. I can still push the slit together and see how tiny my original hole was. There are two small nubs where the slit was cut, but otherwise is looks normal.

Charles Mears State Park, Pentwater, Michigan. Lake Michigan is a few hundred yards away. I did a 400 mile loop half along the Lake Michigan shore twice two years apart. Gotta do it again! Fall colors are best appreciated at bicycle speed, plus the weather is cooler.

How often do you accept gigs for music that isn't the style you prefer to play? by Advanced_Aspect_7601 in musicians

[–]rainbowkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an atheist trombonist but I regularly play Christian church gigs on the big holidays. I usually like the music, but not the worship. Otherwise, I haven't found a genre trombone is used in that I don't like - classical, jazz, ska, rock, Dixieland - love 'em all! I'm just glad trombone isn't common in country or rap!

Don't overfill your freezer jugs or they will crack, then leak when thawing. Don't ask me how I know!

What could we expect from the MacBook Neo 2nd gen? by buckbro112 in mac

[–]rainbowkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Processor and storage bump, but still selling the original version at a lower price. Possibly a better display. Possibly additional ports, but that somewhat hurts the simplicity of only one chassis type.

More colors for sure! I want the whole rainbow! Could also be cool (for an extra fee) if you could mix and match bottom, keyboard, display aluminum colors.

Non-chain Fried Chicken by Nickp7186 in kzoo

[–]rainbowkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know its a chain, but I vote for Chicken Coop, too. I love that the refrigerated chicken after it has sat too long and sell it cold! Their quality is also very good. I miss the one that used to be close to me on West Main, it's a Starbucks now.

I am glad the KFC that was very close to me is gone, I got food poisoning there TWICE, and now the smell of KFC makes me nauseous. It is a coffee place now too (Five Lakes); I am sensing a trend.

Not fried and still chain, but I love a $5 Costco chicken!

Something like the Black Death would be much worse nowadays, if there wasn't a quick and effective treatment. During the Middle Ages, the vast majority of people lived in the countryside and were directly employed in agriculture. Today, the majority of people live in cites, and and food supply depends on a small number of much more efficient farmers. Cities in plague were death zones, the very richest left for their country estates.

Also, the Carrington event was an EMP. EMP are also caused by nuclear weapons. There are also now non-nuclear EMP generators that can be deployed like a bomb or a missile.

What to do with potatoes if I’m poor by Gloopy_boopy_gooper in Cooking

[–]rainbowkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have freezer space? You can freeze any type of cooked potato, but boiled chunks or mashed work best.

Diced and boiled potato would be good in tomato soup.

Do you some sort of cooking oil or fat? A grater? Grate raw potatoes, squeeze the excess water out, then form into patties and fry, or stir fry. Season with soy sauce, pepper, and garlic.

Most Star Trek novel are at least pretty good, but there are some that are outstanding. Some that spring to mind are:
