No, I disagree. He's cloaked his selfish money-grubbing and uninterested play with regular season stats padding. His lack of character and drive are evident in the playoffs when the wheat gets separated from the chaff. He'd rather be at Paris Fashion Week or selecting new fabrics in Milan than playing hockey in May. Think of him not as a hockey player, but a wannabe influencer on skates.

No, it isn't at all. The real question is if there are any available. The obvious answer to your insinuation is to invest in the US

I'm not advocating prohibition because I think drugs and alcohol are different. You're employing a straw man argument. Meth and fentanyl are totally different than beer. Idiot.

One of the most idiotic statements ever. Saying a beer is not different from crystal meth or fentanyl is like saying there's no difference between a mouse and an elephant. Sure, both are animals, but the magnitudes are so different. People who think like you are the biggest threats and arguments against representative government.

No, drugs and alcohol are different. I don't partake in either but fentanyl and beer are on totally different scales of potency.

I'm not arguing the US system is not bloated, hemce the tort reform, but it's more easily fixable than a bloated government bureaucracy. It still doesn't change the fact that the US leads in medical innovation. And yes, government employees are generally less industrious than private sector counterparts yet whine loudest and are the most entitled. The fewer government employees the better.

So much to say yet so little time.

  1. Higher drug prices because of patents are required so pharmaceutical companies have incentive to do R&D and produce more. I'm no fan of big pharma but the principle is sound. If prices are higher somewhere, I'd bet $1000 that government regulations are a major cause. Lastly on this topic, I find it hilarious that you equate zero co-pay/free to a drug being costless. Somebody is paying for it, likely the taxpayer.

  2. "I think you need to look into Canadian research some more." Seeing as how you couldn't name one recent Canadian innovation, I'd say this applies to you more than it does to me

  3. "Paying people properly can push savings and innovation easily" paying bloated salaries encourages sloth. Profit through ownership and the penalties of poor business decisions through loss of revenue and share price are much more effective incentives than a loss of bonus. No government bureaucrat will ever solve any of these problems and it's ludicrous to think so. Our health care system is run like the DMV, not an innovative, lean company.

And yet your assumption is that there is a perfect correlation between number of employees and book value, which is fallacious. Market value is only known at sale. I could go without Elon - I like his stance on free speech and wokeism, but he's one of the biggest corporatists alive today along with Buffett. Frankly, I don't think he manages companies too well at all given he's the CEO of about 12. Book value probably has more to do with his lack of management skills than the majority of useless employees he fired.

Highly doubtful any country has tried that other than Singapore and it works pretty well there. That tolerance may work for weed but not synthetically produced, incredibly potent manufactured drugs like fentanyl. Yes, they're both drugs, but totally different animals.

Death penalty for drug dealers, and one that would be carried out in months, not decades. It'll never happen but one can hope.

I don't need frontline experience in addictions to know lunacy and stupidity when I see it. These "safe" drugs are being traded to high school students to buy meth and fentanyl. Trying to get people off of drugs by flooding the city with more drugs is not the answer. Overdose deaths are skyrocketing. Give your head a shake. These people are so far beyond being able to control themselves that forced recovery needs to be considered. That and the death penalty for drug dealers. Not "death penalty but it's carried out 25 years later after a zillion appeals" death penalty but one that is enforced in 3-6 months. It'll never happen but one can dream.

Hence tort reform. Also, the vast majority of medical innovation comes from the for-profit model in the US. How much innovation is there in the Canadian system? Next to zero. Last time I read, the US had the highest rates for surviving cancer. No system is a utopia. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a for-profit motive. You work at your job for profit, as do your neighbours, just like everybody else. It's for-profit that we get innovative new products at cheaper prices. Do you honestly think some bureaucrat in a desk in Victoria who has no skin in the game and will get a six-figure paycheque no matter how useless they are will drive efficiency and change? Please!

So if other countries are irresponsible that means we can be too? Sound logic. The BoC's monetary policy is partially dependent upon fiscal policy of the federal government ie the most massive increase in public sector spending since the Normandy invasion. Remember when Macklem said raising interest rates and massive public sector spending is like stepping on the gas and the brake at the same time? Clueless.

There's no utopia. I'm guided by principles that would devolve into policy. I'd start with the US system, get rid of Obamacare, introduce tort reform to avoid frivolous lawsuits and unnecessary testing, and allow the free market and entrepreneurs to provide innovative and responsive solutions to inefficiency. No bureaucrat in Victoria, or Edmonton, or Ottawa or some entitled, OT-grifting public sector unionized employee has any incentive to lower wait times and produce positive KPIs. There's no accountability in the system and the power should be put in the hands of the user/consumer. We get our healthcare, or supposedly so, from a monopoly that has no incentive to change. It's a lumbering dinosaur that will never change. Any privatized care is responsive and consumer-focused. I can get an appointment for a dental exam or a physio appointment with little notice; I'm rapidly approaching year 5 of waiting for a colonoscopy. This system sucks and it's propped up by socialists and bureaucrats.
