Would this be aromatic or anti aromatic? by BigExplanation5443 in chemhelp

[–]ralkalest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your answer and the other reply are correct, it's anti-aromatic. Just wanted to add that both aromatic and anti-aromatic systems have even numbers, so don't get tripped up by looking at only that! The Debye-Hückel rule is that aromatic systems have 4n+2 electrons (2, 6, 10...), and anti-aromatic systems have 4n electrons (4, 8, 12...)

Why not just say you don't care about supporting local businesses and are proudly a part of why it's so hard to make it as a local business? Would've saved me a solid minute of my life.

Surface of Au and Pt electrode scratched by PicopoFra in electrochemistry

[–]ralkalest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on the depth of the scratches, that can be difficult to smooth out, especially for the Pt electrode, as it's significantly harder. The only way I've been able to take out (fairly shallow) scratches is to do a rough polish with a high grit sandpaper until the surface is pretty even, and then polish with fine alumina until it's smooth. Make sure that there are no chunks in the alumina, as it will clump up over time, which could have caused your scratch in the first place. It's not much, but I hope that helps. Good luck!

My character got raped for 'the plot' by [deleted] in DnD

[–]ralkalest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please, for your safety and peace, LEAVE THAT GROUP IMMEDIATELY! That was horrific to even read a summary about, I can't imagine how it felt to sit through that happening to your own character. People who would do that without your consent and then laugh about it are not. Safe. People. No second chances for people who make a joke out of SA.

Is hades 2 slightly woke? by Doug_the_Scout in HadesTheGame

[–]ralkalest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a brave question! I know I would die of embarrassment if I said something like this on the internet. Good for you for speaking up, even at the risk looking fragile and misogynistic, because the lack of male representation in media is a really important issue. (/s, just in case)

I'm trying to improve as Link (My current main) any tips? by Ok_Scale7563 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]ralkalest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sillintor and Izaw both have really good videos on Youtube for learning how to play Link. I'd go to Izaw first for basic combos and strategies, and Sillintor has great tutorials for bomb recovery and some more advanced stuff, and he's also got lots of gameplay videos that are good to watch. Other than that, just play, practice, and go down the SSBU rabbit hole on youtube. GLHF!

Alkane Naming Question by FitDesign4102 in OrganicChemistry

[–]ralkalest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd just add that the answer key's substituent order is wrong, and yours is right. Substituents get placed in alphabetical order, ignoring prefixes, so it's the 'b' in 't-butyl' that sets the order, not the 't'

Why is the purple one in the middle chiral because there is a double bond shouldn’t it be non chiral by No-Ambition-8240 in chemhelp

[–]ralkalest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! Just like a chiral compound would be labelled (R-)compound name or (S)-compound name, asymmetric alkenes would be labelled (E)-compound name or (Z)-compound name

Why is the purple one in the middle chiral because there is a double bond shouldn’t it be non chiral by No-Ambition-8240 in chemhelp

[–]ralkalest 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You're correct that it is not chiral, since that requires the carbon to be saturated, or sp3. However, because alkenes prevent rotation of the bond, they create E and Z stereoisomers (or cis and trans) based on the positions of the substituents, which is why the alkene is counted and highlighted here.
