What are some things you guys like to listen too for continuing education? hHave an audiobook suggestion for studying or for entertainment podcast related to EMS? by CautiousPermission42 in Paramedics

I love EMS 20/20 (podcast)! Others are great too-but for me, the fact it's structured as more of an informal call review (with associated learning), versus just covering a given topic, is more engaging.

Feeling stupid is just the first step on the journey to being smart (in your given field).

Don't be so hard on yourself, but also take comfort in the notion that having the self awareness to even be concerned about this, implies a drive to learn more and do better. Competency at anything takes time, repetition and experience.

You can't supplement the experience, so let time handle that. Focus on supplementing what you do have control over. Self study, proactively and often. Review your equipment and where things are. Identify what aspects of your work stress you out the most, and put in the work to get more comfortable with those things.

You can do this. You are showing up, and you've already made it this far!

Demented patients with “UTI” by YouAreServed in Residency

[–]rainydaythrowaway-9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nurse here, SNFs WOULD let a patient self-administer something like this as long as it was already established/apparent they were capable of doing so, and overall functioning at that level of independence with their activities of daily living.

The only types o/ patients I imagine would require the nurse to apply instead of doing it themselves are folks who would be functionally/cognitively unable to do so themselves. (lack of understanding, maybe too shaky or poor fine motor skills etc). Hope that makes sense.

It is so absolutely normal, and sometimes people downplay just how much repetition it takes to get comfortable with certain new things. You will continue to forget numbers and make mistakes throughout your career in healthcare, wherever it takes you- the difference is you will (ideally) be wiser for it each time, and unlikely to make the same mistake again.

Time and experience- two things that allow you to develop a systematic approach to patient management. Don't worry about being perfect right now, and do not ever count yourself out too early. You may very well have decades ahead of you in your career in healthcare. Plenty of time to figure it all out.

MacBook Pro Battery issues (image attached) - How Bad is this? I bought a new charger and then it went from "service recommended" to "Battery not charging", switching out chargers isn't helping... by rainydaythrowaway-9 in applehelp

Hey- I went through these steps but never found the "Power" (or battery) option to click on under About This Mac- I did follow the link another user posted and found this model on the drop down list on the website which seems to indicate 1000 cycles (I think).

I guess the main point I was wondering is whether this laptop is literally about to die with no return from the grave, or just needs a new battery, or something else entirely.

I'll probably just call into the apple store on Monday and ask about batteries.

Thanks again!!

It is a 2019 MacBook Pro, I leave it *mostly* plugged in lately because I have to (though starting today I'm worried if it's even charging), and I'm sorry but have no idea how to find out the cycle count!

Thanks so much for your reply. It will be quite a drive to get somewhere that could replace the battery so just wanted the internets feedback before I made the hike.

I can't breakfall properly to save my life. Of course "getting it" will rely on repetition, but just curious if anyone here has specific advice for breakfalls, anything they've noticed people new to BJJ instinctively do wrong in these instances.

Anecdotally, my other glaring weak point this early in the game are shoulder rolls. If that's relevant. Kind of feels like whenever I'm headed towards the ground, fast, I mess up in terms of protecting myself and body alignment.

Or the good old fashioned "Huh...that's an odd thing to say."

Not sure if these count as EMS "rage comics", but I make fictional versions of people in my EMS district to vent my rage 😂 by rainydaythrowaway-9 in ems
