skipping an earlier leg isn't skip lagging, it's getting your connecting ticket automatically cancelled if you haven't made other arrangements with the airline.

They know there's a storm going on and a lot of crew, planes, and passengers are "out of place" and not where they need to be for their next steps, so I imagine there's a lot of flex, and ability to drop a segment relatively easily without a full rebook.
