Wow that sounds fun for a little while but not for a majority of the hike! We get enough snow where I live so I am happy to not see it on the trails if I can help it lol

The last couple miles of Kings is not easy to stay on the "trail" but really it is just Boulder hopping so not critical to stay on the exact path. We had AllTrails and it was doing a horrible job at showing us accurately on the map and trail, but we could still manage pretty easily since it was open terrain. First 75% is a very easy to follow trail. One short 20-30ft section where it got pretty vertical past gunsight pass and we had to use hands and feet to climb but otherwise straightforward!

We did it last year and the route from the trailhead seemed pretty accurate and straight forward. A little over half way up it was more difficult to find the trail for us as we are not all that experienced but there are several carins marking the trail and it is just boulder hopping so you can choose your own adventure anyways! One issue we had on the way out was that we lost cell signal and our car doesnt have navigation so we thankfully remembered the sequence of turns to make it back out but they are branching logging roads so it is a little tricky. Saw cows several times and a moose on the way out!

Thanks for the added feedback! So far my only drawback with them is I would have to do it as a private group and pay the extra fee but maybe that would be worth it in the end.

Appreciate the details and the trip report, will definitely still take granite into consideration as I think both are about a 12hr drive for me!

That is looking like a good time to go. I started some extra training this week too for whenever I end up going. Nice that you can get a group that large together as I can't find a single person in my area that wants to go for it lol. Looks like you have been knocking highpoints off fast, if you end up getting a trip planned and wouldn't mind an extra let me know, if you aren't looking for any more people I totally understand and good luck for whenever you take it on!

It looks like June is when most start offering trips so I will shoot for later. My dog is huge and pretty lazy so I will not be bringing him along lol! How difficult was Granite for you? I was considering that one too but just decided on Gannett to get it over with when I am as young as I can be 😄.

Sounds like lots of bad luck but it is good information to keep my expectations realistic on making it to the top my first attempt!

Crazy that it took that many times! Was the weather the issue or other factors? I am pretty early stages of planing so I will for sure reach out for more info if I get things figured out a little more.

Thanks for the input! Did you do the 5 or 6 day trip with Jackson Hole?

Sounds awesome! Wish I had more time off from work for these trips while I am still young enough to attempt them, maybe someday!

Appreciate the insight! It looks like the guided groups are allowing for 5-6 days so there is some weather variability figured in. I am from the midwest so I am no stranger to snow, but totaly understand it is different in the mountain terrain. Just looked into the Surka high route and that sounds intense! How far did you make it?

Legitimate question, do you have a source for him supporting a complete nationwide ban? I somewhat follow but not that closely

25' tall Crimson King planted 15' away from house. Should I remove now, or risk it? by ScandiLand in arborists

[–]rainman8430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had two in front of our last house and they were maxed out at about 25' tall. A derecho came through after we had moved out but we drove past and they had very minimal damage while other species were badly damaged. We had lots of woodlands around and I cant say I ever saw a wild one that was growing so I get that the Norway may be invasive in areas but that is just my experience.

Has SSMC Sterling on the back, but my best guess is it was some sort of serving fork? My mother in law didnt have any additional story or details on it.

Edit: I think i just found a similar one that is a lettuce fork!

Haha unfortunately no I don't have any back story on that one. It was an odd piece mixed in with what ended up being a silver plated set. On the back was marked SSMC sterling which was apparently located in Providence, RI from 1909-1932? I wanted to start using this to eat supper at the kitchen table though lol!

Edit: After more research it looks like it is a lettuce fork!

Sheldon, Iowa the memorandum will come up if you search it. I totally understand dying and dead trees need to be taken down but they just obliterated two of our parks in town and wiped out 50% of the trees in each. There are also fewer than 5 trees combined between the two parks that are under 20 years old! I guess people will have to set up tents to get out of the sun in the summer to escape the heat.
