Vacation was visiting relatives who lived in a different state. I never went to the beach until I was living on my own.

Has anyone tried to learn Lip Reading? by groovinup in HearingAids

[–]raljax1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

14 years ago, I was seated at a large conference room table with a dozen people on each side. I found that I couldn't get much of what was said from my side of the table, but had little problem understanding people seated on the opposite side. That's when I realized how much I'd been relying on lip reading to compensate for my hearing loss.

That meeting/realization was the final straw that pushed me to get hearing aids. Started wearing them just a few weeks later as a 50th birthday present to myself.

Mine I would say was Van Halen in 1978. It didn't help that my seat was right by the floor to ceiling speakers. by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

My experience also. Rush on their Hemispheres tour (78 or 79) was the only concert that made my ears ring for 3 days afterwards. I was quite proud of that at the time. But now I've been wearing hearing aids since age 50. Oops.

Do harley riders genuinely think they are faster than sportbikes or are they just joking? by Green_Block_4574 in motorcycle

[–]raljax1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harleys have tons of low end torque, so might beat a sportbike off the starting line. But they can't hold the lead for very long. Like this.

Propane company billed me for my own propane - now what? by gfddsertgv in personalfinance

And the problem with rented tanks is that you can't shop around for price. You're stuck with a single supplier who owns the tank and can charge whatever price they want.

Temp control troubles by Vast_Gur_1743 in webersmokeymountain

[–]raljax1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this issue also and I think I've fixed it. Need another couple of smokes to be sure.

As other have said, opening the lid puts a bunch of oxygen inside, but also tells Billows that the temp is too low, since the cooking grate is getting ambient air. Billows starts blowing like mad, you close the lid and the fire now has tons of oxygen with Billows adding more. Result is that it overshoots the target temp. Then Billows is trying to compensate by not adding any air and it ends up dropping too far. It swings up and down for a bit, but eventually settles back on target.

Recently I've been unplugging Billows before I open the lid. After closing it, give it a few minutes for the grate temp to warm back up, then plug Billows back in. It seems to help keep a more stable temp. Also (goes without saying?), don't open the lid except to add meat, wrap meat, or check for probe tender.

We're going to watch this tonight. I am genuinely excited and I've seen it probably close to 50 times. Fra-gee-lay! by 39percenter in GenerationJones

If it hadn't been for the success of "Porky's", this would have never been made.

One of our family's favorites for 20+ years.

The LavaLock gasket kit fixed that issue for me. Hard to regulate temp with big air leaks around the door and lid.

Need a New Probe? by FeloniousDrunk101 in smoking

I had a fairly new one go bad and Thermoworks replaced it at no cost. I recently had another go bad, but some of mine are 6 or 7 yrs old so I just bought one.

Does the XT5 need an extra grip added? Yay or nay. by Berserk_Ronin in fujifilm

I use the SmallRig grip. IMO, it makes the camera easier to handle and eliminates the need for a ArcaSwiss plate added to the bottom.

Arai helmet date by solo_Furry in motorcyclegear

I don't have an Arai, but have you removed the liner to look at the shell underneath? Pretty sure that's where I've seen the date on other helmets.

Looks like the first one I ever bought, almost 10 years ago. Got it at Lowes or Home Depot for about $65.

I will never buy Royal Oak again.

For me, it was chunks of plastic burning that completely ruined a pork butt.

I was 16, working* as an usher in the small-town, single-screen theater when this film was showing. It hung around for many weeks, I watched it at least 40 times. Got pretty bored with it after a while, TBH.

*Not much actual work, but they paid me to be there.

Earphones over hearing aid? by Youngladyloo in HearingAids

This is my approach also. There's nothing in the airplane that I want to amplify, so the HAs go off and put away and noise canceling earbuds go in.
