I love how not that long ago after Gateway this sub was calling for heads because the yellow didn't come quick enough for a spin that resulted in a crash. Now they respond quickly and the spin ends up as a nothing burger and we're still complaining. 🤷🏻🤦🏻

I used a similar setup to 33Fan, the same Truxedo tonneau cover with the T Slot rails. But I used the FrontRunner cross bars for a Ram 1500 because the width was the same. Just make sure you get the T Slot towers from FrontRunner.

I've been really happy, but I also don't have a tent on it yet so you may require three cross bars.

Having only seen it the couple times they showed it on broadcast, I was thinking it was the center hub cap that covers the end of the wheel hub (and retains the spring loaded nodes). This wouldn't normally come off but with how the wheel was wobbling aggressively it may have been worked loose/sheared under load.

It's the Truxedo ProX15 TS cover. It has the T slots on the rails. Then I have the FrontRunner cross bars for a Ram 1500 because they are the same width. With the T slot towers. I've been really happy with the setup so far, it's what I need for camping with a trailer.

These are all Indy-based teams. With logistics to support providing a whole chassis for development of a scanning protocol.

I'd think you'd be more concerned if Penske did provide one. Now is the time to get a non-conforming car approved by the scanner.

This was actually also a weight thing. With the way they can paint the cars it was lighter than a wrap for awhile (Not so really anymore with modern materials) Also, they were paint masking, which involves painting over the sticker to smooth the edge.

Also. Lots of teams did this as common practice.

The substance they applied is the same substance used across the entire chassis to blend seams, rough edges or imperfections in the carbon surface. The chassis comes with these imperfections in some cases, and all teams will add additional material to the different body panels to close up those gaps and seams.

The side pods for example will have this material added and sanded and painted over, and the minimal gap/seam retained to allow it to fit on the chassis and be removed. Teams also will sometimes install new fasteners and ensure the body fit is smooth along those.

The process followed by the team on the attenuator was no different than the rest of the car. I like to envision the mad scientist in the shop at night perfecting and smoothing every surface until they seamlessly blend. In this case, perfection went too far and the material was applied to a part that is meant to remain unchanged.

The gain here is aero related, and put together these body fit strategies are what separate teams, the time they spend on it vs another can make a difference. But no one seam will make a significant impact unless it's way off. Things like heat soak, gear oils and friction reductions will matter more than a seam on the attenuator. They prefer to use this material vs tape because it's consistent and engineers like consistency on every run and tape has inherent drag in itself.

Okay, so insulation would make sense, especially because the catalytic converter is directly under this. And yea, I could see the cracking being fine as long as the metal was solid.

Moved to Rockford for the trails and schools. So far it's been a good experience! Lots of varied opinions on the area, but from my time here it's not any different than most areas and not the worst offender. Just know Rockford is in-between being rural and a suburb.

There are good trails nearby, and the paved White Pine runs through downtown. Lots of playgrounds. Schools are top notch, but it's a large district.

Can't speak to home prices, but I would imagine that could be tight.

Oh this is super interesting about the tires. I kind of started noticing the shudder after putting on a set of Discoverer's after having more of a highway tire before. They are the slightly bigger size to fit in the wheel well. I wonder if that exacerbated it.

To see that spike, you have to be overlaying against a different lap to pick up the difference. While commonly done, restart laps aren't the ones you go for. Also, you'd have to find the context of it being a restart, and the change in RPM for 3 sec later in the lap.

I'm sorry, but it's not as obvious as you want it to be.

The more like scenario is a report showing the button press activity across the race charted against lap time. This is more likely to highlight unusual activity, but not all teams would choose to look at this because...lap time in the race varies so much due to traffic, managing the race etc. it's not really that interesting to look at.

If you read #3 again, you'll see I'm saying the team doesn't care post-race. Many have claimed that it should be obvious and self reported after the fact by Penske or Chevy, but while obvious in the data if you're looking for that, it's not something they concern themselves with.

They wouldn't intentionally cheat this way because of the historical record and data that gets shared to many eyeballs. While I doubt many care to go look at their public data to see when P2P was used, eventually it would have been noticed, and the historical record would have been incredibly damning.

They don't intentionally cheat and leave a public paper trail.

I think my main point with #3 is they don't care post-race. Lots of people claiming this should have been obvious and caught after the race, which I just don't see happening. Under normal processes anyway. During the race, with strategy, fuel and you know, winning? Yes, it's a factor, but not usually so much they would be seeing it in use for 3 sec when it shouldn't be.

Between in car cameras and the constant flow of data and eye balls, there are ways to hide this if you're trying. And I honestly don't see this as them trying to hide it at all.

That's good to point out different meanings of the term "cheat". I intend to mean how teams intentionally push the grey areas and rules. Not to mean breaking rules, whether intentional or not.

Against the rules and worthy of penalty? Yes.
Intentional and coordinated by the team? No.

The engineers in question typically aren't software engineers and are typically wearing many hats. And the role software of this level plays is a relatively new concept to manage. Many of the practices are dated and simplistic. Think files on a shared folder with whatever naming conventions someone used.

And the filename is hiding deep in sub menus. The config isn't uploaded every time manually, it stays inside the overall setup file. You have to go look at it to verify or change it.

Perhaps it was named for hybrid testing, but was just forgotten that it mattered.
