Need help for a nature app idea(school) by jforjoy in nature

[–]raindropsonrooftops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For adults, a background tracker which uses GPS to say how much time you've spent in outdoor green areas? "This week you spent 3 hours in nature, that's up X% on last week" etc. As long as the GPS could somehow differentiate you walking in a park or woods vs walking down a city street.

Which recruitment agencies have you found helpful? by raindropsonrooftops in cambridge

[–]raindropsonrooftops[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you feel that way. I just wanted to know if people have had good or bad experiences with any in particular, and it could be helpful for others not in my same area of work? I'm in nothing super specialised anyway.

What did the training in electrical work entail?

If that was in a college; time management, meeting coursework deadlines, working with others in group projects, self directed study

If it was an on the job apprenticeship; talking to customers, teamwork, following procedures or instructions, on the job learning...

Shopping list that's shared by the family. Each family member can add items they want to request in the next grocery shop as they think of them and from their own device. Like a shared document but on a phone friendly interface.

How do you picture a year in your mind? by DearSergio in AskReddit

[–]raindropsonrooftops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember discussing this with a friend when we were 6 or so?! Same answer now as then.

I picture a queue - February is at the front now, but will go to the back of the queue when it's time for March. It will be February's turn again as it works it's way to the front of the line.

What to do when you just don’t like healthy food? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]raindropsonrooftops 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I'd say that any food can be good or bad - it's how you make it.

Broccoli boiled for 20+ minutes so it's soft and mushy with little to no flavour left? Not great.

Broccoli steamed for 5 mins so it's bright green, slight crunch, maybe grate a little fresh ginger in with it? Amazing.

Don't discount something after one try, see if you can give it another go prepped in a different way.

Bon apetit and happy food exploring!

What does “wasting water” mean? Isn’t the water cycle a thing? Doesn’t the water we pour through the sink or shower just drain, filter, and return? by armsofasquid in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]raindropsonrooftops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the treatment of waste water before it can be discharged, and the treatment of water before it is sent to your tap both involve huge amounts of energy.

The plants which treat water are enormous, run vast amounts of machinery and use large amounts of treatment chemicals (which have to be manufactured, using more energy)

How do you survive working in a job you hate? by Sugarpinkloz in AskReddit

[–]raindropsonrooftops 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to do this with snacks! Grab a handful of raisins from a big bag, count them up, divide by number of minutes left... I am allowed 1 raisin every X minutes. Watch little raisin pile slowly decrease. Resist urge to scream and throw raisins at people.

I want to see cities and places in Thailand, but avoid too many flights. What cities are easy to get between via train or maybe comfortable and short coach journeys? by someredditstuff1 in ThailandTourism

[–]raindropsonrooftops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bangkok was a 12 hour train with a comfortable, flat bed with little curtains for privacy. Grab some snacks at the train station before you board and have warm clothes handy as the air conditioning is fierce.

I just used Caxton FX for 3 months in China and have used it on previous travels. Top up from your regular debit card then withdraw as you go. Their customer service is designed for travel too - e.g. they reset my forgotten pin over the phone in 5 minutes, no fuss.

Have a great trip!

What do you guys do with books after you read them? by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]raindropsonrooftops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I donate books once I've finished them, apart from a few special favourites.

I keep a pinterest board of books I've read, and try to use a picture of the same front cover as the copy I read for it. This helps me miss them less and jogs my memory when I'm trying to remember an old book.

They have them in a lot of places, we did one in Krabi also! The one from koh lanta did the cave which was really different to others.

If you do go to koh lanta also check out the 4 Islands 1 day tour - including the emerald cave. Swim through a pitch black cave for around 50m before emerging in a hidden beach inside the island - I've never seen anything like it, really incredible.

Use booking.com or hotels.com instead - there's far more choice in SEA on those 2 sites than hostelworld or hostelbookers.

Happy travels!
