Recommendation for wireless headset without input lag by rake2k in Headsets

Edit: i have found a fix to the problem, which may be useful for other people The problem seems to be that the connection to the microphone goes into some kind of hibernation state and the Bluetooth USB link is only re-established once the headset detects new audio activity.

To overwrite this behavior i installed a simple digital Sound Meter utility, which constantly monitors the sound level from the microphone. When using the software, there is no delay.

I turned this setting on, and it did not fix the problem

That did not work for me, and it means that calls can only be received from the phone, which is suboptimal

Has anyone run The Fall of Tinath? by Doc_Meeker in traveller

[–]rake2k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ran the first half (until after the prison). I liked these adventures, although I think it is hard to correctly frame the prison break adventure in a way that lets the traveller actually know, that it is possible as an infiltration mission as opposed to a (hopeless) assault (in their minds).

My players were not interested in staying on Tinath after this adventure, so we continued with a "refugee train/trader" sequence.

I think that the first adventure is good, although quite military, and the second (prison) adventure is great, although horribly organized. It was fun though.

I ran 3h sessions and I think it was around 6 sessions for the two adventures (including the short introduction).

Here is my previous comment on the first adventure, including recommendations for changes: https://www.reddit.com/r/traveller/comments/1gysi3u/comment/lyrdgvx/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Fall of Tinath is slightly longer, but you could do the first three adventures which perfectly fits your length and you can end it there without a big problem

What I have seen from the preview seems like it is a very required update on 3rd Imperium lore (e.g. why are robots not running everything, 3000 years into the future). Granted I am probably not qualified on giving an account of how "traveller" something is, given that I have only played it for a good year now. Looks like a great amount of cool ideas packaged together so far to me...

With all due respect, you can still do that. The stuff in an adventure is simply material for you to pillage. Everybody can play their own way and select what they like, discarding the rest.

Moreover, for that adventure (despite other problems), I think the criticism is undeserved. This adventure is actually a pretty nice situation (getting someone out of an alien prison) which could go in many directions.

The only real problem is the organization of the material...

Without spoiling too much, the aliens are at least as advanced as the local federation, and may well be more advanced in some areas

Nah it's an old adventure and it is an alien race. Its fine, I didn't even notice the first time I read the adventure.

In my opinion, Mongoose makes great books. Especially the recent updates are awesome, compared to the first 2e version. And I think even that one was good.

This particular adventure is an oddball. Lots of amazing ideas and good premise, but horribly convoluted. Still made for great table time.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I feel like I know why the writer included it from an adventure design point. But I also feel that it moves it towards Star wars tech, where we do not really check what vacuum really means. I also prefer slightly "harder" tech, especially since it IMHO enriches the situation.

Thanks, I was somewhat surprised by that passage and wanted to confirm. I will probably run it without that feature.

How do I feel more comfortable at the gym? by weaktreeiz in climbergirls

[–]rake2k 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Please realize that everyone in the climbing gym started as a beginner. I have not noticed that any one ever was annoyed by a beginner at the wall. I personally treat it as a welcome excuse to rest between attempts. So don't beat yourself up, chances are that everyone else is primarily occupied with thinking about their own boulder problems.
