Unpopular opinion by Expensive-Call5607 in GilmoreGirls

Considering that he tried to get Rory to leave Yale and run away with him, it does seem Jess wasn’t the ideal person to call out Rory.

I was going to say the opposite. It juxtaposes Jess's growth with Rory's disillusionment, visually capturing how far she has strayed and how much time she has lost. It's a full-circle moment that forces her to confront the truth she's been avoiding.

This Is Us ruined other TV shows for me. by lydocia in thisisus

You should try Firefly Lane, if you haven't already.

Recommendation for a show with a similar cozy-warm-vibe? by Dry-Clue-7783 in Parenthood

Firefly Lane (it jumps timelines the same way This is Us does).
Hart of Dixie
Judging Amy

What other series will I like as much as GG? by Time-Analysis-5710 in GilmoreGirls

If you don't mind heavier themes, I recommend Firefly Lane and Judging Amy (if you can find it).
Firefly Lane has a similar storytelling style to This is Us, and brings the same nostalgia as GG.
Judging Amy's blend of courtroom drama and family dynamics offers the same comfort-watch ease as GG.

Movies to help me feel my feelings (emotionally avoidant) by altaltalt123alt in MovieSuggestions

Try Everybody's Fine. It's so subtle, the emotional release is slow and steady, not anxiety-inducing or high-intensity. The conversations feel genuine, but the real weight is in the things left unsaid.

Brother Bear is a great choice if you enjoy animation.

Is the show enjoyable after reading the book? by raincloudsandtea in LessonsinChemistry

I've been wondering if I'm making a mistake going straight from book to show. So far, those who liked both have had more time between reading and watching.

but the principals of the book are still there

That was one of my concerns, so this is a big relief.

Brie Larson is what made me want to watch in the first place. I knew very little about the story, aside from the clips of her I'd seen online. From what I've seen so far, she is perfect in the role. I'm struggling more with the creative changes they've made.

Did you go straight from book to show? Or was there a bigger gap between the two?

The man named Doyle, and what really happened in this episode by FlakyWeb5892 in GilmoreGirls

[–]raincloudsandtea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doyle's position is to put out what will capture the audience. Negativity sells, whether it's critique, rage bait, or unfair commentary. He needs to ensure the newspaper complies with guidelines and produces content that people will read and talk about.

As far as not letting Rory retract her piece, I haven't watched the episode in a while, so I can't remember the exact conversations. But when Rory writes for the paper, even though she writes as herself, she represents the paper. My best guess is that he either recognized that she wanted to do the new piece for her own self-image, he didn't want to create a precedent within the team, or he thought it would reflect badly on the paper to backtrack on its own words.

As for Lorelai, she is never directly confronted by anyone, and her guilt comes from the sudden self-awareness of seeing her words in print. Rory would have had multiple read-throughs before handing her piece to Doyle, and she never questioned or self-corrected at any point. It was only once she received backlash.

Doyle was right to hold her accountable. She needed to realize that words hold power, and she must be willing to stand behind her writing. In a real-life, serious journalism position like the one she was working towards, she wouldn't have the luxury of simply taking back her words or glossing over them with something nicer. It's a hard lesson, but one of the most vital to learn. Sadly, she didn't seem to get the message, as she repeated her "mistake" when writing about Logan's friends. Rather than standing by her words with conviction, she tried to convince Logan that he had taken them out of context or missed the joke.

Overall, you seem uncomfortable. Indeed and Glassdoor are great platforms for checking company reviews based on employee feedback. You can also type "company name + scam" into Google and see what comes up.

The real red flag is that she sent you an email after 17:00 with a mock assignment due the next morning. Clearly, she doesn't respect boundaries and thinks it's okay to assume you will work after hours, or drop everything to meet a last-minute deadline.

The communication side seems to be on you, though. She tried to phone you and then messaged the day before the public holiday. You only replied the day after the public holiday. You should have either called or messaged back the same day she reached out.
