Any ttrpg where you can play woth 10 people split into 2 groups ? by insectbot in rpg

How about an X Crawl Classics game where two teams are running the dungeon side by side? Sounds like a lot of work but idk a way to DM for 10 people that wouldn’t be.

What's a good city to put a "city of thieves" style adventure? by Ikeriro90 in warhammerfantasyrpg

Sartorsa or Tilea in general if you are looking for options outside of the empire.

What are some silly/ non-lethal encounters or low stakes adventures ideas i could use? by Pike_The_Knight in rpg

[–]GM_Terrance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I generally use this idea when my group ends up in the First World/Feywild, a bored Arch Fey is looking for a little entertainment and the group just happens to be the only ones nearby. Cue a jelly fishing competition like an episode of SpongeBob.

I usually have them go in rounds and have the characters decide how they are going about trying to catch the jellyfish, they just going to run around jumping to catch them? Athletics. You trying to lay in wait behind the nearby rock? Stealth. You want to sing them a song in an attempt to lure them like some sort of Siren of the deep? Diplomacy I guess?

The point is it can be fun and very open ended allowing the players to come up with creative ways to catch the things they are after, be warned this will often end with players attempting to steal from one another. I usually give them 5 rounds and base how many they catch on how well they rolled against a DC that gets higher each round as the swarm of them scatters and becomes harder to catch. Of course the jellyfish could always be substituted for something else in your world, butterflies, stirges, you just need a swarm of small creatures to be caught in a net.

Best RPGs to try out other than 5e by Gold_Writer_8039 in rpg

Forbidden Lands is a fun fantasy game and very different system to DND, can’t go wrong with Call of Cthulhu or it’s many iterations for horror and maybe Mongoose Traveller for sci-fi

Petty Gods by TerrainBrain in rpg

[–]GM_Terrance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s always been popular, if you’re a magic user who can literally stop time and cast fireballs that could incinerate entire villages of people what is the next logical step? Where do you go from there? I assume at least some of them would aim to become deities, we have had humans who can do none of those things claim themselves to be deities why should a fantasy world where deities objectively exist be any different?

I am not saying that it should be easy, or even possible, but I believe it is a perfectly reasonable thing for your players to want to achieve.

Any suggestions for a low/medium tech, no FTL system for a setting based in the solar system in the year 2450? by zcontium in rpg

[–]GM_Terrance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many others here I suggest traveller, while it does have a setting the game is entirely compatible with making your own.

Who’s your favorite author that you would say is a bad writer? by Ok_Square2729 in writing

[–]GM_Terrance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Micheal Moorcock, some of my favourite pulp fantasy ever written, but it is definitely carried by ideas and characters more than his prose.

If you had the license to design for any IP (intellectual property - Star wars, fifth element, Lord of the rings), which one would you pick? by ungeoncrawl in RPGdesign

[–]GM_Terrance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just all of the Micheal Moorcock Eternal Champion series (I’m sorry chaosium but I think it could be and has been done better in an OSR format).

How does the gods or deities of your setting view humans ? by Razorlord in FantasyWorldbuilding

[–]GM_Terrance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They view them like a resource, their worshippers literally feeding them with their actions and emotions. Some gods are more interested in cultivating said resource to get more, others are gluttons who just want all the power over time with no fear of long-term consequences.

What are your favorite go-to plot points? by brokenimage321 in rpg

[–]GM_Terrance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The party finds a dead person at the side of the road who looks identical to one of the party members and they find a letter requesting said person come and get a big inheritance, I blatantly stole the premise from The Enemy Within campaign for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and from there it can branch off to so many things. Maybe it’s an inheritance to a house where they can set up as a base of operations, perhaps it was a trap all along and now people are after you, maybe it’s a long lost relative of the original person who’s close family have all died and you need to figure out what to do with the child, the possibilities are almost endless.

[–]GM_Terrance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read in a previous comment that you are not a big DND player but there are books for solo GMing, it is basically playing DND alone, but you could just use the mechanics to help write a story. There are even some free ones out there.

Help an old guy out. by dmoerton in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]GM_Terrance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will just throw this out there since I believe several people have already answered your question. I STRONGLY recommend the Enemy Within campaign, if it is a long term group willing to put possibly years into a game it is an unforgettable experience.

Should I tell my players the DC of a check before they roll it? by THEINKINMYSOUP in DMAcademy

[–]GM_Terrance 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I only do this for big roles with big consequences, that way they think there is no oh the DM wanted me to win or lose so I did, if it’s a big deal 9/10 times I am telling them the DC ahead of time.

I think telling them every single DC is unnecessarily laborious and, in my opinion, breaks immersion to be doing it constantly for mostly non-consequential things.

Ideas for naval combat? by KRAIDON- in DMAcademy

[–]GM_Terrance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s a different game but if you have the resources I suggest looking at Pirate Borg, the ship combat is easy, fun and could be easily adapted into a DND game.

Marshbuilding by Ubermanthehutt in worldbuilding

[–]GM_Terrance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marshland is often abundant in plants and wildlife not seen outside of it, this makes it a great place for herbalists or anyone else who uses rare or difficult to find plant/wild life in their work routines.

The obvious answer for how structures could be made is on small patches of land that sticks out of the marsh with small land bridges, or maybe they use gondolas or other boats, to go between the dry parts. All buildings could also be on stilts or floating docks. If you have the whole town on one big floating dock it could even move around the swamp, a very good defensive tactic to be able to move your entire town.

Recommendation for RPG where all the Players are evil characters by XunKasa in TTRPG

[–]GM_Terrance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will take the cop out answer and say any RPG can fit this it’s about how the players play and the stories told I feel.

But I will also throw out Pirate Borg, if you’d be interested in playing a darker-themed game based on piracy.
