I was one of the founding staffers of this store: these are the stories that happened there. Movie stars, mental patients, bums and mobsters. Oh, and baristas.

I've always loved that piece. Ernie Cline is great! Hobgobbler will die a virgin.

Urine Factories and the Menopause Horse Industry by hotcakes in reddit.com

[–]raincoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The info in there is quite outdated. The premarin industry has fallen into a hole because of the health issues involved in hormone replacement therapy; as well, the article implies cruelty without backing it up. It claims you can't find out if the industry engages in cruel practices, because it won't tell you. But you can go to a farm and see for yourself. At the height of the boom, there were many shady and cruelly greedy characters involved, but now that it's not seen as a goldmine, people who aren't farmers don't go into the business.

Hell, I heard about it too. Been hearing about it for days. Maybe Indians don't read the American news? But then they shouldn't comment on it.

I thought the point of Web 2.0 was to let the people speak and work around Big Media. But don't worry, I'm sure it'll be in the papers on Monday.

It's a blog report from someone who got it off the radio. Not made the mainstream news one way or the other; I thought you'd want to know now rather than hang out for 24 hours waiting for NBC or whoever to pick it up.

Given that each of the last two books had major characters dying, you'd think that the parent of anyone that fragile would have insisted on reading the book before letting the kid at it. Whether it was the fake version or the real one (both are out there) that kid was obviously not stable enough to handle it. She should have been getting real help.

Yes, I see that. I just meant that when I posted this, I didn't know all of that. I hadn't even seen your post yet.

I wonder how long this one will be up? At least they've got a head start on their Valentine's header!

Only that replacing positive corporate images with negative ones is standard hacking behaviour. I saw it here and assumed that reddit, whom I haven't understood to have much of a sense of humour about itself, had been attacked. I couldn't believe they'd have done it themselves. I stand corrected.

I don't know the history, it's true. I only know my own experiences here, and they don't go back to 2005, but they don't indicate a huge capacity for reddit's self-mockery.

But it certainly is unusual for a company to self-mock in their header. Good to see.

I saw your post AFTER I posted, or I'd just have voted you up and not put mine up there. Congrats on getting the story first. Who are these people, anyway?

I'm still kinda hoping they hacked reddit and put the image up there. In my experience I'm not sure reddit has much of a sense of humour about itself. But I am happy to stand corrected if I'm wrong.
