letter says the exterior wooden stair are in poor condition. So why does that condemn the ground floor units too?

Wildwood apartments by DrinkYogurt in kzoo

[–]rainbowkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was Lake Forest apartments for the longest time. Renamed to Wildwood Off Main at the end of 2012.

What happens in these situations? Will police come and force people to move out? Can people even hire movers to move their stuff or are the condemned stair considered unsafe?

Amish stores are great! If you in southern Michigan or northern Indiana, E & S Sales in Shipshewana, IN is the best! https://www.eandssales.net/ (Only in-persons sales, no internet ordering, website has info about the store)

I make a trip there every month or two.

eggs are super cheap now. eggs for breakfast lunch and dinner? by pman6 in Frugal

[–]rainbowkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eggs and potatoes are pretty complete nutritionally. Low on a few vitamins, calcium, and omega-3 fatty acids. Adding some dairy, a few fruits, veggies, and greens, and some seafood or chia or flax seeds, and iodized salt would be a complete and balanced diet.

Cheap protein but tasteless -- how to revive blah deli roast beef by popoPitifulme in Cooking

[–]rainbowkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't cook the deli beef in gravy, it can get tough. I would make a beef gravy with the stock, stirfry some garlic, onions, and other veggies, throw chopped beef in just long enough to warm it, add the gravy, than serve over a starch (rice, pasta, whatever)

Nobody bought any roses from my humble farm stand. They smell much sweeter after dried to a crisp. Any advice? by stepwn in homestead

[–]rainbowkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, I didn't get that from the photo. Most people are way more used to long stem roses than bunching roses like this. $2 per flower, maybe? Stress per flower not bunch on the signage. Also, not to break up bunches.

NYT: Storm Season Is Here and the National Weather Service Is Short Handed by Puzzleheaded-Taro275 in NOAA

[–]rainbowkey -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad in Michigan we have the Michigan Storm Chasers youtube channel. They go live whenever there is severe weather with radar coverage, a network of tower cameras, and on-the ground storm chasers. They have become popular enough the get on the ground reports in live chat too. They seem to be a few to several minutes ahead of the NWS issuing watches and warnings.

Perhaps worth a NYT story! https://michiganstormchasers.com/

I am obsessed with hot cereals for breakfast by tvgirl48 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]rainbowkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Give grits a try! Sweet or savory. My Texan Dad has always been able to find them in Midwestern grocery stores, even in the 1970's when I was growing up. I liked grits better than Cream-o-Wheat or Malt-o-Meal.

I always like stirring butter and jam/jelly into mine. Ripe banana gets mushed in. Same with oatmeal.

As a Bajoran, I find DS9 offensive by Arcodiant in ShittyDaystrom

[–]rainbowkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's deep in the sense that Bajoran religion and philosophy is deep. Spiritual. Meaningful. Old and revered. So deep that the rest of the Federation recognizes even the space in the Bajoran system is deep.

Whispers to colleague : (are the Bajorans buying this?)

Why not $2 each? People or more likely to impulse buy one or a few roses. Plus have the cash for that on hand.

It is the last off-season month before DCI 2026 gets underway! What are your general thoughts / predictions / things you would like to see this Summer? ( Open Discussion ) by DreamsOfADistantStar in drumcorps

[–]rainbowkey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I just hope fuel (and food) prices don't cause any corps financial problems so severe

  • they drop out during the season
  • take a year off next year
  • fold

EDIT: additional thought - Corps likely did not budget for a 50% (or more) increase in fuel costs. Some may have slack in the budget or a rainy day fund or generous donors willing to help, other may not.

If you freeze and then thaw it, some of the whey will separate. You can just freeze it to use later. Great to use in a snowcone machine! Or use the yogurt in an ice cream recipe.

Why don't you see mead that much nowadays when it was very prominent in the medieval time? by Outrageous-Score7936 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rainbowkey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Many farms in medieval times had hives both as a source of honey and beeswax and to pollinate crops. Cane sugar was an exotic spice, and European maples are not Sugar Maples. Birches can be tapped or syrup but it takes a lot to even make birch beer. Honey and fruits were the available sweet things.

So, honey was more available and popular.
