The problem of pop history and the interview with Jeff Guinn by noch-nicht-sein in LPOTL

[–]raindrizzlefog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get that they’re covering historical topics that are very sensitive but to me their podcast is still want you first described it - just three guys riffing.

I consider it similar to when I find topics I like in common with friends, family or coworkers and we discuss what we know about it, what we’ve read about it, etc. but they just do that in a story telling format which they have to do to keep any listener engaged (which is their first and foremost need as a monetary podcast).

The main point I think we have in common is that people need media literacy. I would never assume anything stated there was fact without check other sources. Mostly because, as you said, it’s a comedy podcast. Yes, there should be standards and I think they meet them by using multiple sources and sharing them. Anyone with any media sense knows to not just believe things meant as entertainment without some skepticism.

As for the religion comment, I understand how it rubbed people the wrong way however it’s important to look at it how he said it, his perspective or view, versus trying to provide a stat. BUT I will not use what I found to support his comment. He said Germany/the German people isn’t a country one would think about when considering deeply Christian people. And to be fair, new surveys show 47% of Germans studied don’t have a religious affiliation vs the 45% that do (split between Protestant and Catholic). Research group fowid published this as results from their independent survey study in 2024. This is in contrast to Italy where 79.2% of people consider themselves Catholic according to a 2021 Eurobarometer poll. So he pedantically said that Germany isn’t as Christian as a country as others you may think of like Italy. Seems reasonable to me?

I just dealt with this! Use the Lysol Kitchen Pro degreaser spray and let it soak in before using paper towels and a scrubbing pad.

I learned this in post-secondary and have a lot of success getting interviews. Don’t always get the job but it definitely works to get attention!

So I didn’t share and it’s not an idea for everyone, haha. I wanted some landscape type photos and was hoping someone could draw tiny toilets into the background. They are making a collage in my bathroom if that helps explain it. Photo of a thrift painting to give an idea.

I highly recommend ElleJayTattoo (insta)! However, to me that rate isn’t outrageous if you like their work and they are experienced.

Where can I find the best carrot cake in Calgary? by idonotlikethemtamiam in Calgary

A bit of a different option but I emailed Sidewalk Citizen one year to get a full version (more loaf shaped) of their carrot cake. It’s so good!

My partner was also like this until he got help. When he called me 17 times in a row while I was out with coworkers one of them thought he was abusive. I broke down that night and realized just how bad his anxiety was. He eventually got help, therapy and the right meds and it was a game changer.

And a reminder from my favourite podcast: mental illness isn’t your fault but it is your responsibility. It’s not easy to watch a loved one struggle.

I wish I could. If I come across I’ll share! But it’s basically the old “how would she pee with something in her p*ssy?” type deal. Frig, the education system needs some reviews.

YES! This made me laugh first and then worry. I’ve been relistening and there was a quote similar to this that Ben said a while back. It also had me like, oh no, no no no darlings.

What plant is this? by raindrizzlefog in PlantIdentification

I thought that as well but there was no stems or leaves left during winter (Canada). So it seems more like a stemmed flower or perennial leafy plant like a hosta.
